After you reinstalled windows, what did you install and run that is the same as before? Anything? a virus scanner, firewall, recording software, that anti bloat thing, anything?

Also did you change any of the default settings in windows or anything like that?

snow widget
#

no antibloat also turned off antivirus instantly no recording software nothing and never changed any settings at all

lucid plume
#

okay. I am going to type in a bunch of what we already did so that it's all in here and doesn't need to be searched for after this...

While I am doing that, could you download and install GPU-Z and run it before starting up your game.

Once running open up the "sensors" tab and expand the window to fit all the stuff it has in one screen.

Keep it running and start up the game again. When the game crashes, take a screenshot of the GPU-Z window and post it in here.

snow widget
#

Yeah sure I’ll do that

#

U will need to give me a min I deleted the game and I am re-downloading it again to see if that will fix anything probs not and I done the clear cache thing too

  • Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900K, 64gb RAM, Windows 10 Pro, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti
  • Played the game before early last year and uninstalled it. Reinstalled it yesterday and has been crashing while preloading shaders every time.
  • Did all 4 steps of /minidump DM
  • Followed a YT video that suggested using compatibility mode for WIN 8 - Had them disable that.
  • LiAnDrY's tool noted there was no cache folder, but this could be due to it not being able to start.
  • Log file always stops at [app] start creation step Preload
  • some instances of [graphics] Failed to allocate download buffer memory. seen in some, but not all of logs.
  • Other than some Opera tabs, nothing seems to be eating up resources.
  • LiAnDrY's tool successfully reinstalled the latest version of Vulkan
  • Disabled an integrated GPU, did not have an effect on the crash or change the log.
  • uninstalled the game, cleared download cache and reinstalled - no effect.
  • Rolled back to GPU driver 566.14 - no effect
  • Was using windows debloater. Believed it may have damaged their windows install, and reinstalled their windows. - No effect

#

gonna run it now see what happens

lucid plume
#

that last one was after the crash?

snow widget
#

yep

#

there both after crash

lucid plume
#

Okay nothing is standing out in there...

#

You have two drives correct?

snow widget
#

yeah iv just rein stalled liandrys fix also

#

yeah want me to install on my hdd

lucid plume
#

no

snow widget
#

okay

lucid plume
#

Are either of them close to full though?

snow widget
#

full reinstall so both empty

#

have some essential programs thats all

lucid plume
#

Okay - I am going to see if I can't get some outside (or inside) input on this issue.

snow widget
#

okay yeah no worries

cyan sinew
#

Hey there, could you please check the crash dump folder? Should be here: ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Enshrouded\crash_dumps
Just .zip the folder which was created when you had the crash and send it here please

lucid plume
snow widget
#

oh sorry yeah ill do that

snow widget
#

@lucid plume @cyan sinew

lucid plume
#

I will leave this up to Kall. Though I am looking through the information, .dmp files are beyond my current knowledge.

cyan sinew
#

thank you very much

Though while he does that you might want to run a memory test. MemTest86 is a good program for that and there is a free version, and a bit better than the windows diagnostic at finding issues with memory: https://www.memtest86.com/

#

It would, at least, rule it out as a cause.

snow widget
#

Yeah sure

#

Sorry I’ve never used this before how do I use it

cyan sinew
#

I think there is no need to try it out for now, we're checking the crash on our end

snow widget
#

okay no worries

cyan sinew
#

right

cyan sinew
# snow widget okay no worries

two questions

  1. did you do Steam's "Check Installation files" already? Sorry if you did, I might be catching up still. If you haven't, please try it.
  2. If you have and it didn't work, go to the folder here: ...\Steam\steamapps\shadercache\1203620 and just nuke its contents out of orbit, please. Delete everything there.
snow widget
#

im not sure ill try this

cyan sinew
#

And then run the game

snow widget
#

by step 1 u mean the check integrity of game files yes?

cyan sinew
#

Er, yeah

snow widget
#

okay yeah iv already done both of these before but ive done them both again for u

cyan sinew
#

and it still crashes on startup?

snow widget
#

yup

#

u need my crash dump or anything?

cyan sinew
#

Doesn't hurt

#

In the meantime, I'll come back to you in a jiffy. I'm relaying the info to the devs

snow widget
cyan sinew
#

This is just the Enshrouded.log. May I ask to visit the crash dump folder I sent you last time? And just paste here the latest folder that appeared

snow widget
#

sure

cyan sinew
#

or do the whole thing like last time, I can separate the last culprit

snow widget
#

like this yea

cyan sinew
#

yeah looks good

#

allright

#

one more shot at this

#

sorry that you are being our test subject

snow widget
#

all good

#

i just wanna play so im happy being ur test

#

at this point im invested lol

cyan sinew
#

This is an easy one.
Within your Enshrouded folder ( ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Enshrouded ) there is a file called nvngx_dlss.dll .
Can you please add a " _" at the end of it, so it looks like this? nvngx_dlss.dll_

#

And run the game again

snow widget
#

crash

cyan sinew
#

Please Enshrouded.log and CrashDump again

#

Thank you

#

faster than me

#

This will sound rude but I need to be 100% sure - did you really change the file name of the "nvngx_dlss.dll"? Could you please show me a screenshot, if possible?

snow widget
#

yeah sure

cyan sinew
#

allrigth, then it didn't do what we wanted it to do.
Can you please send me your enshrouded_local.json file, please?

#

we are going to write something in it to force it to do the thing we wanted it to do

snow widget
#

not in here

#

i tried this before couldnt find the file either was trying to reset settings thinking that was maybe an issue

cyan sinew
#

It's in your Save folder. Do you have a save folder in here? C:\Users\<YourID>\Saved Games\Enshrouded

snow widget
#

oh yeah i shoul do ill go get it

#

apparently its empty

lucid plume
snow widget
#

not in either of my drives

cyan sinew
#

Where do you have the Steam folder?

#

it's not necessarily in program files

snow widget
#

okay yeah ive found it i have it in its own folder

#

what am i doing in this folder

cyan sinew
#

check the folder User Data

#

If you play alone, there should be a single folder there with a string of numbers

#

that is you Steam ID, we don't need to know that. But we do need you to enter this folder

snow widget
#

i have 4

cyan sinew
#

Ok you already went one deeper. Anyway, open that 1203620 folder

#

Is there an "Enshrouded_User" file there?

snow widget
#

nope just rem ote and a remote vdf file

lucid plume
#

Or a remote folder?

snow widget
#

yeah

cyan sinew
#

yeah my bad

#

1203620, then remote

#

enter that remote folder

#

and look for the User file

#

multitasking here, sry

snow widget
#

this is all i got

cyan sinew
#

That's fine, that's completely fine

#

Give me a minute

lucid plume
cyan sinew
#

@lucid plume we're doing a transplant here

#

do you have an enshrouded_user.json in your save folder?

snow widget
#

i dont have anything in my save folder

lucid plume
cyan sinew
#

wait, my bad

lucid plume
cyan sinew
#

sorry, our team is a bit short in size and I am having to deal with a bunch of stuff at the same time

lucid plume
#

No worries. I know you guys are busy and appreciate your time

snow widget
#

idk what im doing now

lucid plume
snow widget
#

am i downloading this ??

lucid plume
cyan sinew
#

no

#

not at all

snow widget
#

okay

cyan sinew
#

Please visit ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Enshrouded once more

#

And look for Enshrouded_local.json - not "_user.json"

snow widget
#

nothing

cyan sinew
snow widget
#

ive never been able to see hte json even before contacting u guys

cyan sinew
#

Well here you go, please take this file, download it and paste it into the folder you showed in that screenshot

snow widget
#

okay

cyan sinew
#

Once you did, please try starting the game again

snow widget
#

crashed -_-

cyan sinew
#

Crashdump once more, please.

#

ah

#

You may have a setting in windows that hides certain files?

lucid plume
#

Maybe removing the (1) from the file name?

snow widget
#

yeah ill try that

cyan sinew
#

If it doesn't work,

snow widget
#

ive turned tht setting off that hides files in file explorer

cyan sinew
#

then please remove the (1) and try again

lucid plume
#

make sure to get the space before the (1) too.

snow widget
#

im going to walk my dog ill be 10 mins type what u need me to do and ill do it when im back sorry

cyan sinew
#

all good, take your time

#

no need to rush

snow widget
#

hey im back

cyan sinew
#

Right, so, here's the thing -
We think that the issue is with your PC trying to initialize DLSS, which is one of the ways you can render stuff in our game.
What we did so far were attempts to make sure the DLSS did NOT start up.

#

just so you know what's going on

lucid plume
snow widget
#

its using fsr rn anyway

cyan sinew
#

I dunno, that's not really under my purview of knowledge. If it can somehow make sure that DLSS is not being used and change it to FSR3, that'd be great

snow widget
cyan sinew
snow widget
#

yep

#

nvidia graphics then i selected enshrouded

cyan sinew
#

Huh

#

Is there a way you can make the Nvidia Graphics app not set stuff up for the game?

snow widget
#

no idea

cyan sinew
#

@lucid plume do you know?

lucid plume
snow widget
#

even in the file u sent me it was set to fsr renderer

lucid plume
#

NVidia App is the new Geforce Experience... they changed some stuff so I'll need to find it

cyan sinew
snow widget
#

ill just delete it

lucid plume
#

no

snow widget
#

its set to fsr in the app too so id

lucid plume
#

lol

#

But yours currently isn't changing it

cyan sinew
#

it isn't

#

?

snow widget
#

what isnt?

lucid plume
#

Gonna double check this to be sure, but I believe if the app were changing it, it would change it to the settings on the right. It would say "Optimized" on it

snow widget
#

yea i get the option to optimize

#

says rn game is not optimized

#

also says currently usuing fsr

#

so apps not changing it

cyan sinew
#

@lucid plume What's the name of this application again?

#

Nvidia Graphics?

lucid plume
lucid plume
snow widget
#

okay its off now

lucid plume
# snow widget okay its off now

I would say, just to be safe, grab that file again from above, make sure to rename it and then put it back in the folder and restart to see if that fixed it

snow widget
#

restart pc or just the game

lucid plume
#

sorry just start the game 😄

snow widget
#

still crashing

lucid plume
snow widget
cyan sinew
#

This will sound very shite and I apologize for it, but we're kind of fresh out of ideas.
You could try deleting the nvngx_dlss.dll_ and see if it works, but at this point I doubt it will.
Another thing you can do is turn off Steam Cloud, but again - I doubt that is the problem.

What I'm guessing here is that there is a conflict between that Nvidia App and our Enshrouded_local.json file, but I need first to sit down and test it.

#

This will require deeper testing and it may take a while.

#

I'm saying this not because we give up and will leave you hanging, but rather to not waste your time any further waiting for our suggestions.
Since this will require some more testing on our side, it can take days or weeks to find out what is happening.

snow widget
#

yup still nothing ..

#

yeah nah i understand that its gonna take time

cyan sinew
#

If you feel like refunding the game, that is absolutely understandable

#

the game should work but isn't, so you should get your money back

snow widget
#

just let me know of any developments and nah i cant anyways as iv got over 7hrs in game

#

kinda want to play the game anyways just cant rn so ill wait i guess for any developments

cyan sinew
#

The 2h-time for refunds only work if you have no strong reason. If the game stops working in your PC you can still appeal to Steam

#

7h is not a lot of time

#

Well, we'll try a few things and I'll try to poke you if we get any advancements
