#Aneirin - Crash

Okay - you stated that it can happen anywhere from a minute or two in, to up to 15 minutes in. Have you been able to play the game at all for more than 15 minutes?
I have. I've had a couple of sessions when it's run fine for an hour or so. The last one did in fact.
After that though, crashed with the same buffer error in the log and then the GPU crash/dump file creation.
Have you noticed any other patterns to when you crash? Like a location, after teleporting or dring battles or anything like that?
I did wonder if it was light/fog based at first.
The only similarities seemed to be that I've had longer successful sessions in the daytime (in-game of course). ๐
Thanks for taking the time to help by the way.
Also You say you have had this issue about a week. Were you able to play the game before without issue, or did you just get the game?
No problem. ๐ Hopefully we can get you running
I ask because NVidia released a new driver right about a week ago. If you were able to play before and not after, it could indicate an issue with the new driver.
I picked it up about a week ago
It was crashing right from the start, so I updated the driver after that.
Okay - good to know. Alright with it crashing from the get-go, lets make sure your vulkan isn't the issue. Go ahead and head over to https://vulkan.lunarg.com/sdk/home and download the most recent Vulkan Runtime for windows. This should be in the left column on the page and should say "runtime installer."
once you get it, install it, restart your computer and then when you get back, enter in the game. Hopefully that will fix it, but if not, let me know.
Will do.
I've had to pop off for a bit. Blooming real life. ๐
I'll update them as soon as I can and report back.
Thanks again for all the time. ๐๐ป
Of course. ๐ Just toss whatever happens in this thread and I'll be keeping an eye on it. ๐
Installed the latest Vulcan Runtime. Crashed a few seconds after login.
And within a few mins of logging in again.
Okay. Same error with nothing really, except a couple of memory allocation errors. It's hinting at a GPU crash, but not giving much to go on. Are you running a lot of programs or do you have a bunch of Browser tabs open?
No browser open. Just the game, steam, discord, Icue and Argus monitor, that controls my loop temps.
I assume the nvidia app is running in the background too, as the overlay is available.
Hmm... I wonder if either of those might be interacting with Vulkan. Can you try disabling them one by one and see if they might be causing the issue?
I've just had an idea. I think the RTX HDR filter is on. Let me give it a bash without that for a sec...
On that note, is Vulcan the only API option for the game?
It is, yeah.
Fair enough. ๐
RTX HDR off. Same issue sadly.
Icue and Nvidia app closed. Crashed on main menu.
Lasted a bit longer, but Argus Monitor off too. Was as night fell in game if that helps.
It might actually. What are your graphics settings at in the game right now?
Resolution scale is native 4k. Tried that at 1440p
Tried settings from medium preset all the way up.
Dlss I've tried off, balanced and quality.
I've kept the fog settings low most of the time as it seemed a little janky.
Okay, so pretty custom. What is "Shadow Quality, Contact Shadows, Indirect Lighting, Reflections and Volumetric Shadow Quality and Point Light Shadows set to?
During the day, the lighting systems is working a lot less than at night, when the lights from builds (player made and game-generated and natural lighting in the game (like red and blue shroud, glowing monsters, etc) come to life. I have never really noticed any huge performance drop from day to night, even with tons of lighting in my base - but it's possible something in your driver, or something with your settings could be causing an issue.
Has it been a trend that the crashes thend to happen at night, or was it just that one time?
I've had more crashes at night than day from memory, but it's definitely happened during both.
I can try and turn those down and see though.
If that doesn't work, I would think about starting to roll back your driver to an older version. The one you are using is relatively new, and each driver tends to have it's own little issues. It's possible this one is having difficulty with something.
Righto. I'll take a look after work.
Thanks again!
Can't say for certain if it'll stay that way, but rolled back to an October driver and managed a session without a crash.
๐ค๐ป It continues.
Just about ready to give up to be honest.
Did you download the update from today to see if that fixed anything? It wasn't your specific crashing issue but it was a crashing issue they repaired.
If it's a steam update, it'll have gone though automatically I would assume.
I know I had to restart the gportal server for an update too though.
If you were playing when they posted the update it wouldn't have until after. I am not sure exactly when they posted it, though.
Let me look through what we have done real quick and your log, and see where we are.
I started about an hour and a half ago.
Had six or seven crashes at various points from then on and popped off.
Think the longest I had was about 10 mins, though one came at the login screen.
Did also delete the shader cache in steam too, but no dice.
Sorry for all of your time I've wasted so far but the way.
Okay the latest log has a lot more of those memory allocation errors, and right before the crash. Also not a waste of time. I choose to be here ๐
Considering how much System RAM you have available, it's possible that your VRAM is being overloaded. Considering it's a 4090 with 24gb of vram, it wouldn't be just the game.
If you download (or already have) GPU-Z (https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-gpu-z/) you can see how much of your VRAM and system ram is being utilized, among other things that could be causing issues like the CPU being overloaded or cooling issues.
I've got a little system monitor screen in the build, so I have been monitoring the temps and usage.
The system is running an open loop the temps have been sitting at about 45ยฐ GPU and 50ยฐ GPU. Haven't seen the utilisation on anything above normal, but I can check again next time.
