Okay making this a thread to keep all the info easy to access. Just to recap the stuff above. You are having one altar in the mountains causing you to float indefinitely when you teleport to it.

#

and it's just happening at this location.

#

Do you have another spare altar spot where you could place another altar nearby and see if it happens there as well?

I have removed the alter in question and put another down, about 100 meters away and it does the same thing. None of the other alters do this. Only at Polaris Falls.

I'm maxed out right now. But both the first one and this one in the same area seem to have about a 20% fail rate.

Out of curiosity, were both altars placed on the ice there? Just trying to figure out what might be the underlying cause of the issue.

#

Also, do you notice any pattern to when it fails? like does it always happen when you teleport from a certain area or anything like that?

slender lichen
#

I carved out a flat spot on the mountain for both locations.

#

No pattern, completly random.

#

I've carved out way more since to see if that helps.

#

I now have a clean 3x3 square waiting to see if it does it again.

#

Just happened again. Should I do a minidump?

Hmm. Not the whole thing. I would say verify your game files on steam and do a system restart to see if it's maybe something there, but you aren't crashing, so most of it wouldn't do much.

slender lichen
#

you mean like reboot the computer?

dire solstice
# slender lichen you mean like reboot the computer?

yeah. Go into steam first and right click on the game in your library list and go to Properties > Installed Files and click on "Verify the integrity of game files" when it's complete, then restart your computer.

Doubt this is related, but sometimes when I open the game is says my settings are bad and asks me to reset them. Only thing I have to change after the reset is the mouse sensitivity settings.

validated, going for a reboot.

If it's still happening after, can you do me a favor and show me a screenshot that shows where, approximately, your altar is located - maybe one of it up close on the map and one showing the altar an the surrounding area. I am gonna try and reproduce it in my world.

I've loaded the game a bunch of times and the only time it fails like that is when my VPN is turned on. VPN off, unable to replicate. Still only that one alter produced this issue.

If you are playing local, nothing in your VPN should be affecting anything in a solo game. The only thing that would go out is a cloud save if you have it on, which shouldn't affect your gameplay... At least not something so very specific as one altar location

#

But you have never had it happen when you turned your VPN off?

slender lichen
#

Correct.

#

I just turned it back on and it failed on the first load.

dire solstice
#

okay... THAT is an odd one. I can only think that maybe something is happening when you load that area that, for whatever reason, is being sent out across the VPN. It might be somewhere in your VPN settings - but the issue is so specific, it's weird.

#

And honestly, I don't know enough about VPN's to be able to say for sure what could be causing it.

#

The only thing I know about them (that may be relevant) is that you can set your location - and maybe your steam location and the VPN locations are too far away... or something?

slender lichen
#

Its possible that some network folder are not accessible when the VPN is turned on. I find it odd thats the loading issue is random and only this location.

#

For now, I'll just make sure vpn is turned off for now.

I'll do that, I appreciate your time.
