#DieOrBeDead - Crashing

Alright. do you notice any pattern to when you crash - anything you are doing in the game, or within a certain time period?
Ok so I've been playing the game co op for a couple weeks with 1 other person. Everything was fine with no crashes. But after the last update a couple days ago, it started crashing every time we go to the snow area, after a couple minutes. On both of our PCs with very different specs (mine is sorta high end specs)
It also sometimes crashes randomly outside of the snow area (in base in the first area)
but usually runs for a lot longer before crashing
but yes, only after latest update
You are talking the large update or the patch/hotfixes yesterday?
Also are you the host or them?
Hotfixes yesterday. Crashes started after first hotfix but wasn't fixed after second hotfix
I am host
Okay - just looking through your log, I am seeing quite a lot of the [graphics] Failed to allocate download buffer memory. errors. This suggests that it might be a case of your VRAM or RAM getting all used up.
I am seeing you have quite a bit of available RAM when you start the game, so unless you are starting up a lot of programs once you start the game, I would look at the VRAM as a possible issue.
To be sure, you can get a free copy of GPU-Z or check your GPU's monitoring software while playing to see if this is the case. If it is, you will probably have to close down any graphically demanding software other than the game, including browser tabs or any videos you might be watching or streaming.
Video capturing and editing software can also use up a lot of VRAM as well.
GPU has 10GB of VRAM though, and PC has 32GB
Will try close videos and stuff though
But also just wondering what changed after the patch that could have started it
Not entirely sure. I can only go off of what I see in the log. and there are a LOT of those errors in there.
Keep that up and watch it while you play. Looks for spikes or something capping out when you crash.
what I noticed is common between mine and friend's pc is this, always just when it crashes:
could be some bug?
That I am not sure of. Most of the stuff in the log mentions assets and has codes that only the devs would understand. Best I can say is "it could be." or it could be an issue with packet loss or one of many other problems.
Okay, I noticed after the patch a lot of people are complaining about the same issue suddenly (I looked under discusstion on steam patch notes latest hotfix) so hopefully the devs are aware
Seems it's a new issue so the previous workarounds arent working
There are a lot of crashes after almost every game update. Not to say that some are not caused by issues in the update, but most are due to corruptions in the download or installation, or in shaders that are recompiled after - or in problems with certain drivers or older versions of vulkan clashing with something in the new update.
Rarely are any of them related to each other.
That's not saying this is, but if it isn't, then it's not something that can be fixed by a hotfix.
Did you run LiAnDrY's Enshrouded toolfix when you did the steps from /minidump?
Yeah ran that. Game in general feels smoother but still crashes
if so can you drop the log for that in here as well?
Seems to get higher fps
okay nothing too crazy in there. It cleared your caches which is good, and your vulkan runtime does appear to be up to date.
Did you also do the DDU to reinstall the latest driver?
I noticed CUB only mentioned steps 1-3.
No didn't try that, but that uninstalls the nvidia driver?
DDU will completely remove the NVidia driver and then reinstall a new version. It just makes sure that the driver was downloaded and installed correctly, and can take care of issues where there might be a corruption in the driver.
It's still the NVidia driver though. There should be a link to an instruction video on how to use it included in the DM.
were you able to catch a crash with the monitoring software?
No didn't try now, its 3am here so will try tomorrow
okay. And yeah you can try to reinstall the game. If you do, though, I would be sure to clear out steams download cache before doing so, in case something happened during download.
Sure thing. Let me know one way or another, and we'll see if we still can't figure it out.
