Okay - so to recap the outside coversation for the thread:

  • The game should not be affecting discord in any way, and I suggested turning off discord overlay.
  • Also suggested downloading GPU-Z to keep an eye on your system resources while running the game to see if anything spikes.
  • This started around the time of the latest patch.

lag in game and discord

meager temple
#

Rad! Just to try and address the above:
The discord overlay is turned off for this game :)

I can download GPU-Z right now and check!

Yes :)

neon tiger
#

Okay - So just to be clear this only happens while connecting to a server. Have you tried multiple servers, or just one specific one?

meager temple
#

Just one specific one :)

#

I can try a random public one now :)

neon tiger
#

Would you please. ๐Ÿ™‚

meager temple
#

Okay, tried a random public one- same issue alas

neon tiger
#

okay - and the discord issue was happening as well? and it does not happen in single player at all?

meager temple
#

The discord issue was happening as well, unfortunately- and I just tried a single player world now, and discord's fine when in a single player world

#

Sorry, that's unclear on my part:
When trying a different multiplayer world, I had the same discord latency

When trying a single player world, I did not :)

neon tiger
#

Okay. So the only thing I can think of that would affect discord and your game is if, somehow, your data is getting bottlenecked somewhere. Enshrouded does send a lot more data back and forth than games like Wow and Elden-Ring.

#

A speed test might give you some information if the speed isn't being throttled by your ISP (some ISP's let speed tests through while still throttling streaming and games)

#

If your system itself isn't having issues with running the game, or spiking or peaking when running the game (check in multiplayer too), I would check the speed to see if anything obvious pops up - after that I would probably power cycle your router/moden just to be safe.

meager temple
#

So, okay, interesting thing to note- enshrouded appears to be running my GPU up to 98 percent or so- but I have an RTX 4060

#

I don't think it should be doing that

#

It also doesn't seem to be doing that for people I know who have less intense GPUs

neon tiger
#

full use of a GPU running a game isn't abnormal.

meager temple
#

Do you think that this might be related in any way to the Discord troubles?

#

I'm sorry; I'm kiiinda fumbling in the dark here LOL

neon tiger
#

probably not. My GPU runs at close to 100% while the game is up too. It's not abnormal, it just means it's being fully utilized.

meager temple
#

Iiiinteresting- okay, just for funsies, imma try an uninstall and reinstall

#

Gimme a minute or two here :)

neon tiger
#

As I said, the game doesn't directly impact discord in any way, and discord lagging is usually due to connection issues, not GPU issues

meager temple
#

See, that's odd, because I'm already at roughly 3 gigs downloaded

#

So I can't imagine it's the internet no?

#

Sorry, 5 gigs

neon tiger
#

what is the upload?

meager temple
#

this is what I've got right now while downloading enshrouded

#

this is also what it roughly was a week ago so far as I know when it was working fine

neon tiger
#

Well let's see what reinstalling does. I can't imagine anything in the game affecting discord though. Only if your system or network resources were being jammed up somehow. I would also suggest restarting your computer.

meager temple
#

No dice, unfortunately- it was better for about 10-15 seconds and then choked up again

neon tiger
#

Also you said you have an RTX 4060, what is your CPU and how much ram do you have?

meager temple
#

It'd be really weird if it were my system specs because this was working fine a week ago

neon tiger
#

There were changes made to the game a week ago that also caused people with specs below minimum to start crashing where they were able to play before because of more stuff being added to the game. While I don't think those two are related, as the game develops it does get bigger and requires more from the system.

#

I am seeing that you only have 16g of ram. What does it say in GPU-Z under "System memory used" when you are having the issues?

meager temple
#

There we go!

#

Sorry about that; GPU-Z has its own camera function which apparently overrides the Windows default function LOL

#

Took me a sec to finaegle it :D

neon tiger
#

yeah - it yells at me every time I use the snippit tool xD

#

Okay so this is when you are currently having the issue with both discord and the game?

meager temple
#

Yep! I had Discord and Enshrouded booted up and had just freshly booted GPU-Z

neon tiger
#

okay - it's using quite a bit of your RAM but not all of it. It's leaving enough that there shouldn't be issues - at least with ram being the cause.

little sequoia
#

Same issue i'm having for sure. Just to add, I am on a 4070, 32gb ram

meager temple
#

Weeeeird O.o

neon tiger
#

So we have teamspeak, disord and game involvement then.

little sequoia
#

Just had a friend join my server and seems to be fine, but can't join his.

edit: I lied, server was super laggy when he joined me.

neon tiger
#

Can you both do me a favor and right-click on your windows taskbar and bring up Task Manager - while you are having the issue - and click on "ethernet" and take a screenshot, and also take a screenshot once you have closed the game?

meager temple
#

Can do- one sec :)

#

I used MS Paint to remove some info so I don't doxx myself LMAO

neon tiger
# meager temple

The amount of data being sent and recieved appears to be normal.

#

HOWEVER

#

You are on a wifi - Are you able to connect pysically to the network and tell me if the issue persists?

meager temple
#

I don't think I have an ethernet cable handy unfortunately- let me see

quartz bridge
#

that about the only thing I can think of at this point. Try a wired connection... if that is ok... you may have too much stuff on your wifi setup and it could be causing delays when a lot is going on... best I can think of

meager temple
#

Okay, found one- no dice; even plugged into the rotuer directly, I've got the same problem

#

*router

quartz bridge
#

damn

meager temple
#

okay, so this is interesting

neon tiger
little sequoia
#

I restarted my router and now these are shwoing - it was not showing usage before I restarted router though...

meager temple
#

turning on the 'limit FPS in background' option actually causes discord to behave when the game is minimized

#

how can i cap my frames when the game is in the foreground

little sequoia
#

That is without the game open. So I have something going on I believe unrelated to Enshrouded...

meager temple
#

oh oop hm maybe not

quartz bridge
#

you guys using nvidia broadcast or something? anything that uses RT cores gets destroyed when in a high usage game, I have seen

neon tiger
#

well send

meager temple
#

i'm not broadcasting anything at the moment so far as I'm aware

quartz bridge
#

not for broadcasting... for noise reduction. some of the times I have seen the noise filter software go crazy.

little sequoia
quartz bridge
#

there are certain games, that when I play them with voice chat on, and have noise reduction on, all the sudden my friends and I start sounding like robots when things go crazy in the game.

neon tiger
quartz bridge
#

usually pinned down to that software, cause it's also trying to use features of the video card to do the noise reduction

meager temple
#

well, it's odd- i'm not really doing much in the game; just jumping around in a fairly humble village base

#

and i'm seeing the discord like latency broadcast symbol jumping around from green to red

little sequoia
meager temple
#

i'm all up to date except for a windows defender update

neon tiger
meager temple
#

i just grabbed it now

neon tiger
#

I think we might have two separate issue with a similar symptom here.

meager temple
#

possibly!

quartz bridge
#

yeah that one is weird...

neon tiger
#

With @little sequoia - something is eating up his bandwidth something terrible.

little sequoia
#

I am fixed now. Not really sure what I did other than restart router, and let whatever that download was finish

neon tiger
little sequoia
#

I ran malwarebytes and it came back clean.

#

Yep, loaded in normally and no lag on voice or anything.

neon tiger
neon tiger
#

Network usage looks good - did I see you say connecting via ethernet did not fix the issue?

little sequoia
#

Yeah, agreed. I don't torrent or anything so i'm not sure... Thanks y'all

meager temple
neon tiger
#

Also - are you the only one currently using your internet?

meager temple
#

One other person's using it, but not for anything too intense- especially given the up/down speed

#

I tried restarting the router last time, but no dice

#

Er, last time I had this issue

neon tiger
#

have you had periods of time where this doesn't happen?

meager temple
#

Not in the last two sessions, unfortunately

neon tiger
#

but since it started a week or so ago?

meager temple
#

Correct, yeah

neon tiger
#

Sorry - I phrased that weird, ๐Ÿคฃ So you have had periods since the update where it works normally?

meager temple
#

Nope!

neon tiger
#

Have you ever had the issue before the update?

meager temple
#

Never!

neon tiger
# meager temple Never!

Yeah this one is beyond me. it's acting just like there is bog in your network or on your system somewhere, but I can't seem to find out where on your system. The only thing I can think of is the other systems and devices on your network might be bogging it down with something.
