Unfortunately, there is no easy way to fix it. The only in-game way to get the NPC would be indeed to remove the flame altar and allow the area to reset.

I got massive problems to tame the cat in the tower. It's so narrow that she always notice me and sometimes the hearts delete themselves after I cuddled her. Any solution? Was someone successful? I tried for 2 hours now 😄

thats truly sad. iv spent about 450 hours into building there. its definitely disheartening.

ATTENTION anyone whos still watching this chat. I moved 2 flame alters around to save parts of my base so i could only reset the single building that needed to be reset! which allowed me to spend maybe 30 minutes worth of rebuilding instead of having to start over. somewhere else

yes we did that too but you can't remove the NPC that is on top when you have completed the quest, you have the problem when you want to rebuild something that the skeleton and the rest don't go away
