#CUB's lore rabbit hole conspiracy

How come you wake up as the Flameborn, the one chosen hero, as the flame says, but there are other vessels in the temple? And they're empty?
what about when other players join?
To me, the answer is clear:
You're not the Flameborn, you're A Flameborn
There are others like you
There have been others like you
There have been others like you for quite a long time
What you see out there, these half decayed ruins, these tents, all that stuff that indicates that life is still somehow going on? That's their traces
Embervale is a palimpsest built in layers of failed attempts at combating the Shroud
the Ancient Flame tells you just what you need to hear to get started on the fight, and nothing else
whether it is because it is manipulating you for its own purposes or just for other reasons such as technical limitations, I know not
The point is other Flameborns have tried and failed to fight the Shroud before you
and whenever the current Flameborn fails, the temple spits out another candidate, ready to try again
but the Vukahs? the Vukahs aren't in the Temple. They're not Flameborn.
They've been there, they remember
most of all, they remember the power of these incredible humans who were hostile to them
so they're hostile to you, in turn. Because you carry the stigma of all who came before you
if I could have my way I would rework the Vukah language/culture skills into a quest line, that would be about accomplishing tasks and feats for the Vukahs to atone for other Flameborns' past sins
would be more compelling than something you unlock with a skill point
How do the NPCs from the lore and the one's you rescue come into play?
to me they're also magical beings, but of a different kind. They're supporting characters and when the last altar's flame dies out, as a protection measure, they get whisked back to their sanctuaries and reset until they get delivered again, as a protective measure against the Shroud
also from a pure game development perspective this would allow us a lot more freedom without needing to conform to a single timeline of events, which will probably end up a headache
So does the hypothesis stay the same for the scavengers?
But are we the Flameborn that is destined to win, or will we fail as all others before us.
How does future townsfolk comes into play with this.
Why do we meet some "named" bosses that seem to be persons that get mentioned by nearby lorenotes.
Is the Shroud moving, abandoning regions which in return begin to prosper back again - and what are These small patches of Shroud that happen to appear everywhere. They seem to be meteors that crashed down or as if a flying creature has left them there in the battle/fact of purging humanity from the surface.
Also, why did some other Flameborn not defeat those "Guys whose names we know already."
I think your first question is what makes it interesting, right?
as for named bosses, it's pretty easy to imagine there would be other taking up the mantle of the defeated boss in the case of the scavengers... or something more sinister for the fell
I would agree that we are certainly not the first and only flameborn.
decay exists as an extant form of life and all that
@sweet ferry get in here and read all that
I could quite well imagine tha the Vukah were more 'feral' when the humans and ancients were around, but since they've been gone and the continued flameborn are trying to 'beat' the shroud, that the Vukah are in the process of evolving to become the dominant species. in place of those before.
But why would these "Bosses" that take on the mantle of their prior evil take also the loot from them or have them carried around. As a trophy?
Discord is a pita on my tablet and thread was invisible until now.
It has some ui that is neither desktop or mobile
I like that theory! ^^
Id envision we get an npc, like the smith and bard and such,
But that is a vukah shaman that learnt the human language
That npc could unlock quests towards the vukah
I think we may not be the first Flameborn. We're the one that does work against the Shroud.
Aswell as items pertaining to getting involved with the vukah tribes
I can see the shroud not being beaten.
I think Flameborn before us were too weak/got defeated easily. It was needed one who could both: Fight and survive the Shroud.
a Vukah sweater made of shed hair from the entire tribe, with a +X time in the Shroud bonus
Lol things like that, or horns to get the attention of the vukahs
The beastmastee skill could be remade to not affect vukahs to give other ways via the vukah npc
But while I would say, it would be interesting to have Vukah as a side faction, I think first they need to be more fleshed out.
They seem to have pilgered from one part of the map to the other, starting at the big cave in Nomad Highlands where we find the beewhistle
Vukah shaman npc could have a quest to build a thing to let us understand the vukahs ^^
They dont pillage
All they have is their own bones and pelts
But the ones in Nomad are certainly feral, while the ones in Blackmire seem to start a "culture".
Its the scavs that pillage
'Feral' they act the same, they just dont roam in the mire only
You misreaded If you mean my text. I said they pilgered - or in other words, wandered around
They could be explorers or separate settlers in caves
Ur german to english translation is a bit wonky sometimes, but its oki ^^
You mean pilgrimage then
Si
Anyway, one lorenotes mentioned they "started in caves in the Nomand Highlands", there they may originated from
A pilgrimage is usually a specific travel/path with some ceremony to it
Aren't vukahs pretty much in all bioms?
They have spots in most of them ^^
The miremud made it seem like they have a more permanent home too tho
They're present in all four biomes currently
I know where my children are ^^
They definitely look more civilised there
Same, cave or treehouse.
But i dont think keen yet knows where to go with it ^^ can come together in time.
Just they took the chance to add more vukah homestuffs
Love their nest beds โค๏ธ
I could ofc reveal all as their mum but i dont want to pressure keen as they try to figure it out ๐๐คญ
I think they started out in caves and thought the Blackmire is more inhabitable.
Thus they copied the look of "Strange hooman buildings" they found all around Springland etc.
But originated I think (and remember quite well) they were from caves in the more eastern parts
Their take.
My mace.
I mean... hoomans made homes in caves before they built their own ๐
Embervalians is mebbe not like earth?
They might not have the same history, or neandhertals
I think hoomans lived naked in poop, then they saw glorious vukahs and tried imitate their furs with 'clothes' ^^
Remind me that I need to explosive-away another Vukah Village.
Time will tell.
Or the guy who writes the lore
I think it may even be both. Somewhat
I would imagine both are native but as is the usual, one becomes dominant over the other.
Humans and Vukah both existet as tribes and had rivalry to begin with.
But the Ancients had to choose one of these tribes to help them grow.
I definitely see the Ancients as beings from outwhere who interfered.
So...
Ancients to be blamed for all.
Humans just were Humans who digged out the Shroud.
Embervale after cubs lore ist just Darksouls
Well.
I got a solution.
CUB will make us have an interview with the lores guy.
A Lore QA if you will so.
