I always tried to parry two rocks but he'd fly off before the second reached him
yeah its sorta lucky if the placement is right
i'd try to cheeze it but im not sure if i can even kill it in the time i have frost resistance
you can. use a food buff, use a bow. spend a few points into Ranger. easy mode
What arrows were you using? I feel like my bow does buns damage
My GF is full ranger so maybe she can help lol. My eternal fireball was doing like 300 a hit... not enough
Shock spells also stun π
I use Steel arrows and the frost arrow. mostly frost, which has crap damage, but I can spam the hell out of it.
damn ill give it a try next time we play
I also don't stand on the ring island π thats asking for death
if you're close enough for it to hit, and alive π
I used Eternal Chain Lightning and maxed out my mana regen - just had to get relatively close to cast it.
yeah i know the scum spot
There's a safe spot?
use it, you may as well while it's there
yes
yeah there's a nearby cliff you can stand on. It's like max range for a fireball haha
Well, I now feel pretty dumb for using 20+ health pots and flying around while waiting for mana regen
you wouldnt be the first
if worst comes to worst, you can always turn down the game difficulty, just for that one fight.
no one will know π
Yeah this fight is actually blowing my mind
Well I just attempted the dragon at level 40 on relaxed mode. I barely did any damage to him but I stunned him then he got stuck in the ground and I just spammed with my sword
That's intentional. You do all of your damage whilst its stunned, you want to minimize the time you spend parrying the fell fire meteors and fill its stun meter with stun arrows or shock spells.
this probably has been asked before but I cant seem to find it using search, how come when I invest in nodes that give +piercing damage bonus in the skill tree it doesnt show up in the character sheet? the character sheet still hows +0% to piercing in damage tab
same goes but dex and dagger damage bonus, still shows as +0% dagger dmg even when you invest in the dex nodes
you mean this one? This is a mystery for me too.
Other things also don't show up in character sheet, like the stamina debuff deductions from Wet Dog and Soaked Dog.
Wait, so he's supposed to stay down once you stun him once to bring him down? I used stun arrows, brought him down then he just stayed there while I swung my sword. Maybe my sword kept filling his stun meter?
Normally it has a 10s timer iirc. You might have gotten lucky and it bugged out
Yeah I thought it had!
You stun it, attack it for a bit and then it will get up. You'll have to restun it to deal damage. When its not stunned it takes like 99% reduced damage so you want to stun it as quickly as you can.
The 10 seconds is what is supposed to happen. I have killed him on two separate worlds. The second one, he glitched and stayed down until I killed him. It can definitely happen.
And it took like a million sword swings π€£
That's what my wife did! She plays warrior while I go ranger.
I'm very curious to see someone do some testing with max gear to figure out what is really the "best" class. Could do like an "on paper test" with test dummies and known swing speeds but then also some time to kill tests on certain enemies
I mean it can vary so much on wolrd settings, group size, priorities (total power vs least amount of resources needed to farm) etc.
i imagine the implication is default health. And it's solely a test of Power. Obviously playstyle and other factors will dictate if you prefer one over another, but I'm interested in dps mostly. I feel like when players ask for the "best" build that's what they mean. What kills stuff the fastest.
Fair enough i guess. I tune things up whenever the enemies basically become something i dont interact with otherwise im just removing gameplay.
Getting punched into a wall by some brute while haymkering back into a crowd on stun timings is so fun.
yeah for sure, there's a lot to be said about "fun factor"
like that's why archer seems neat, the double jump bee sting stuff is a novel gameplay compared to just left click spam
My buddy just flips all over the place hovering while i go rolling into the crowd.
Being a tanky character feels alot better than past patches, but requires some real red dedication to keep health upnon curve
And weirdly crit obsessed bc of battle heal
Does make it fun picking between precise and heal weapons tho
yeah battle heal feels really good. I was playing 2h up until like lvl 20-ish and switched to mage. Right out of the gate if felt WAY worse than 2h. It's feeling better now but idk how 2h would compare at this level of gear. Haven't messed with archer much yet, but that's what my GF plays. Part of the reason i'd like to see some testing haha
Doing sword and board w/ greatsword as tank rn and its a blast
Swapping between 4 weapons on my bar makes moment to moment on boosted survival fun in fights
Hope greatsword retains its "get off me" usage when they touch it up. Super helpful to be able to sorta stunt an enemy big lad making for your face
Sword and Board tank / warrior build is best "easy mode combat" build.
Staff is probably king of AoE damage.
Bow is probably the best DPS build, hands down.
And a bow / daggers build is probably the most versatile.
Playing on slightly tweaked survival as melee my only gripe is while elite type enemies feel fine, more like grunt tier mobs i would like perhaps a bit scarier to tanky bois while also allies not getting sent to the shadowrealm by a stray scavanger getting at them
But feels like combat and the skill tree need a slightly expansive pass (especially abilities mirroring the "active" abilities given on the red trees to the green ones) to have enough levers to pull to give a more diverse threat spread to diverse player groups.
Aggro tables would be especially helpfulnin group play, like certain enemies opting to gun for people casting spells or certain stat lines over others and inverse for enemies that wanna bash down melees or cc them
Hey all - starting to get into late-game but my friend and I are still dying several times every time we encounter the scavenger matron; the fight usually goes well until she starts summoning dogs several times in a row and we get swarmed by 8 or 9 of them - backing off either resets the fight or gets her to summon even more
Other discussions I've seen only really mention how to deal with her poison - does anyone have tips for dealing with the summons? They're doing 300+ damage per lunge and blocking doesn't seem to work half the time
What is your physical protection at?
oof not very high, 189
i have the level 33 magic armor set
Try replacing the chest armor or leg armor (or both) with a warrior piece.
If you find you are unable to avoid being in melee range, you may also want to put a few points into Tank skills for the damage resistance
fair, thanks
but also i feel like that might only get me from getting 3-shot to 4-shot :x
I would probably recommend the Mountain's Shadow chest piece for the high HP, or the Brazen Bull or Mountain's shadow legs
If you're getting 3-shot currently, the physical armor increase should already help, and then you're also adding a bunch of hp. So Maybe from 3-shot to 5-6 shot
The end game armors are all oogley. Blech.
that makes sense
do you have any recommendations on avoiding the dog attacks in the first place? sidestepping one or two is doable but i can't seem to avoid damage when several attack different times
I'm not sure there's an easy method for fighting multiple enemies other than trying to keep track of where they are. In combat I usually zoom my camera out. Better yet, especially if you have the Terror skill, starting combat from far away you can usually stun them enough before they can run to you.
Mages don't have fast up-close crowd stun of warriors or the ability to hover above them like rangers, so its usually melting asap with magic damage or outhealing
Long distance stun tho - almost broken for mages
Dang I've definitely been sleeping on the stave in that case - I always found the charge time too unwieldy but I guess that doesn't matter when they're all stunned haha
Thanks for the help!
Quick charge and something with AOE, like Eternal Fireball can keep a group stunned on and off. The long range on some spells like fireball also means you can attack from a roof or a ledge.
If you stick with wand you'll probably want some armor and tank skills though. But also, by endgame you can spec into tank, wand, staff with quite a few skill points left over.
Anyone know if "enhancements" on, e.g. staffs/bows (while equipped) also apply to other equipped weapons? I have the Violet Storm staff but wondering if the Opportunistic/Ruthless enhancements apply to my wand, because that'd be fun with the Gem of Currents
Dodge backwards, then fly back in. Evade Attack is super awesome for this
ooh i hadn't thought of evade attack
will try that, thanks - i initially gave up on dodging backwards because a second dog behind them would lunge right after
Daggers need an aoe ability badly
Crash Down and Shockwave work fine for my rare aoe needs. β₯οΈβ₯οΈ
But I agree it would be nice to stay in the green perks to get such effects.
I really want to have more enhanced unarmed and bomb-based skills if they ever work on Trickster
I'm imagining a build that really hybrids between Green and Blue skills. Unarmed damage boosts, explosive damage boosts, increased fire resistance, increased fire damage, maybe magic glyphs on the ground like Baldur's gate
Some kind of blade dance or flurry would be cool. I meant that daggers need more of an identity with combat skills dedicated to it
I talked with Toast about identity and rogue-ifying dagger trees a while back, so here's hoping! A general combat renovation is apparently in the works.
Yeah they have had a dedicated combat team hired I think since October as they know combat is a major feedback for a long time. Now that they have building down
Basically, Dodge to empty or open areas best you can.
You can also do a double jump and ground slam if you time it right.
Either way, idea is to not be there when the lunge lands, while also not dodging directly into a claw to the face.
What weapon?
Am I crazy, or in hard mode, are you forced to build warrior armor even thought you're playing mage? I'm getting clapped left and right. Anything that's on the same level as me that has a charge attack will one shot me. Does it get better with better gear and more skill points?
forced no. Easier with some warrior armor, yes, especially if you don't have enough skill points, aren't kiting enough, or aren't stunning from max range.
Stunning?
Terror skill + crit + aoe spells = pretty reliable stun on single target and groups
Ah. I'm assuming terror skill comes from the Hollow Halls guy?
No, it's partway down the magic skills on the trickster side
Oh, I didn't even notice that. Dang, big sad that double jump and to a lesser degree dessert stomach feel mandatory. They eat up so many skill points.
But also, in general if you're mostly solo-ing or you aren't playing with someone who is a decent melee, sooner or later you're going to get hit up close and will want some hybrid. Bow primary or magic primary especially on harder difficulties becomes more manageable if you pick up some tank skills and physical resistance for survivability.
Yeah there's some tough choices until you get enough points, but there's 184 skill points total so it'll get easier to grab many things later game.
Got rid of dessert stomach and the chain of skills to get there. Grabbed terror, shiny plates, and heavy plates. Hopefully now I can actually survive long enough to heal if I get caught out
But also, mage does tend to have a tougher time early-mid game right now. Mage used to be completely OP, so it was nerfed a bit. Mid-late game it's still as strong or stronger in some ways but a lot of mage players will go hybrid in the first half and then respec after getting enough points.
Playing a Mage with Mage armor and no non-blue dots and no melee weapons has realllllly upped my parry and dodge game lol.
Keli! How far is your mage now?
Just hit 12 last night, all in a new world, no goodies from my other world hehe. It's hard work, but honest. π
Yes. I've done the highest difficulty on bow only, dagger only, mage only, 1h and 2h only. Always wore the armor for that class, you just need to keep your distance better and stun them or just kite.
Is it just me or is it really weird that we canβt draw a bow back longer for increased damage??
It should be 1. Aim bow and click left once for quick shot
- Aim bow and hold left to increase draw for higher damage shot
It's never been like that, always been to shoot it further
I don't think it needs to be more complex than that. Especially with the eternal arrow and special arrows.
How would you pulling back the bow string further make an explosive deal more damage lol
I mean could just be broken up into quick shot and long/power shot.
I doubt we'll see any substantial changes like you're asking for ranged combat.
Especially being so close to 1.0 and there already needing a complete rebuild of combat and its systems, but who knows
Could be something they are already implementing with the rebuild of combat but time will tell. Regardless these devs never disappoint
They disappoint me everyday they don't let me drown my NPCs
if you can spare some seconds: any thoughts on this skill planner for a main 2h warrior?
Insane to skip the perk to reduce rain screwing you over imo but i play on survival + and it just never seems to stop raining so maybe im biased
I play without rain
Oh lmao
If I had to, what would you skip in order to get the rain perk?
The more i yap here the more i realize people play this game very different haha
The best part of Enshrouded IMO; gives us more fun stories to tell each other and makes it far more accessible.
Id drop out of the ranger tree, but i also play ina a group with archer doing alot of the stuff that would be annoying so
I mean my build was at 181/184, so I could neglect some backstab dmg and get rain:
Just seems weird to my brain to remove a mechanic when a branch of the skill tree basically does that
ah no, I also miss one more node to do that. me dumb.
Im also a certified updraft hater π
i mean the ranger node gives a lot incl crit chance which is huge on battle heal builds
Idk you are specced into merciless but lacking the heal orbs
So just seems a bit of a weird dichotomy to state
Plus any hp gained along the way increasing both orb
And battle heal procs
what's survival+? is the rain effect more harsh then?
Its just survival which already has the frequent inclement weather setting + we added more enemies and buffed them a bit and made bosses beefier
Cant recall what else we changed off hand
barely using merciless, maybe I should spec out of it
The only time i lole merciless is with the heal orb perk
I mean I'd get the orbs just because I would path to the rain nodes. not for the orbs themselves
I guess it just made merciless suddenly a healing move for me than a damage one
Since i was trying less crit priority and making do with healing weps or precise to enable 20% ish crit
But there is so many enemies on screen constantly than anymore crit for heals seems overkill
there is no overkill if it trivalizes your sustain π
Yeah but at a certain point it already is with a healing weapon just 5% alone can be 100+ healing per swing into crowds
We also have the 75% max health so i feel if i deviate from my red loyalty survivability plummets
this + crit heals feels good in midgame
Gimee dat vukah 1h legendary π mid game goat
Jezmina's Apotheosis?
5% dont hit like 10% imo but yeah its a nice lil upgrade
Oh no i mean like
Literally a basic vukah sword
At legendary tier
?
haha, we really seem to play different games π
Its so peak
ye, seems strong π
in the quest for the bees they drop those swords a lot
i got at least one everytime i went there
THAT IS NOT A FLAIL
:flail:
But we do needs flails.
Long flails, short flails, flails with three heads...
Hey all - I've got a situation and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong.
So I'm at level 25 with a 2H Barbarian build. I've tried many techniques to party and even block.
I almost never am able to parry and even blocking is hit or miss. Even watching for the "glow" before an attack. If I switch to 1H + Shield I can consistently Parry and Block.
I don't have this problem with other games I've played that have 2H Parry mechanics..
Is 2H Block/Parry broken is it me?
Are you getting caught while swinging or is this while purely waiting
Both -
Interesting
Well at least if it helps with a greatsword it "flinches" enemies so can be used defensively to stymie enemy attacks
Not a solution but a bandaid while you figure this out
I've seen where I have full Stamina and literally just hold Block and the attack goes through my block... even with low level mobs.
Im using a 2H Axe and 2H Hammer at the moment.
Does Enshrouded not have an "interrupt" for attack? IE - Other games if I'm attacking and hit "block" I can stop my attack in block.
The game has parries, but you have to time it right
Ah wait I misread - you meant to cancel your own attack. I don't think so
Parry imo is misnamed
Since you really are typically bonking enemies at the start of an attack
Rather than its apex
And generally no
Enshrouded so far in my experience is commital
Especially with handers where movement is better than blocking generally
2 handers*
From what I've been able to tell by looking at a lot of resources is that 2H doesn't have "hyper armor", so in the middle of a swing even a tiny hit will interrupt an attack. And I think you confirmed the "commitment" issue Ive read from others. One you start tha animation to swing you are stuck. I've read that a bunch of 2H weapons (above my level) were bugged and weren't providing any parry power at all.
1H is the same, just way faster animations so it doesn't impede you as often or as much.
And Parry works π
thing for me is... with 2hand sword you don't need to parry some stronger enemies, you kinda outrange and keep them in fulltime stagger... the green scavenger dudes for example... a fight with 1 hand sword... with 2 hand sword he can't even hit you...
Man I just stay moving and the psycho cleaver guy can't touch me.
Shield dudes are a bane, as are like sickle-scythes or whatever.
Or just winding up stuck in terrain ducked after a dodge in shroud areas π
1H or 2H you can and likely should learn how to do the pinball wizard thing. Smack a fool then be somewhere else when the counters come.
i hate flails and its design
So clearly everyone else should...
(I used a boffer flail once to take on the Vanguard of a boffer war... the things work π )
Nah flails would be RAD
I picked up terror and thatβs helping a bit. The issue I mostly run into is that most enemies are faster than I can cast, so Iβm relegated to wand gameplay. And I just have not found better wands, stuck with these level 5 and 7 wands. :/
So kiting takes too long, and I run out of stamina. Especially against multiple mobs.
Hit them first. Thereβs nothing stopping you from using the environment to your advantage, get up higher than them or lower. Seems like youβre just wanting to blow everything away and not have to do any critical thinking.
I played some now while there are many people saying two skills should be first prio and now I ask myself there is this one skill ||double jump|| which shouldn't be a skill in the tree tbh. It is just mandatory for everything, I use it to go places frequently and it should just come from a quest during the game, no? I feel like a skill choice that isn't really a choice should be designed differently to a skill tree node.
None of the skills are mandatory, they are easier or harder for your personal preferences. I personally like double jump, and it seems like most players do, but there's some players that have clearly said they don't like using double jump.
No double jump and no up draft. It just makes it too easy to get places you should have to try to get to. Instead people just jump over things.
lol, I feel like I can't live without double jump, updraft, and emergency blink. Must have on all my characters.
Dodge roll attack is about as close as you get to this

And even then its moreso bc you can just do so many movements like roll into strike or roll away into strike
Dodge roll attack based
I am regularly marked as crazy for not using blink or double jump :P
Dodge rollll
It's a crutch, try hard mode and don't grab it one playthrough π
I dont get why updraft is so liked
blink ruins any attempts at sneak attack, dodge roll doesn't!
spindash at your enemies and stab them in the back
You feel faster and more capable, you save time, it's adding to the unique flavor of movement in this game!
Doublejump i get somewhat
updraft is OP and borderline necessary for the game.
if you fall off something, you can glide, updraft, and if done right, get back exactly where you were.
updraft is like... 4 or 5 double jumps high. so I don't need double jump because I can just use updraft.
height is insanely useful/important in a game with a glider :P
I guess
Im the sort of bloke walking around skyrim or using modded travel.
So going like. Around a extra hill for 50 seconds is a ok
"unique flavor of movement" π€£
I gather as i go
if you ever find yourself on a hillside, the updraft can be the thing that saves you from falling all the way down into a shroud pit.
or the thing that makes it so you barely make it to a location you're heading to.
I just spam roll up anything not 90 degrees
You can just go right up those mud ramps
Updraft is not necessary. I have done through mountains without it. Just waiting on a friend to stop being sick, then I'll finish the water zone without it. It's only necessary to people that have gotten used to having it.
I also carry a satchel of grenades
...I am going to have to test that
So when my friends meme at me from not having it i just blow a path
Technically the side
Where the texture cuts out
But yeah
to be fair, I did say "borderline necessary"
I am aware you don't need updraft but it is insanely useful. I do miss being able to fly though
without updraft and some manareg it's a pretty heavy walking simulator tho...
I dont need to dodge enemies when i can headbut them to death
You can still glide... Also, it's an exploration game. You miss lore and things when you're skipping things with double jump and updraft
Early game i mark all the hives lol
We only progress when everyone is online
So sometimes resources get weird
I have like every single night berry marked by hand
We all just have different ways of playing. I prefer to go everywhere and explore everything
you don't have to skip things with updraft :P quite often my updraft is most useful when trying to get to a location. like "up a hill"
I donβt miss anything with double jump and updraft π
whenever I see stuff like this, I think "without double jump it would be half the fun"
To each their own π»
Frustrating but worth it to be able to do the actual puzzle instead of jumping over it
Ill probably do a ranger or mage with my next group that is eyeing the game
And then ill be double jumping or gliding all ovee
But for now im dah mfing wall baby
Yeah, I remember you asking people where some lore was, while doing the wiki :p
I do it aswell. It is just "do I jump for 20sec or 10sec". not like hard to see the way with just one jump
Because it wasnβt in the game, I had to pull it from the extracted info nice try
In fact that lore was actually added because of me. Your welcome.
Not you are, your.
it's not like I can jump up that tower
you mean I can get up there with double jump?
I'm afraid you need to teach me
Yes
sorry, but then I need video proof. it is this:
You don't jump up to it
You fall down from above..
This is what I mean by this community lacks critical thinking skills
yes of course, but that doesnt require double jump xD
You were never meant to reach it WITH double jump
The intended way is to reach it from above
my picture was about ppl saying
"Frustrating but worth it to be able to do the actual puzzle instead of jumping over it"
You asked if it could be done without double jump, it can.
and I replied "it is not like I can skip it and just jump up"
brooo. everything can be done with double jump bc you dont need to allocate the node... π€‘
The double jump civil war
I dont even need to time anything. you use the grapling hook and swing
What's the lore reason that the Flameborn can Double Jump?
There is no war. There's people who are bad at the game and can't or won't take two seconds to solve a puzzle or read an items description.
If you mean me, I never said I don' take the time. I even argued that double jump doesnt do much in this puzzle XD
I can't tell you how many times someone comes into a channel asks XYZ and usually the answer is did you even look for it, or try to find it before coming in here.
Cthuluh Mushroom Zombie magic.
it's actually the opposite, the ancients picked us to be flameborn for our latent ability to double jump, they saw us and saw drak, one of our ancestors did a double jump, and the ancients immediately were like "THIS ONE, THAT'S THE ONE WE WILL LOVE AND CHERISH AND OCCASIONALLY BE RACIST TOWARD"
Thank goodness however, it seems you need a second one.
Oh look, the prophecy came true.
I was moreso just commenting on the opinions of multiple folks having a preference for against not really anyone right or wrong. Just funny to see the variety
Thats him officer
I saw him double jump
He didnt even need to do it
Just did it for fun!
I want triple jump
I played Destiny 1 years ago and even got a taste for quadruple jump
Give the people what they crave
Hunter*
Terraria Wings
I've never been a fan of wings/jetpacks. I like the vertical mobility not a fan of the visual part
clearly we just gotta unlock the glider's angle so we can glide upward
This could be really fun once I finish my ship. Would like to do it on a very different build if possible too. So far I have 1h, 2h, bow/dagger, and wand/staff characters.
Lol I'm boring. I like my boom stick. I'm always a mage.
A glider that can turn corners a little tighter would also be nice. I've had a lot of fun jumping off my ship and gliding a short while then grappling back onto it. But half the time I can't make it.
honestly I wish gliders were different, instead of just blatantly "better"
instead of "faster" glider how about slower glider but it turns sharper? but still has the same decent angle?
Side grades and horizontal progression is hot
Or a mount
Wouldnt coming in here and asking be similar to looking for it or googling it? Different methods with same end results.
I was thinking that last night that it would be cool to have either a ground mount or a flying mount to tame later down the line in future updates, with the mounts requiring a little more skill and finess to acquire, tame and maintain,
This is my current ranger build - is there a way i can get more damage that i am not seeing?
Obviously not for the bow, I wouldnβt want use that build though
I'm not 100% but don't you have to have backstab and sneak attack (center area) to use/take advantage of backstab mastery in survivor tree? And if you don't use explosive arrows then the points in that area are unneeded.
It's called 'updraft';-)
maybe ice damage talents in the wizard tree for ice arrow
Hear me out, to make sneak attack actually viable they need to add a camouflage ability and when you creep up to an enemy thatβs when sneak attack comes in. Who can even use sneak attack currently??
Enemies do have a line of sight you can stay out of using objects and a very particular kind of bush, but it's not universal enough for me to rely on yet. Hopefully this is part of the combat overhaul. There are also several suggestions on Feature Upvote regarding stealth, so let the devs hear your voice by upvoting the ones you dig. β€οΈ π
Absolutely! Iβd love to constantly use sneak attack but feel like we need another stealth ability to complement it to help us get to the enemy. Maybe some kind of stealth blink that makes you appear behind them to do an ambush
It's a good start, and I used it for about 20 levels, but the fact that you can't use it on always-flying mobs or very large mobs (bosses) really took the fun out of it for me.
Exactly
I play with enemy count set to βmanyβ so it makes it really hard if not impossible
Then I presume you've learned quite personally the weakness of Merciless Attack similarly. XD
Yeah unfortunately..
A cool upgrade for merciless attack could be something like you take significantly less damage while doing the animation or you do it quicker and when you stab it makes an impact knocking back enemies that are crowded around you
Backstab works on any attack from behind the enemy. The skills boost the damage.
Enemies have blind spots, too. You cam single pull from groups if the group all has their back to you.
Some are "partied up" and will all react together. Particularly on "miniboss hordes"
And some like to yell OUCH when they get hit and others nearby may hear.
yes i primarily use explosive arrows
Can Greatswords and Mauls have their animation switched? I feel like Greatswords should swing better than 2 handed hammers. I imagine my arm getting dislocated every time I lunge with the greatsword.
No.
Thrusting with a greatsword really isn't that bad
Apparently greatsword animations are slower so everyone just goes for 2H axe
If it was faster an more AoE I'd definitely go for GS tho
It'd be like Guts from Berserk
I'm using the greatsword currently because I really like the Guard of the North sword, but I did like my greataxe's moves more. π
2 hand sword has more crowd control tho, it is way better on hard settings.
Yeah the "AoE" of axes and mauls does not make up for the lack of hitstun, for me anyway
Only for 1 target in front of you. Try doing that in HH.
Axe/Hammer swing animation trumps GS for DPS and CC for the first part of 'CC', "Crowd". You need the attack speed increase passive node though.
Try thrusting a greatsword of that weight in real life and let me know how that works out.
Well the greatswords in Enshrouded are obviously hilariously oversized/overweight compared to real life ones, but the point stands. I can do that lunge with any tool in my shed without dislocating my shoulder lol
Real greatswords weigh 5 to 7 pounds. Go watch some blumineck. π
Yes real greatswords are very light and you can do that. The ones in this game are implied to be heavy and Berserkesque. While thrusting does do a significant amount of damage, it would never do as much as a swing would. The delay in the game often forces me to parry after the 2 attacks because the thrust takes so damn long and leaves me open.
Swords in general are a lot lighter than people think.
I don't use greatswords and I hate when games get them so very wrong
They should be slower than 1H
but should not need big wind ups.
The GS will be getting a rework anyway, but the thrust is notably bad. You should be mixing in a delayed attack. evasive attack, or jump attack before you ever get to the thrust.
GS is my main and I never use the thrust
They should leave you open when attacking, but very good at parrying
The thrust should have been the 'heavy' attack and it should have done more danage. As of now, it forces its way into your 'light' combo and does as much damage as the first light attack.
2 handed hammers should be slower than Greatswords
Or, again, "more open than a 1H +shield combo"
Go watch some Lucerne hammer fights
Halberd or pikes, sure.
It shouldn't exist - the current delayed attack is too good to replace it with the thrust in any form
The hammers in this game look nothing like those
I just wish game devs would stop doing heavy weapons dirty π
So? We have flying castles.
Give me 2-handers that don't suck π
Well yeah, it's out of place and doesn't give you any benefits. Though I gotta say, they need a 'charged' attack with click+hold for more options.
That we can agree on
GS combo, off bat, should have been swing from right side to left side, then an overhead swing, then the delayed attack as part of the main combo. the delayed attack should have just been the whirlwind spin, that shouldn't be a generic unlockable skill for all 2H because the regular 2H axe/hammer swing outshines it
A really cool mechanic for the Mauls would be to have increased jump attack damage because of the gravity of the head.
Yes, I also think the mauls' delayed attack should do the "crash down attack" shockwave when it hits the ground
I want the weapons to have more unique mechanics to each one
A thrust with a greatsword would be practical if the first two swing animations moved a lot faster. The issue is that it looks like your character is struggling to chop twice then suddenly has the idea to throw his arm out with a thrust that would dislocate his arm.
you could give jump attack different factors for the different damage types, like
+%120 pierce
+%130 slash
+%150 blunt
then it would naturally scale.
Yeah exactly. I think axes would be second in that listing with greatswords being last because smashing swords on the ground is a terrible idea
i am thinking to play meelee and i liked the idea of 2 hands meelee i kinda like greatsword more but its too slow what do you think, first playthrough i am like super in the start, dont know where i should put the skills for that kind of build also which weapons to get cause i dont know how many greatswords i can find in the starting area from the easy boss i took one and one 2h axe
also rarity means more durability?
I am not sure how rarity affects durability.
For 2H, you get one of your most important skills way up the tree. The faster attacks. Note: I don't believe that skill affects Greatswords?
Still doable.
The main issue with Greatswords right now is that most if not all the "2-handed weapon" skills don't apply to Greatswords. They are their own weapon / bonus category.
There are GS specific skills, not sure how it all balances out between them. But I know I hear folks talking about the issue with GS.
I go Hammer and Board. π
Well, Voodoo Cricket Bat and Board at the moment...
I liked the copper Greatsword from Nomad Highlands because of the Leech life x2 but it never scales up after that zone and itβs a bummer because the sustain was amazing
https://enshrouded.wiki.gg/wiki/Fine_Copperblade_Greatsword
wish I could get a lvl 50 version
@vocal shoal you can get this one on the first well boss, i just did. There is alco a 2 handed mace thats good too
also greatsword and a 2 handed mace or axe are very viable, i switch outta greatswod for groups, mostly shroud insects
It's only late in the game / build where non-GS 2-handers get out ahead of GS. And not by so much.
But it is a thing.
GS has no skill that increases combat speed (or, at least, I / some understand it as such, due to the wording and how weapon categories are set up?)
Nor do you get the 2H crit chance increase with GS.
And then Whirlwind Attack.
Note: I am not a 2H build, see above, just what I have seen folks talk about here.
yeah whirlwind is bad on gs, u gotta attack 3 times to trigger it
i only used the dash attack
And yeah that is just "what GS do" and is not improved or affected by the skill. I think.
WW is bad in general because GS requires you to step into the super slow stab and the Axe/Hammer is already a full AoE swing that doesn't have any pause without the WW attack. WW adds a pause to all attack chains that needs to be removed.
But it's still way more useful on greataxe than greatsword.
Greatswords aoe for me is just the dodge attack swipes
Othwrwise just swap to my other stuff its my big guy tool or executing tool
Someone earlier was looking for the maximum life leach 1H'er...
And I was wrong, it's only +10 total, so there may be better. But the best I have found so far.
And my build very much centers on every method of grabbing more health / tank π
I think double leech is the most, and it's on one other 1h
no wait, sorry, it's on another one too
cutting shock and health leech seems like a great combo
Is a staff only magic build viable in this game? I'm really into high burst damage magic attacks
and I really don't want to use a wand
I'm good at figuring out potions and foods and stuff, is that enough to just let me sling spells
You can use staff primarily but yea I would add more HP and armor into the build with many pots
I also recommend skill into the extra food slot for more buff foods or hp food
Nods
You get enough points to pick every single skill in any given branch, and then some.
So 100% staff and magic can, and likely should, add some tank, evasion, mobility, etc.
Do you guys happens to have a good assassins build link there?
Staff only does best with frens playing with you
I'll have one friend
I just love like the big flashy attacks with the spells I hate when some wimpy dart does more or similar damage to a fireball
As long as they don't mind getting smacked, you'll be fine.
Also
Is there any way to get more critical damage in this that I'm missing?
https://enshrouded.gdg.wiki/skills//?id=0D0G0H0M0O0Q0S0T0X0d0e0f0i0j0k0o17181F1L1M1Q1X1a1m1s2223252N2P2R2S2T2U2W2b2j2l2q2v3133341u0s200q1k2f370m0Y-8
You have the main direct skills Wizard and Ranger which is good, but you might want to move some more points into Int for the overall magic damage boost.
Before weapons, you should be able to have 10% global crit chance +28% magical critcal chance and +130% magic damage
That wiki is also not accurate or up-to-date
This is a slightly better skill planner
https://www.enshrouded-skill-tree.com/
What is the use of Mana as a battlemage using Wand and sheild?
Not much use. Mana is only really used for staff casting or magic archers
You could totally avoid spirit skills except where needed to unlock later skills and put those points somewhere else
And any Build Suggestions or website where to find one. Because the guide i follow of battle mage focus on using wands and items that give and restore mana
And how do staff compare with wand
Staff has very long range and can stunlock groups of enemies with high crit
staff is way longer range, u can manually aim it
its a party starter, you ten cleanup with wand, if anything is left
And currently my biggest problem with wand and sheild is, fast enemy are able to get near me enough to deal damage before i kill them especially things like rodents. (Currently carrying dagger only for them lol)
4 or 5. With 3 survivors found
The only reason i am even surviving and not rage quitting is because i changed world settings lol
Blink and a few other abilities
Doesn't that use Stamina??
Is it better to get those int points sooner or later? I'm trying to essentially have as low level of a build concept as I can
Hmm, early levels for Mage, finding a higher level staff or wands and upgrading them will be a more dramatic boost than skill points. That will start to change around mid-game tho. I would say pick up int along the way to special skills, but don't need to try and max int until later.
hopefully a staff with mana drain
Exalted is always a waste of points too
Gonna try a tank/battlemage hybrid. Shield and wand. I've got 70 points and flame level 5 to play with at this time. https://enshrouded-skill-tree.com/?code=WyI3NSIsIjc2IiwiNzciLCI3OCIsIjc5IiwiODEiLCI4NCIsIjg1IiwiODAiLCI4MyIsIjg2IiwiODciLCI1OCIsIjU5IiwiNjkiLCI3MCIsIjc0IiwiMTg4IiwiNTQiLCIxMjciLCIxMjgiLCIxMTciLCIxMSIsIjEyIiwiMjAiLCIxNjUiLCIxMCJd
I intend to get Blink/Emergency Blink later and more wand damage nodes.
Are craftable lore weapons capped at 39?
anybody find a legendary:
Yes, this may change if devs give us higher Flame levels.
Check my recent posts. I linked a YouTube video showing all endgame legendaries.
Which channel?
I am ill and on mobile, sorry if you have to dig but I don't remember. Could also look up the words on YouTube. The video is 14 minutes IIRC.
Vid is 2 months old
π Nice
I'm lvl 25, 1H sword + shield warrior, hoing through Kindlewastes, and as food I'm currently using hazelnuts / Grilled Dune Armadillo / Rooibos Tea. I also recently unlocked the 4th food slot. Any suggestions on optimum food I should go for at that stage?
Guys, i am an old noob with skill issues who luvs the knight archetype. Can i go through the game using 1h weapon and shield? Can i use the shield actively? Attack with shield? Blivk actively?
Yes 1H+shield is one of the best builds currently. You can block as well as parry with the shield, with many skills adding stun to this
Wand or sword?
at first definitely sword
wand breaks too fast and u need at least 2
fire for shroud and animals, and ice for humans
Anything that buffs your health regen or raises weapon damage IMO
Has anyone made a unarmed build possible? Or just not enough in game right now for that?
The Gloom Monarch armor set buffs it a little but with no perks or consumables to buff it I am not sure it has much utility.
Ahh dang. I've been using the 2h GS build. And it's been fun and engaging but thought about trying to mix things up. Caster is cool but feels so sluggish to me
Guess I wanted to try to break out of the basic but I'm sure with time we'll get a ton of variety
It seems they wanted to build into that and then it got put on the shelf; that or they are just telling us what a specifick kinda butthole that guy was who wore the armor first. There's a lore note about him mooshin' heads with his boot.
Hmmm, only time will tell
whats the strongest ranged build? is it wands, staffs or bows?
Yeah, I honestly think the unarmed damage boost from that set is more of a lore thing than anything else. Begone! and Kick with a ward equipped can kind of give you an unarmed moveset, but it's just punches and the kick and it barely does actual damage, just knockback.
Unarmed crash down attack, evasive attack, rings that give unarmed attacks elemental damage and boosts, could get us to a decent unarmed playstyle
So I saw some older messages on here but am not sure if it got resolved, does the wet dog skill work? I got the skill but still have the 30% debuff on stamina, I'm not sure if it's just a glitch that the text doesn't get updated in the menu or if it actually doesn't change the debuff... thanks!
The menu isn't updating, but the perks do work. I've mentioned it several times and posted a bug report about it.
Ah sorry that I missed those, thanks for clarifying π have a great night/day wherever you are π
Just show up at Cubs house and report it that way.
I can get you his address: 44 Keen way, Embervale
If you like the GS and want to use magic, I am currently playing that build.
I can share what I have learned.
i currently am using wand and greatsword, greatsword with no perk does the job, wich is, stun elite foes
Oh that'd be awesome, ty
I am currently level 24, so I am not sure how strong GS will be without perks at end-game. But I plan to use GS with magic damage boots from magic skills. But I don't use the GS for damage. I use it with the Kick skill to control my enemies by timing my attacks to have the GS swing up, knocking enemies in the air. This stun locks the enemy.
- Set your hotbar with your spells so you can quickly switch between them in battle. Make sure to have your staff as your selected range weapon. Then you can use your quick cast key to cast your spells while you are holding your GS for melee and blocking.
- This build uses the bow with ice arrows.
- Great Sward for my main weapon
- One hand (Axe if possible) to deal with swarms and taking out spawners
- Wand / Ward Shield for mana regen and flying enemies that want to get in your face.
Key skill combos for this build:
- Serviel - Earth Aura / Warden / Tower / Water Aura / (Orbs from Bloodletting / Good Metabolism)
- Bow and Ice Arrows - Ranger / Blessed Arrows
- Mana Sustain - Arcane Deflection / Absorb / Snap / Soul Leech / (Orbs from Bloodletting / Good Metabolism)
- Control - Great Sword / Kick / Merciless Attack / Terror
- Mana / Health / Energy Sustain - Dessert Stomach
- Damage - Quick Charge / Wizard Tree
Gear:
- Life Steel wherever you can get it. (Rings)
- Health / Stamina and Physical Res from Tank gear (Chest and/or Legs)
- Mana Regen / Crit / Dmg / Magic Res from Mage gear (Everything else and/or Legs)
Any questions?
Ill tru this when I get home but seems like it makes sense! Appreciate it!
yes np
is Righteous Fire bugged?
Β―_(γ)_/Β― What is it doing wrong?
its not doing damage to fell enemies when i heal my friend
If the fell are near your friend or yourself (perhaps Β―_(γ)_/Β― ) and not taking damage, I would report it as a bug.
I am not aware of many people that play that skill, so I would not be surprised if others have not reported this bug.
Will do
I wonder what weapon type they can add for mages eventually
Maybe an orb off hand and magical sword in the other?
Iβm begging for a crossbow for archer lol
An orb or tome would be cool but I'm having trouble thinking how they'd differentiate themselves from wands and staves. I'd prefer less situations like 1H weapons where they're all basically reskins with different stats
honestly the Forced "you walk forward 11 feet" when using a staff and casting a spell needs to go, wha tidiot thought it was a good idea?.
Eh, mobility moves are a thing in most all the weapon types.
We can't help you, but here is how you can tell the Devs your thought.
https://enshrouded.featureupvote.com/suggestions/529682/staff-animation-remove-stepping-forward-on-cast-fireball-wand-etc-dont-move-forw
I like how staff casting steps the character less than .25m, which means the 11 feet of movement is actually the player doing it themselves
clearly exaggeration for comedic effect is beyond your ability to comprehend
i think its there to stop us from sniping from roofs infinetely
at least thats the only time i notice
I would agree IF... it happened when using a bow,, or a wand.. or bombs.. etc etc... but its just the staff, ive killed and cheesed pretty much every boss by standing on a ledge and using a bow when ive been to bored to fight it properly, it makes sense with melee weapons honestly if i swing a sword/axe etc then yes there will be forward motion.. but with ranged.. its just the staff..
Just upvoted. You can work around it, but it is annoying.
Thank you for actually upvoting. Sometimes I wonder if the reason why combat topics have so few votes isn't just that everyone has a different opinion, but because many players would prefer to be angry instead of providing feedback.
I mean I can be mad. Whatcha want me to be mad about. How mad I'm not? GOD I have to get my S#!+ together!!
honestly alot of the topics about combat seem to be swamped with "games perfect git gud" .. if the games perfect itll be in 1.0 and they wont be asking for feed back
Yeah, or "It's designed that way therefore the devs prefer it like that and they know better than you so your point is invalid"... lol
This keeps me from playing as more dedicated mage. my preferred playstyle involves a lot of sniping and it makes zero sense that casting with a staff moves you forward. A parry, sure. That's moving in some way to block or redirect the opponent's blow, but straight up casting?
There's constructive, reasonable feedback, but there's also unrealistic feedback. The game will not be all things to all playstyles. There are also hundreds of thousands of games out there. Good feedback for an EA game is typically along the lines of "Based on the core game design, what would help it be the best at that design?". Unrealistic feedback is typically "Ignoring how the devs are planning the game, add this thing from another game because I want it."
100% its that kind of argument that is basically saying "how dare you be critical of a game you paid for" and the "the game will not be all things to all playstyles" ... while true, being critical of a mechanic that makes no sense or seems to be detrimental to a % of the player base that wants to run a specific build the game has, but finding how certain things have been implemented for that class/build over shadow the advantages well.. saying nothing = blind devotion and doesn't lead to progress,
I can enjoy something immensely and still be able to be objectively critical. playing a Mage build is fun, the fact its got issues and some strange designs that make no sense, is worth brining up, the fact state wise magic armour on Mage gear is pretty pointless for all the played game I've been playing(lvl40) as all of 5? enemies magic attacks and they can be avoided in your sleep, other than a few, mobs are almost purely melee/physical.
The fact the optimal strat for taking down bosses and most mobs is to cheese the path finding.
Or face tank potion spam.
The personal experience of playing melee vs magic vs Ranged, leaves Melee the most powerful and dominant approach to combat and its bloody boring.
This is the cornerstone arugment whenever anyone brings up criticism of Path of Exile. Oh if you don't like it play a different game bc that's how they want it.
the fact state wise magic armour on Mage gear is pretty pointless for all the played game I've been playing(lvl40) as all of 5? enemies magic attacks and they can be avoided in your sleep, other than a few, mobs are almost purely melee/physical.
And you know what's funny? When you actually find an annoying enemy with strong magical attack all your full magic armor doesn't help against it! It still one-shots you*. Talking about those lizards-priests with homing light bolts.
** at least until you take final flame improvement
If the slow motion sunball hits you, I mean... don't stand still.
It is not homing, and it moves at less than crouched walk speed
Not saying you are wrong on everything. But that sunball can one-shot just about any build at times.
That mini supernova is so strong. I don't think anything hits that hard.
It has some charge up mechanic, as it doesn't always deal massive damage
But no idea on the specifics, other than it is very slow, and hurts a lot
i die more tho the spear jumpscares
Sure, but in case of staves, players will often have perched themselves on top of a structure for safety during casting. This forced movement requires constant repositioning, which bows dont suffer from
Though I do agree that "what idiot thought that this would be good" is an extreme take, because of your point. It just doesn't work well in practice and is at odds with the rest of the design of staff-based combat
Upvoted as well, and saved the link for a guide I'll be making later.
I too wish for like a "stand my ground" option for melee. But it is manageable once you get the feel of it.
I think both approaches are problematic. "Change the game to my personal playstyle" is not good feedback, but "Git gud" is also not a good response.
Obviously within reason but I think feedback is valid
Players are absolutely free to provide feedback, but recommendations to drastically change the development plan aren't likely to happen, especially when it's a small amount of the total playerbase.
I am very often not sure about the "Player base" that's my problem. If I make a suggestions about the game must have pink bunnies, and I post this suggestions multiple times, a) I would get votes, but how many votes I would get without promote the suggestion? I found many good suggestions with only 1 or 2 upvotes. b)"WTF? Nobody need pink bunnies!" No downvote button.
And I have no hope, but in my opinion some game concepts are completely wrong. These require something completely new. For example NPCs. Little adjustments are not enough.
As a gameplay engineer (not for Enshrouded tbc), this is absolutely correct.
Broadly-speaking, developers will generally understand the way mechanics in their game are designed to interlock better than the playerbase. But they're not going to be perfect in their design. Honestly there's a lot of people out there who have no business making games, as evidenced by so many trash games existing
is a 'dagger' a 'melee weapon'? or are daggers their own thing?
If a game is so far off from what I prefer, I don't play it...
And tons of games have lost me in development for this or that choice.
They literally cannot make everyone happy, and they can only address issues or requests so fast. Even if they want to do it.
Feedback is fine. Hyperbole and angst and demands, not so much.
Personally, my biggest wish for magic would be that the devs embrace the idea of them being multitools. Many survival games sorta kinda dabble in this concept, but none that I'm aware of have ever committed.
In Conan Exiles' sorcery update, there's a spell that lets you form a temporary bridge of ice, which players can also use as a brief blockade for combat purposes.
Existing example in Enshrouded is how Fireball is the choice spell when you want to break environment objects. Light Burst appears to drive back the Shroud temporarily (but doesn't actually), though it'd be nice if it did and would add some extra utility to a largely underwhelming spell.
Would reworking spells to suit this design philosophy be a big lift? Probably, so it's doubtful we'd see it in time for 1.0 (if ever). Do I still wish it would happen? Absolutely π
It also depends on exactly where they go with survival mechanics.
Right now, they are just burn timers.
Yeah, for sure. Though having them double as adventuring tools would also match this
Cold, Shroud, Oxygen - you "need to eat" but there isn't like a starvation mechanic, yet.
You don't have to worry over feeding your townfolk.
Hell, even Dragon's Dogma (both 1 and 2) have an ice spire attack spell that leaves a brief platform you can climb on
depends on difficulty settings. starvation exists, i doubt it will become 'mandatory'
Fair.
I have it turned on. I don't starve.
I just get a "you are hungry" notice lol.
They count as melee, but do not benefit from 1h or 2h skills.
They also scale on agility rather than strength
sure, but aside from the first 20-30m of any survival game with the possible exception of 'dont starve' do you ever? once setup starvation is largely another preparation step
Skyrim with survival mod did at least apply a massive debuff if you didn't eat or sleep, and did in fact force you to do both on a believable schedule.
Project Zomboid depends on server / loot settings.
The skill descriptions are not very clear on damage types. Like "ranged" does not include "ranged spells", it's meant for bows.
Note: I'm not pushing for either of the above's take being applied here, just wondering where they do intend to go, and commenting on possibilities.
I would love for our towns / bases to have more survival stuff. Have to have animals and crops to feed people, sufficient water source, etc.
Don't mean that is what they will do tho.
I want Fishing skills π
i could see it as a difficulty setting, but I'd prefer if they made NPCs stop falling through my floor before working on it π
Details... π
It actually does all make perfect sense as written - once you realize what all the possible "tags" are.
lol can you imagine if you don't make enough crops or food for your survivors, and you leave them alone for a while, when you come back to base some goats are just gone?
1H, 2H, Greatsword, Bow, Daggers, etc.
Goats should just randomly be gone and you should get quests to track them down.
I have friends that raise goats.
They find them on their neighbor's rooftop.
right, i'm assuming 'piercing' would help arrows, some daggers, etc
as arrows and daggers often have piercing as their damage type. but so do some other weapons, like morning stars
Only if specifically Piercing, not Piercing Melee - and I am pretty sure every instance of Piercing is Piercing Melee
Bows get their damage boosts from the arrow skills, not piercing. Some items might affect both ranged and melee peircing, but the skills I am fairly certain are separated.
huh, so adding piercing from the 'red' group doesn't affect an arrow? interesting
Red is Strength / Con / Melee. Period.
Zero ranged or magic skills.
Though all builds benefit from more HP π
huh, that's weird, but okay. i'm suprised that the cold tree affects the ice arrow then
I could be wrong. But yeah there is some crossover in some trees / skills.
Like Retaliation on the blue side will proc on melee blocking with shield.
I can't think of any on the melee tree that are like that, other than the few that are plus to all "melee" which also affects daggers.
"Ranged" is the intrinsic damage type bows do, therefore the buffs for Melee Piercing will not affect it.
wild, but okay. so would something like 'battle heal' work with a dagger then?
It should AFAIK.
Let me check tooltip real quick
crit with a 'melee weapon'
Yeah, daggers qualify under "Melee."
cool
Interestingly enough if you take food that buffs melee you get only a tiny boost to their damage but if you take food that specifically buffs daggers it gets a much larger boost; I'm figuring Dex factors in there but I'm sorta a dummy so I can't really explain it more than that.
With how fast animals go through food atm...oof
Technically there are some Tank perks that give you MP under certain conditions, but yeah realistically they didnt build much overlap between the 3 archetypes, which is a shame to see.
You don't need to feed them, they'll generate products without it albeit much slower
Fair.
Yeah I know. Was responding to a comment concerning more hardcore-survival gameplay. Specifically, what if not feeding them causes them to die/leave
I expect the skill tree will expand eventually. We need a Paladin tree, a Bard tree, a Monk tree... Polearms... Spears... π
Fishing...
Is this with a dagger/range build specifically, or something that happens on melee builds too? Cause if its the former it could be cause of multiplicative stacking
Randy Random laughs sadistically
Dagger + Bow might be the single most "cross-class" build, and one of the better overall builds at the moment.
Kind of designed to work together it seems.
1H / 2H + Bow is workable, as is any Bow + Magic combo for Eternal Arrow synergy.
Straight Mage / Healer is kind of the underdog at the moment, at least for solo play.
all you need for eternal arrows is battle mania
And Elixir...
Honestly if Dagger + Bow is considered cross class, Wand + Staff would be too since its basically the same dichotomy and mechanical tie in
I reread Battle Mania and was like "so that's why it sucks when I try it..." π
Fair.
But for wand vs. staff, do many folks switch between all that much? I switch from 1H to Bow for some stuff, but mostly just bonk.
And do not ever switch to 2H melee these days.
I'd wager that people with dots in Strength will get more benefit from the "melee" boost than I did on my Dex-focused build, and also experience lower "dagger damage" buffs for the same reason. It seems to calculate based on the core stat. But that is untested by me.
No, this is right by my reckoning too, and is why Bow + Daggers works better than Melee + Bows (or Daggers..)
You are already focused into Dex + Endurance.
See daggers getting less overall from the melee skills that do apply to them.
I put enough points to bow just to "do something" and use that for picking off problems from afar, pulling, banshees sometimes, the stupid jellyfish things...
Shooting bombs in the middle of groups...
But my bow damage is not good. At all.
Yeah that sounds like multiplicative stacking. By using daggers without speccing into their central stat, you're effectively leaving one of the scalars at 1
Don't quote me but all of the damage is additive not multiplicative
Hello, I have this wand and I put the gem of meteoric impact I think in it ... is there a better gem to use?
Gem of Burning
Hum, I don't have that one ... what biom would I find that one??
[[Gem of Burning]]
Springlands.
thanks ...
That's what my impression was so far, but with the changes they made to consumable buffs since I last played, it might have been altered
Specifically for consumables, tbc. I also haven't tested that part yet
Some of the really basic gems are still great. Burning, puncturing, swiftness...
Anyone know if Gem damage procs can trigger skills? With my limited testing trying to get Corruption to trigger Shroud Filter and having never seen Gem effects crit, I'm guessing it's a "no" at the moment.
so got a qeird question do the spells scale like at all? watching a youtube series (z1 gaming) and it seems like magic is just melee with some hominh projectiles? seems kinda weird
been debating getting the game as the magic looked good but that seemed weird
You get better spells as you progress, and damage does scale based off your intelligence and magic damage.
Yes. What you watched was wand-based combat, which is very distinct from staff-based combat. Both scale based on your intelligence and magic damage buffs. Both trigger the same skill perks, with only a few exceptions. In practice you should be using both.
Wands are analogous to swords in that they're mid-ranged single-target and always just shoot some projectiles based on the wand's properties. You can use them with a shield in your off-hand, and you'll generally keep multiple on you for different situations, same as someone would melee weapons. They use no mana or stamina, just durability.
Staffs are different, and you'll likely keep only one on you at any given time. They are usually manually aimed at long range, and they let you select a spell to cast (e.g. Fireball, Heal Channel). They have no durability, but spell charges are generally limited and act like ammo (except for "Eternal" spell variants). Spells have a cast time and use mana, and the majority have an AoE.
Having mained magic all the way to endgame, I can confirm that magic is a lot of fun. Though, be aware it is considered the underdog of the 3 archetypes atm due to some dev overtuning. It's still solo viable, though. I plan to write up a detailed guide here soon about how to main magic, since no such guide seemingly exists yet.
The point is feedback is rarely demands for very specific big changes. Like it happens, but I think you'd be surprised how rare it is comparatively. Most of the time, it's a complaint or issue with a design choice that's causing the player a lot of friction. That sort of feedback is NEVER wrong and ALWAYS valuable.
It's basically a great data point of: Okay that person didn't understand that mechanic, maybe it wasn't intuitive enough, worth keeping in mind OR hmm that player found this underpowered and underwhelming, helpful to know.
It's not about changing things instantly when you get feedback, it's about keeping track so if they become a trend you can do something about it.
While players will always miss things that others deem "obvious"... if it continues to happen, then it's indicative of a design flaw. This is the best way to find issues with any game, full stop, imo.
To add to what @teal dragon said, it's also not uncommon that player feedback doesn't even directly address the root problem, because players will be biased and have limited knowledge. When a feedback trend arises, identifying the trend is often just the start of designing a response.
Simplistic example is that in some game, players may largely agree "X playstyle feels weak", but depending on the game that could tell the developers "X needs a more distinct niche so it isn't as directly comparable to Y", "Y is too strong and trivializes content", "X is mechanically strong but the UX needs more visual/audio signaling", or any number of things.
I think we're talking about two different things. Idealized usage of feedback on the dev side vs player expectation of direct implementation.
They're only sort of different. Regardless of the form of feedback, devs will generally interpret it similarly.
Players will generally expect quick response times because the vast majority have no idea how much work developing a game is, let alone a game engine.
Two sides of the same coin, and also why most game studios hire community mamagers to mediate
I think a key theme mentioned here is "trend" - which is what the featureupvote is trying to help with.
If your point is just to quell expectations for huge changes, that's fair, agreed especially in later development/early access. My point is that player feedback rarely looks like "okay here's the list of huge changes I expect by Monday next week".
Something that seems very common in the discord critiques though is "My idea is a good idea even though few other players have supported it" and it seems to me that most of these ideas are recommending total reworks.
I don't know, I think this is probably accurate. But also I probably should not have bothered?
It doesn't have to be a long list for the players to expect fast turnaround. Often players will only have one or two major complaints that they fixate on, and get frustrated when they take time.
It's hard to keep players from feeling like providing feedback is shouting into a void, but on some level that's just how things are.
I mean, it's because often it is shouting into the void lol. Even responsive devs like the Enshrouded devs do not address everything, or even close to that. Not blaming them, it'd be an enormous draw on resources to address literally everything which could be better put into, like, making the game.
True. I'm more referring to valid feedback that the devs plan to address. The turnaround is pretty much universally way slower than players expect
I was way past that area, and was using whatever gems I found. Apparently I didnβt pick that one up but then I have a few holes in my map and quests. I will post if this gem makes a bigger different than the one I had been using.
really wish in games like this content creators would get away from the "BEST BUILD" videos
reserve for it things like MMORPG's
Like this is the last game to add that kind of competitiveness
Imo
end vent
FUN BUILDS would be the wayt o go
They're after folks like me. Despite the non-competitive nature of the game im still looking for optimal builds when it comes to combat
hello, how much base damage are draks supposed to deal? I'm getting oneshotted by all of them and I have to do some calculations on defense
If I goof up, a Drak can hit my light+heavy mix armor Rogue for around 600-800. They're no joke. The spellbombs are even nastier cause of my overall low magic protection.
My problem is that I'm a mage and I cannot dodge in this game cause the animations are weird to me. I'm playing with 150% damage because otherwise the rest of the game feels too easy, but draks don't scale well and i get 1k damage from their heavy blows
the wand has short range too and the staff causes them to hide
I'm basically running around them like an idiot
I cannot figure out the stats, 440 magical protection and still the yellow orb does 1k too...
Yes, I have no problem with damage, just defense
they literally one-shot me or bring me to 10% with one hit
even from magical attacks
I'd buy this game 4x over again if it had combat like No Rest For The Wicked.
I would be happy with just a proper dodge and/or animation cancelling
I don't mean the balance, I mean the animations, responsiveness.
Same
but u got blink right?
Obvioulsly
but still the animations trigger the damage when they start I suppose
and they are not much clean so I cannot get them right
The fact that you have zero poise in heavy armor and a lvl 1 enemy staggers you is so jank.
but this is not a souls-like so I don't suppose that dodging should be the only mechanic to not die
I hope they focus on combat in an upcoming patch.
Give heavy armor poise and voila, you have a completely different playstyle.
As it stands, blink is mandatory.
well the other option is to parry the,
even with blink the enemies cast are too many and too quick, so I'd be only dodging, I die when I try to cast anything and I cannot cancel the animation
mostly
even parry does not cancel the animation of the wand (that is slow)
there is no potion either to reduce damage received, only damage output increase
I'm already a glass cannot as it is
I will have to go back to 120% damage in the difficulty settings, no prob, I was just wondering if I was playing it wrong
thanks
nah mate drak definitely hit hard
i was running mage when the update dropped and the lunge funked me up a lot of times
I know a lot of Mages who run some soldier armor.
Mix and match, try new things, even respecs or alt weapons; or even look into that combo of soaking foes and zapping them with the Gem of Currents added. Experimenting is fun, hitting head on wall is not.
i used some heavy armor too, mostly only used mana regen armor, chest usually warrior armor
and ring mana regen too
i also carried a mana leech staff
lmao i try to snipe with my staff and the spell go to some random autotargeted mob
I use the life leech ring as there are no decent defesive rings (maibe hp) but it useless with that much burst damage
yeh that ring is pretty good
I have found that slowing them with ice magic causes the lunge attack to have shorter range
so I'm mostly safe unless they flank me or I cannot cast it fast enough
now the yellow orb that does through walls kills me even if it should be magic damage, and same for the bit one that casts the spikes from the ground
You gotta dodge roll to the side as it's approaching you. It's not a homing missile. But that's why it sucks to fight in halls cause it has what feels like a good 12-15m width.
another one that destroys me are the sickleheads that spam those throwables like a machinegun
it is FAST tho
You can parry pack sicklescythe dual projectiles. You can also just stand directly beneath them and it won't hit you.
yeah directly beneath its safe
they do cast them like 5 times in a row, it's madness
Five chances for me to hurt them without wasting arrows. πΌ
I'm gonna try with this instead of the taumaturge, at least I sould not die instantly
I have 3/5, I have changed the chest of the previous set with heavy since I cannot craft the new chest yet
i see
I was trying to use this but it is so much a pain in the ass to cast
woha 4 seconds is a lot
especially because the staff gets you killed when up close
but i guess casting it before foghting doesnt hurt
It may be useful in a team but alone is unusable
but in a team I don't need it so...
and using the mouse wheel to change spells is terrible, most of the time I mess up
combat is really terrible in this game since the beta but enemies keep getting stronger
but overall is a good game, dont get me wrong
As a mage player i read a bit of what you're saying and i agree completely. The animation lengths on wands and charge on staffs are incredibly punishing. Not to mention Drak like to hide in the bamboo and lunge from what feels like revelwood.
those jumpscares are no joke
even fireball is borderline unusable solo with 2s cast time
i can only use it as an opener in the event i see them ahead of time
I mostly use the staff from above but I feel like a coward
if u got the cast speed perk its only 1 sec
and with terror aint bad
but imo the fireballs previous to the eternal one aint good at all
too little aoe
acid bite is even worse, slow, costs a lot and does no damage at all
even a small cone and lasts shortly on the ground
heard it was nerfed a lot
I don't know, on paper should be a lot of damage but it does no feel like it when using it
which one?
I have it but
i dont think that changes
oh ok
np mate
Mages need an entangle spell or some kind of aoe stun if they donβt have it already
Lightning can stun, but seems less than sufficient in that regard.
terror stuns on spell crits
Should archers use blink or just the regular roll
depends if you want to use stealth attack, if stealth attack, normal roll for sure... otherwise, depends if you want the "break stun" of blink, but blink isn't that good honestly. it un-crouches you and prevents stealth. while normal rolling does allow stealth.
I have never been able to actually use stealth in this game I feel like that was an afterthought until they add actual stealth skills like camouflage, etc
THERE IS STEALTH IN THIS GAME??!!
you can stealth... it's not that good, but it's kinda there
you press C to toggle crouch... and I hate this, but there's literally a tutorial on how to do so, at the very start of the game... BEFORE you could ever get stealth attack!
Stealth (crouching) is only really "used and relative" when taming animals.
I remember seeing the pop up to hide in bushes and sneak to attack and it didn't work at all
Else you just keep out of LOS / trigger range and do stuff. If you attack a foe from behind, that NPC will come after you, but not necessarily their friends.
"Adds" varies on if they have LOS on the injured party, or if they are a "grouped" bunch, or if they are the type that calls out a warning, etc.
Its also the fact that you can't aggro one enemy, everything is alerted and that's weird.
So there is some stealth gameplay, it's just not at all deep right now.
I still want smoke bombs or maybe a skill to go invisible for a short amount of time, or camoflauge idk
You can pull single enemies, some types / sometimes at least.
Much harder to do on Drak or Hollow, as those tend to be grouped up somehow. But scavengers, vukar, most critters, yeah.
Very rare, and they have to be a good bit away from the pack
But just not really a "viable" strategy, more getting a little luck and picking off a few before they all pounce π
I'm going off on a tangent in here and enshrouded chat tonight lol
It's chat. It's kind of almost always tangential... π
Maybe I'll post more clips of combat, now that I know how to record it more easily.
IRL? Make sure you yell worldstar before the combat starts please
def never including anything about me outside of the game. I am just a cat lost in space and that's enough.
|| He's running from the Interdimensional Sapient Feline Authority. ||
I grew up playing games made by two guys from Andromeda.
They were weird.
stealth lets you sneak up on explosive mines and disarm them but yea, i don't use stealth for much as everything notices me from far away.
Guys, venom blades on Lunar Bow is absolutely useless right? It doesnt stack with the "venomous blades" and "venom mastery" and barely ever procs.
so basically the bow is barely useful
right?
okay so I checked with the combat team and you're absolutely correct
it's on our list of things to fix!
β€οΈ
Talk about service, dang.
What is the best gem for a shocking bow?
if u are using magic arrows, id say battle mania is king on any bow
Does Gem of Aerobatics have a drop Chance? Or how do you optain them
Requires elixir. Fracturing seems to only really gel with bone arrows..
Yes, I find them a lot in veilwater
shocking is fracturing? legitimaly asking
No. Fracturing makes extra arrows when bow deals blunt damage
ah i see, i didnt know that, i stand corrected then
For bow, focused light might work.
Most gems are a bit situational π
And the ones that aren't are DoT which only rarely does more than 1 tick of said damage.
Focused Light has a damage boost to every hit, plus the damage boost stacking debuff
Swiftness and agility always apply, but are a bit unexciting and not wildly apparent boosts
OK
Note, there may be better options, just my take on things
About an hour ago my Valhost server kicked me out briefly, and after that retaliation effects stopped working. I cant see steam updating anything, was some hotfix rolled out? Retaliation seemed overpowered, so maybe there was some bugged interaction?
I used the Nova blade that has both 40% retaliation and 5% lifesteal, and the counterattack skill. Most Drak for example killed themself with three hits on me and I healed for more than they did damage every time. (I could heal up to full by walking into a spinning spike trap for example, I assume they counted as melee damage). I killed the Drak boss by just standing still and letting it hit me.
It's been working like that for weeks, so anyone know what happened an hour ago? π
so im turning into a wand main with minimal staff investment, any recommended gems for wand
I use gem of currents on my shock wand. If you're soaked or wet while fighting pretty much any enemy i hit will get the soaked status (which means they will take 30% increased shock dmg)
It is situational, but simple enough to be in said situation
thats a good one, i havent seen a single shock wand yet
And as a note to that, you can just use the portable water pump to "soak" yourself
The one I use in particular is the ancient drak wand. It is straight shock damage and doesn't have a secondary fire effect like the ritual tempest wand.
The only bad part is that the wand im using is end game, and can't really be obtained until veilwater basin
yeah but i can look for it once i get there
Thats true. For better or worse, I played a mage build from level 1 all the way to 45.
Its definitely rough in the beginning, but as you fill that skill tree it really starts to come together.
I was getting like 2 shotted in the first couple biomes π
tbf, mine feels really powerful already, im lvl 18 with lvl 25 wands
got the wand damsge set too in nomad highlands
Yeah it was fun finding overleveled gear and deleting bosses
there is a gold chest that drops lvl 25 weapons on nomad spire, in the first floor, i been farming that
funny thong is, the one inthe pillar outside drops lower lvl
I get a lot of mileage out of Gem of Corruption on my Voidcaller. With the related perk, Voidcaller always shoots 2-4 projectiles per swing, so it stacks Corruption quickly enough to where the added damage isn't too shabby, but mainly helps the wand clean due to the added AoE.
Some notes on the Corruption blast:
- Doesn't seem to be able to crit or proc Shroud Filter (from my limited testing). Unfortunate
- The 3 sec countdown before the blast effectively begins as soon as you reach 5 (max) stacks of Corruption. Fortunately the devs had the good sense to keep successive hits from resetting the timer despite no further stacks being added.
- The blast is also supposed to trigger when the target dies with Corruption stacks on them, but fairly often if you kill them in one strike no blast will get triggered. Probably some order-of-operations bug under the hood where the Corruption stacks are getting applied after the enemies are already marked as dead. This might also mean that this on-death trigger will tend towards a weaker blast if the enemy dies quickly but not in one swing.
not a bda one, hadnt considered it. Shroud works good on anything besidas human enemies?
Hahaha no.
Most everything is resistant to shroud other than scavengers (who are not resistant, nor weak.) and animals / beasts.
I could be wrong there but pretty sure.
Gem of Lycanthropy ... what weapon or does it matter on the weapon?
I was thinking of using it in a bow since I use that and a wand almost exclusively
Only really works with melee pretty sure.
Not that it says so, but: It spawns orbs on kills, that you have to collect for the buff.
And then it massively boosts melee damage along with a few other things.
Reminder: Werewolves don't need guns to absolutely murderize you π
Well that kind of sucks ... ok then I will look for something else π
I know there is a lot of sadface about bows and relevant gems for.
battle mania
Only if you are crazy enough to drink the literal death potion that killed the world and drove the scavengers to, well, whatever it is they do...
Yes, yes, I know, "it's a game and has no real consequence" - but I read the lore π
Also, Elixir tastes funny. Or so I am told.
(Literally have yet to drink a single elixir or fell potion.)
And apparently drinking Elixir does put some mysterious flag on your character / save...
that would be awesome, i actually havent used it on my last char
trying to play without it
Now it's easy, who really needs to bother for 20% more damage only against fell? And a debuff around fell. Old 20% to all damage was another matter.
Shroud time debuffs aren't really a concern once you get skills like Purification or especially Shroud Filter
Still not drinking Elixir, stop offering it to me π
Traveler.
Or wanderer? I forget...
Unfortunately Shroud Spells aren't that powerful right now - There's a viable build path just ignoring Shroud Fatigue with Shroud Filter easily keeping the timer at max
We definitely need more spells in general but Iβm sure thatβs coming
I saw your comments about an Entangle spell and think it would be cool if we had different branches of mage stuff, like Arcane mage could be more fire/ice/lightning, a nature mage could specialize in acid bite/healing/enemy control, a necromancy tree...
That would be cool
In terms of new spells some ideas I had were blizzard, Dragon Breath, Entangle, thunder, Wind Gust (knockdown enemies), Dark magic which would be things like raising the dead, placing temporary curses that damage over time or decrease resistances/armor, curse to reduce enemy damage
A light spell that lets you actually see stuff? π
Or Darkvision / Shroudvision, something.
Jump Spell π
why does my say 1% lol
You are lower level? You can't just grab a L50 weapon or gem and get L50 stat bonuses. They are all % of base value stuff.
im level 33, and a ranger build. maybe thats why
Maybe? That seems very low for L33 stat boosts.
I don't exactly know how the math works on that, other than knowing it is % of base in the end. What % and how they calculate what % that should be, no idea.
Because until you get the orb it only buffs your melee 1%
Once you get an orb the bottom part of the text kicks in and you get +51% melee damage.
It's a crazy gem and the tooltips for gems are very hard to parse.
why does his tooltip show the correct scaling tho?
I cannae tell ye this, son. I think @flat gust has some experience with this gem.
Generally the top text is for the level 1 version of a gem and the lower box of text is for the "version at the level you have."
Mine shows way higher numbers even without the buff active...
yeah so strange
My mistake. π
it also doesn't show a buff timer when you pick up the orb
As always I defer to the more experienced folks here and honestly, if y'all can give me an answer and show your work, please share lol.
Those both look right to me, for level even.
Always best to look at them in inventory, though, yes.
The in inventory vs. on hover storage displays are different - probably one of the easier bugfixes in the next update or so
this one is on a lvl 45 char
16 piercing damage
this on a lvl 21 char
17 piercing damage
i dont think the lvl affects it at all, maybe once slotted its different
i dont have a lycantrophy gem
my level 50 is the same as yours
It's a display issue
seems to be displaying weird too
the data up doesnt update at all with gem lvl
+8 on simple tooltip - explanation says +28
It updates when viewing when outside of the storage view
maybe try checking i the gem forge
both are in inventory, not storage
my lyco still says 1% even on weapon
thats super weird
The backpack view should be more accurate
if more evidence is needed
i fished for it for 2 days
i tried gem of burning, seemed underwheling for ranger
but on my beserker it revives me all the time π
got 3 maxed puncturing and 1 bleeding
Gem of burning for Ranger on Oath Breakers and Ignited bow, but I do use Avalanche Bow more often
yeah i did try a fire ranger build with it on my ignited
Keli still has yet to find a level 50 bow. π’
now im using a forsaken bow
Plenty of 48s tho.
rip
SOON
im running a elemental bow build at the moment, it seems to be the highest damage i can manage
but i still have no clue on gem, tried aerobatics, didnt like it. now im trying currents
Aerobatics auto-targeting and range doesn't seem to work for me. Still using gem of puncturing, burning, or focused light
it doesnt, just always shoot them out straight for me
but also they do verry little damage
@fleet field what is your ranger build if you dont mind - this is mine https://www.enshrouded-skill-tree.com/?shortCode=69883a74ff0af27bb31011a5
oh give me a moment I'll make the build.
this is also my ranger gear
a ring of teh ancients connoseiou... i dont know how toi write that
Okay so... this is not a build for everyone, it's very much a evasion dagger eternal frost arrow build and I use Ice-Coated Daggers a lot
https://enshrouded-skill-tree.com/?shortCode=698d62bf7f3beebbdad3f37e
Keli approves of the bare beli. πΈ
yeah i like it, i swap it out for thundersnow alot when exploring
that is very similar to my last build, now im all about the explosives π
i used daggers the longest time, but they just seem so feeble- now i just point blank shoot enemies in the crotch
A crotch shot counts as a skill shot π
Keli has a similarly speedy but also a different build that uses Begone and Crash Down
I do not use Begone, but I do use Shockwave. :> Nezuki will be testing Begone.
Oh! my mistake
Cause it's SOOOO wise for a squooshy lil Mage to get into bareknuckle fights. XD
Crash-Down, Evade Attack, Kick, Leap-Attack, Shockwave... 1H + Shield...
Yes, all the crazy utility moves. So fun.
okay gem of currents was super underwhelming
I play like a pinball, just bouncing from foe to foe...
Oh I got Begone and Kick mixed up
Begone is fun on a ranger, just swap to an empty slot and kick em where it hurts for a instant stun
Most gems are ultimately underwhelming right now, other than early on. My take at least.
I will never have an empty slot - I am loot goblin.
I will select my "empty slot" and throw a fish at them...
or use a potion. or throw a bomb. or basically be laughed at and murderized π
This x10000000
Like they "do a thing" but picking which you want for a build... eh...
And a couple that are situationally amazing, generally do nothing?
Lycanthropy, Currents, etc.
Hmm, if you think about it, throwing a fish at someone out of nowhere could be more stunning than kicking or punching them
except battle mania, that gem is a beast
Only if you use Elixir.
I told you all, stop offering it to me. π
All the cool Flameborn are using Elixir
Yeah, so was Morgoth. And the scavengers
"I read the Lore" π
I tried battle mania, was ok.
Like, what even happened to the scavengers faces? Is that a helmet? Or have their faces in fact turned inside out?
Just a sip wont hurt π

What if we let you try the first Elixir for free?
Elixir: not even once!
It's like bath salts + non-euclidean geometry man. Just say
Literally gets you high but also turns you into an owned devil person. Terrible for a career.
Supposedly, it puts a flag on your character file the first time you drink it...
I have no idea if that is true nor if it actually means anything.
But with my luck?

They'll put a flag on it for your character specifically
Future content: Sorry, you drank the Elixir, you work for the bad guys now.
Also, your face is gone.
I'll take a flagon for my character.
This is why spaces and punctuation are important :p
woha we have a flying suit??
Let's not quote the Oxford Comma version of that joke, without rephrasing it to PG-13 π
Haven't found that piece of the set yet
I specifically don't drink the elixir, and haven't on... 5 characters
working on a 6th but anyways
Yes, it does add a "flag" to your character, in the sense it triggers a quest and will tell you to "talk to the alchemist"
I have no idea if they will make a specific "you drank elixir and now have to deal with ___" thing, but mostly it's just "Elixir is really not good for you and turns you into a scavenger" so I don't drink it.
plus they nerfed it and now it's not worth drinking anyways
Pretty sure I only ever used it once when I wasn't sure what it was yet
it's not like its that bad to drink it, but the alchemist will mention that there is a "bit of madness in your eyes" when you drink it
ha. that madness was there wayyy before.
yeah but the alchemist couldn't see it until you drank the elixir, so clearly the elixir is alcohol and we're bad at hiding our emotions when tipsy
Well there's good crazy and bad crazy. Don't want the bad crazy
It increases your damage against fell, so by not drinking it are you the bad guy? π€
No fishmalks, please.
it used to increase your damage against everything by 30%... I miss when it was tempting
even though I didn't use it
This also explains why the scavs can apparently write just fine but speak in slurred gibberish
we still have no idea what Vorgoth drank that makes him levitate though, lol
Same thing as banshees
the banshees are full on mushroom-fell-transformations though
it's like how somehow the one archer guy ||Talion|| turned into a fell-brute... or at least was defeated by one and thus had his bow stolen by a fell brute?
since his bow is also fellified, I will assume he turned into one.
...how does the shroud... shroud a bow...
I'm thinking about it too much
Boar Juice.
Magic fungus be doing magic fungus things
sure, magic fungus and boar juice, I will accept these answers and not think about this anymore before I go crazy
also I kinda hope that boar juice gets a reference in the game someday
