i think the problem is most actors know shit all about the lore of their comic roles/book roles.
so the actor is largely putting trust into other people on the set, the writers/director.
which i don't think in itself is a problem, not every actor can know everything.
but i think when an actor does know the lore of something, and they see the producers or management is pushing dumb shit, and the movie is sidelining a really nerdy writer and not using his/her ideas. the actor should give power to the nerd, by saying actually i wont do this unless we follow the nerds idea.
but not all actors have that power either, they might sign away their rights to anything. whereas other actors can really control the whole movie.

depends on the remake, and the timespan. if its been 40 years since that movie, then a remake is probably good for a newer generation to appreciate. also old movies were limited by practical special effects... yes you might prefer them, and we could use more practical special effects today, but it's still a limitation. you can't create grand cities, or extreme fantasy or scifi things as well as you can and with the freedom that you can today. so some of those movies that rely heavily on that can be remade. dune and frankenstein both come to mind for both these reasons.
there are also different things in a certain movie a director/writers might want to focus on in a remake. a different style or artistic expression within the same movie that was overlooked or not expressed the first time.
IT probably deserved a remake. the issue isn't really that we shouldn't have remakes, the issue is that people just suck at doing them. either bad casting, or they get so lost in the amazing special effects today that the story has no substance and its all special effects or whatever.

yeah i didn't realize it was a series, so yeah a series format could actually be a nice reason to do harry potter, and it allows even for episodic format episodes, even if you have a story arc, you can even throw some filler episodes in.
