What did u dislike abt mass effect?
i dunno, barely played it, but most people love it.
ya
And story
Dont see that very often
Is both fun?
I will probally get both the games thanks guys
Should i first play tf1? If it exists
no story, it was purely online versus stuff.
TF2 has a standalone story.
then instead of giving us a TF3 with co-op we got some shitty extraction shooter or battle royal or something with NO mechs and NO lightning fast bunny hopping LIKE WHY EVEN?!!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYY
So tf2 only one worth my time?
Yes got it thanks for the input
Holy hell he's still working on it
That's what, over a decade late now?
Thats just the single dev life
Nah, Camelot Unchained has a long, troubled history beyond the foibles of being a solo dev
arrr
But also it wasn't a solo dev, it was a case of being poorly managed mixed with off the charts scope creep
Not enough playable goblin
At one point they had a 20 person dev team
I say "he's still working on it" because Mark Jacobs is infamously the face of the whole thing
i didnt get into the hype for that game. >_>
Deep Rock was/is a great time, especially with a group
One of the easiest games to find one for too, just hop on their discord and there's almost always someone up for a run or two
The DRG survivor game is pretty great too
i dunno, i didnt enjoy the caves and bugs.
Ah. Yeah, that's like 90% of the game xD
DRG survivors is a really fun pick up and play game. Quality take on the whole "survivor" genre
(ie Vampire Survivors etc)
Deeprock! Dwarves, Coop, classes, bugs, humor. Classic combo!
also, it has dwarves without beards and I am not comfortable with that.
then use one that has one?
but I see YOUR character without it!
oh hrmmm
beardists...
i dont know what to tell you other than its 2025
you could just go in the discord and ask for beard groups only
im sure you can find other people like you

Isn't CoH still a thing?
i think so?
Technically it shut down, I believe any servers that are running aren't actually supported
Just not sure why they're going back to that well when even CoH in it's heyday only had a middling response. Good for fans of that particular niche I suppose
Yeah, just seemed like yet another MMO project trying to recapture the magic of an old MMO without evolving it meaningfully
But hey maybe it'll be good and new!
The preview image doesn't instill a lot of hope in me xD
A problem with any legally distinct superhero game is that I imagine there's TONS of copyright crap you'd have to go through if you wanted players to be able to make heroes that look anything like any DC/Marvel heroes.
So they're always going to have to look like crappy off-brand heroes, which is gonna lower the appeal
I mean, it goes deeper than that even. Like, it wasn't as bad when CoH was around because Marvel and DC were less legally minded, but with Disney and WB involved now you not only have appearances to consider but also certain powers. IIRC in its later days CoH was actually having issues with certain available abilities and powers being too similar to famous counterparts
yeah
Which is a minefield for a game like this
Like, imagine there's a particular power that's really good and a lot of players like it, but one day you have to completely remove it because of a DMCA
i dont think you can copyright powers
You can copy the "brand" of a character, and when that's directly tied to the superpowers they have, it can get pretty muddy.
the brand of a character is made up of more than just powers
i can have a character with all the powers of the superman, but not superman
That won't stop a particularly litigous company from trying, especially when that company has a competing superhero-based game
And it tends to be fairly easy for those big companies to stifle smaller ones with loads of cash
look outside comic books, magical games have relatively the same magic powers
No one is arguing that it's correct to do it, but it definitely does happen.
im sure i can find similar spells in diablo, that i can find in titan quest 2, that i can find in POE, that I can find in skyrim.
that we can find in BG3
You must have missed the OGL war that happened a couple years ago.
Lots of stuff from Pathfinder got changed because it was too similar to things in D&D
really, i didn't notice
I mean, these aren't hypotheticals. Both Marvel/DIsney and DC/WB went after City of Heroes because the powers were too similar in their opinions. Whether they won or not, the cost of fighting it in court makes it prohibitive
played the game before and after that war, didn't notice any changes lol
Oh, BG3 didn't make any changes. D&D is the big dog, Pathfinder made a lot of changes, basically remastered their entire system to get rid of anything that could potentially be construed as OGL-protected
if they lose they pay your legal fees, punitive damages etc. if you think you can win, fight it in court. it's free eventually.
But it's not free while it's happening
yeah i meant i dont remember the changes in pathfinder
Sure but you still have to pay those legal fees first, while also maintaining MMO servers
And a lot of smaller companies don't have the funds to fight a legal giant like Disney, who can draw out the legal battle until your company goes under
Judgements in those cases can take months/years
Lots of little stuff. "Magic Missile" is now called "Force Bolt", etc etc. Lots of monsters are no longer in pathfinder, or they're renamed to be "legally distinct"
I mean, again these aren't hypotheticals. It happened with COH and it's part of the reason they eventually shut down (along with a waning player base)
City of Heroes is still around with City of Heroes Homecoming servers being the official ones right now. They made a deal with NCSoftand have permission to run them.
or the TV show the boys
Ah, see I thought it was still going, though I knew Cryptic wasn't running it any more
i'm still correct, since you're making new arguments here
Those disputes could have been settled behind closed doors, or hashed out before the content was created. Just because we don't know about it doesn't mean a deal wasn't made.
you're saying bullies will win, that wasn't my argument
my argument is what is legal
it's not my fault the justice system is corrupt and money based
thats a different matter
I mean, your argument wasn't the point of what I was saying in the first place. What I was saying is that it's a problem, not that they're in their legal right
this makes me miss DCUO
- Pathfinder's Connection:
Pathfinder is a roleplaying game made by Paizo and is directly built on the OGL from D&D 3.5. When Wizards of the Coast made changes to the OGL (particularly with the introduction of D&D 4th edition), Paizo created Pathfinder using the OGL from D&D 3.5. So, it was essentially a way for Pathfinder to continue using the same basic game mechanics that D&D 3.5 used but without needing Wizards’ permission.
In other words, Pathfinder was born from the OGL — using the license that allowed content creators to legally use D&D's open content (rules, mechanics, etc.) to create new games.
this is a direct copyright issue though
so you gave me a pretty bad faith example lol
you used an actual copyright issue and spun it as they were just doing their own thing minding their own business and DND went after them.
Champion Online was fun!
I particularly just liked the pvp a lot in DCUO
There was a fun skill ceiling in learning animation cancels with all the different combinations of powers/fighting style/movement style
Yeah, I liked Champions' character/build customization a lot, DCUO didn't hook me because I didn't want to make a character that was themed after one of the main DC heroes (or a combination of them), and the character creation felt like that's all it was.
I understand that
I don't think they were themed after the heroes themselves
But you def had different archetypes
Super speed vs flying vs acrobatic
So maybe you could associate that to flash/superman/batman
Yeah, it may just have been the way the character creation was presented. It felt like "Oh, do you want to be batman gadget 'powers' or superman 'powers'"
Like, it felt like you were just creating a derivative character
I def went control acrobatics with katana lmao
Or 1h sword. I cant remember the exact weapon
CoH really did that well. The creator was robust enough that you could make a lot of wild combinations
I understand why they did what they did in DCUO because it had to balance classes for pvp
Using a rock paper scissors
I always liked the Energy Blasts in CoH because when you "missed" an attack, your character would randomly turn and shoot the blasts off at a weird angle. It looked so silly, like my man how did you miss that bad.
The one aspect i really thought was awesome in DCUO versus other mmos was tying skill points to achievements
Versus actual levels
Yeah that's interesting. I feel like "leveling" has become too much of a standard mechanism in games
So many people seem to think it's the only way to do progression
Agreed... like getting an X amount of skillpoints from leveling is cool.. but then if you really wanted more you had to do different content to unlock it
and for some of it.. do it really well to unlock said achievement so it really pushes people to do well
or just be okay with not being the strongest on the server XD
Yeah it's interesting thinking about how horizontal progression and power scaling works. Like, vertical progression exists because it's an easy way to provide the player with a feeling of power increases, but when creating a sustainable game, how much content is wasted by bypassing old things that you've progressed past?
Like in a narrative game or a pseudo-linear one like Enshrouded it makes sense to have vertical progression as you move through the game
interesting game

there's only so many ways to redo "shoot energy bolr" and you cant copywrite super strength or flight!
Yeah, something I've always wanted a hero game to allow is dyeing of your abilities. Like if you choose "Shoot energy bolt" you can color it however you want.
ya
i had mild fun with the DC one back in the day, was a bow guy trained by batman, but got bored of it quick i guess
the city of heroes homecoming servers do allow that
Yeah, I've heard good things about it, one of my friends enjoys it.
it is alot of fun. very nostalgic and they are even adding in new content.
So there's this guy on YT I follow, Ordinary Sausage. He makes comedy videos where he does weird stuff with cooking and rates it. Like a recent example is he made a sausage out of banana pudding (yes it had pork in it) or making alfredo with grape soda as the liquid. Fun times. One of his bits is he would sing a song while grinding the sausage in a comedic voice, and replace one of the words with "sausage" (example: Singing Dancing Queen but it's Sausage Queen). He recently had to stop because he got a copyright strike from WB because they claimed he was using one of their copyrighted works. Sure, he could fight it, sure he would probably eventually win, but ultimately he just stopped doing the bit
So like, sure not saying you're wrong, but that doesn't make it any less a problem

Unfortunately it's supposed to be over tomorrow. Technically it was going to be ended on the 4th but they extended it to give players more time to explore the mechanics and get more feedback
Bummer, it was completely under my radar
It looks very similar, yeah. I've been watching a bit if content on it.
It's a pleasntly unexpected direction coming from Green Hell
It looks pretty good, I always have trouble with factory games though. I want to play multiplayer, but factory games multiplayer are meh

Interesting. You almost never hear about games set in ancient Korea. Japan, China, Europe, sure
I am ok with this. Love seeing all the different ancient myths from each nation.
Mythology is one of my favorite settings, no matter where it's based
mythology is super cool.
we need more animated films based off stuff from around the world instead of just rehashing british folklore over and over and over.
Have you seen K-pop demon hunters?
A lot of it is drawn directly from korean mythology
for those who waited, and do actually want the game, Civ 7 is 30% off in that 4x sale.
Its kinda interesting that Civ 7 didnt seem to get that much traction. It released and everyone in my gaming discords kind of stopped talking about it after a week
TBF after like 5 they've effectively been graphics updates. At this point there's only so much you can add to Civ
So there's a silly thing going on right now (internet thing), where people are flipping out because Mafia: The Old Country doesn't have swimming mechanics, with roughly half the people bemoaning that an open world game in 2025 doesn't have swimming, and the other half going "why would a mafia game need swimming", and it resulted in one of my favorite comments
One guy was like "The most common question after releasing a trailer is "does the game have day/night mechanics?". I'm convinced for the majority of games day/night mechanics only exist to spare PR people from murder charges"
So many games have day/night mechanics that are functionally worthless.
But also a mafia game needs swimming so you can send people to sleep with the fishes, as is the mafia way
Yeah, but they aren't swimming in those cases xD
So technically it just needs sinking mechanics
boat.
mafia games need construction sites
so you can bury people in cement slabs used for the foundation of the building,
it might be why construction sites today all mostly have cameras
though funny story few years ago i wandered onto a construction site with no cameras and no fence
and the building seemed to be a future storage site, and in the middle was a giant safe, probably as big as 150 square feet. so i was inside the safe.
so i mean i could have planned a heist lol a few months before they added actual security and stuff
and raided the safe, it was funny how it was all open during construction
A lot of the security on construction sites stem from materials being stolen and as well to watch workers. They want to watch the workers so if an accident occurs they can track source of what caused it.
Depending on the site they use a lot of copper for pipes and in the wiring. Melted down our turned in for scrap brings a lot of $

Man, modern games journalists don't do fact checking at all anymore, do they
This isn't true. I mean the screenshot is true, a user on reddit had a conflict with vanguard when they tried to launch the game, but this seems to be a local settings issue, because most people with valoant installed didn't have this issue.
Only one of that ive noted actually cites their sources which is sad
The issue is Riot's anti-cheat software — Riot Vanguard. Vanguard is a kernel-level anti-cheat, which means it runs with the same privileges as does the Windows operating system — going beyond even your admin account. At this level, anti-cheat software can catch potential exploits before they take effect, because it can see and intercept far more than you can from user space.
This is also not true, man this article was written lazily lol.
I'm being extra harsh on it maybe because I have a background in anti-cheat, my last job was an anti-cheat analyst, so I know a lot about how this stuff works. But this conflict was a problem with EA's anti-cheat, not Vanguard. Vanguard has fairly industry standard permissions, the main thing that makes it a bit more invasive than some other anti-cheats is that it launches at startup, rather than when you boot the game, which some users worry is a privacy risk. But it is not operating on a different level than any other kernel level anti-cheat out there.
You're telling me that tomshardware.com isn't a reliable news source for gaming news? What world are we living in?
Also is anyone surprised at this point that a journalist took a single reddit post and extrapolated it to a huge problem without doing any fact checking?
is that a joke? wasnt toms hardware good at one point for technical issues?
i mean they arent a gaming site, but they are covering a "technical" issue
I guess I'm a little surprised that they'd write such a bold title without even bothering to check if the claim they are making in their title is true lol. But yeah games journalists don't have a good track record by any means
from what ive seen they have taken a more political look on games especially with the subnautica 2 controversy
they didnt fact check their articles for that controversy either
Sensationalism has been in for a decade or more now XD
Anything that generates traffic = good
Yeah I guess the misleading title annoyed me into clicking on it lol
You've been had
Haha
I rest easy knowing that 99% of readers don't know anything about anti-cheat, though, so I imagine that ragebait was not intentional by them
That has definitely been a main topic about BF6 in general
Yeah I mean cheating in an online competitive game is always gonna be a big concern.
Whether its 300k cheaters caught or "look at all these cheaters day 1"
Doesn't matter how many you catch if the community thinks the game is full of them
The risks/problems with kernel level anti-cheats are WILDLY blown out of proportion by gamers.
And the prevelence of cheaters is also wildly underestimated. I think people would be shocked to see just how many cheaters there are in any of your favorite fps games, and only a tiny, tiny, fraction of those cheaters ever make it past the anti-cheat. But even when 95% of them get instantly caught, that 5% can cause a lot of chaos.
so is the article saying anything factually wrong, or it is just the title? i find articles now a days have two categories.
title is so short that it can be interpreted in ways that are misinformation but the article elaborates and adds the details. so clickbait title, but decent article.
or both the title and article are misinformation.
The problem is cheating is getting harder for the naked eye to tell due to how sophisticated its getting so its like false flags everywhere. You have Asmongold putting out content about people cheating when they aren't haha
The only real complaint about it that I heard is that my buddy had to do some bios setting change to get the beta to work
Both in this case, the article itself has a lot of misinfo inside it.
I think there were things in the beta that FELT like cheating (people getting on top of buildings, etc), but were actually just relatively easy 'exploits'
Yeah. Secure boot which should be enabled already on Win 11
So its a lot of win 10 people complaining
Yeah, my buddy only complained that he had to do it, not that it was really a problem
Probably to enable secure boot or something right?
It's annoying, but it makes a HUGE difference. Even back when I worked on anti-cheat a few years ago, everyone in the industry was toying with the idea of enforcing secure boot, because it stops the main exploit that cheaters use to bypass kernel level anti-cheats.
When I worked on it, we couldn't realistically enforce it. It pissed too many people off for a smaller game like ours to try to force them, they'd just leave negative reviews. But bigger games have started enforcing it, like valorant and now BF6.
Yeah, with it being automatic with Win11 helps too
windows 11 has secure boot on automatically/default?
Most valid complaints i heard... maps too small. Gun balance. Tool balances. Which is all subjective
Yeah, 90% of the big cheating problem the industry has had for the last decade is because of windows 10 lol. There's a lot of stuff Windows should have given devs the option to enforce that they don't, like secure boot. In Win11 they seem to have realized this.
Yeah
most things i heard complained about bF6 are things that being a beta i would expect, and it will be added later.
I put in a solid 10 hours or so into the beta and had fun but its definitely just more BF
I dont see this whole return to form because its literally the same as before XD
I mean that's exactly what most people want 😝
My biggest complaint with bf6 is the way the helicopters fly. I have no idea what they did to the flight physics but I hate it lol
But I still had a lot of fun in that beta
My biggest complaint is that it's not Titanfall 3, but 🤷♀️
Yeah. Again. Sensationalism to generate traffic
Well it did break 500k concurrent, which is pretty good
I do agree on tool balance. They need to adjust engineer repairing
It's a return to form compared to 2042 haha
like these, all seem normal things to be missing in a beta https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield/s/abN8apBVeL
It feels more like it belongs in the series
Bc having for engi's on a tank is actually super annoying and silly
i heard joke that cod players biggest complaint, is no kill streak mechanics.
and that a cod player has same complaint for every game
That's pretty standard battlefield fare tbh, pocket engineers on vehicles has always been really OP
because they want every game to become cod
Yeah but having 4 of them makes it close to impossible to kill
The RPG ammo change was kinda nice to counter it
I remember in battlefield 3, you could fly the little bird helicopter, and an engineer could sit in one of the side seats and repair it while you were flying
So you were basically this super fast, nimble air vehicle, with constant health regeneration. It was wild lol
But that still requires 5x engineers to simultaneously shoot a rpg
repairing a vehicle should be hard and maybe lucky 1 or 2 time thing
BF3 repair sounds cartoonish
Again slight adjustment. Its probably already been done like the recoil change that didn't make it into the beta
I hope we see it this weekend
I liked how battlebit did vehicle health/repairs. Vehicles were fairly tanky to start with, but as they took damage, they'd start to take basically like... permanent damage? So after a certain point you could no longer repair all the health lost.
Basically prevented the infinite repair unkillable vehicle problem.
i wouldnt make repair health based
That sounds awesome
Yeah that's kinda how Dune does it's repairs. Like each time you lose a bit of max health
if i designed a game, there would be components or something, so engine, gun, turret control etc.
I cant wait to test Brooklyn this week
the repair makes it functional, but you lose some stats on how it operates, and it gains no health back.
I mean there's some more simulator type games like war thunder that do that, but in a fast paced game it doesn't work very well to have that much complexity.
Again, that's how Dune does it, each piece has health
I also hope we get more than 1 map
Yeah. I dont think anyone wants sim in BF
Its just turn brain off fun
Milsim games are already abundant at this point, yeah. I don't think battlefield needs to be one
its not too much complexity, tank just needs engines, gun, and turret motor, maybe some armor panel patches you can weld on. the idea is your not repairing while engaged with 30 soldiers, and 2 tanks, you're falling back to get the repairs done.
Like milsim battlefield is basically exactly what Squad is, lol
Yeah. Very fun game btw haha
repairing while fighting another tank = cartoon game
I also love Hell let Loose
the head prodcuer already replied that these streamlines maps in the beta are just for that. To test huge numbers of people in tight combat. He said the big maps are in the game, just not out yet.
Which is exactly why I'm not preordering lol
like if peoples HP on tanks is regenerating while simultaenously damaging each other, seems cartoonish to me.
Im pretty sure its gonna be a sub to EA for a month to play before my friends and I eventually move on haha
nothing really to pre-order anyways, unless you get the ultimate release. Just buy it now and wait till sept.
Oh yeah I forgot that EA does the sub thing
I might do that too, I don't usually play battlefield games for longer than a couple months
$17 for EA Play Pro which gives access to the Phantom Edition
If anyone buys games like that they aren't allowed to complain about us doing cosmetic twitch drops anymore
Def sounds like the play. $17 isnt bad for a month of BF haha

At one point it looks like they used a flaming arrow to set the enemy's wooden shield on fire, which forced the enemy to drop the shield. If that's a mechanic that's pretty awesome
Yeah. The NY map I was talking about. Was hoping we got another with it
While this looks cool and I enjoy having new weapons... Im definitely going to miss having stance dancing for different enemies. That was my favorite part of the flow of GoT
They're getting rid of the stance system in Yotei?
Hm. Yeah more weapons isn't bad but the stance system really added a lot of depth to the combat
I kind of don't understand why they couldn't keep it but also add weapons

Jump Space (formerly Jump Ship) looks pretty great
Yeah I like the look of it a lot more that Wildgate
Yeah. The PvP focus of Wildgate make the pve feel meh
The thing I like about Wildgate is that while pvpcentric you can totally win on a pve strat
The fact they had to rebrand due to a trademark issue flew under my radar
My only concern is that the game looks pve only so longevity relies on how good the AI is
There is no evolving gameplay
Development studio Keepsake Games announced the name change in a Steam post, assuring readers that the rebranding does not affect the game's release plans, and adding that a date announcement for its early access launch is coming this month at Gamescom. The title's Steam listing currently displays a release window of Q3 2025.
The studio, which was formed by veterans from Mojang, Hazelight Studios, and Coffee Stain Studios, stated that the new name is the result of "trademark complications." Keepsake's post does not go into detail about the complications. "Jump ship" is a fairly common idiom, but any company or product sharing the name could be the reason for a trademark dispute.

Man mass effect is pretty fun. Unlike that valheim game.
Obvious troll is obvious
mass effect 1 was not fun
the whole landing on a planet, might as well have been developed back in 1997
Gameplay
Cпуск на планету и перемещение по планете.
absolutely horrible
mass effect 2 was okay, skipped 1 and i went right to 2, since it corrected this problem.
Also, to wit:
The Mako from Mass Effect 1 is definitely a mechanic that shows its age, heh.
I remember it feling janky w hen ME came out originally, but it was charming/fun jank
the planet stuff was way better in ME2
mass effect 1 had everything beside the planet stuff as good
Definitely
I wonder what Valheim did to Jrose to hurt them so bad. Its like living rent free in their head XD
the world may never know.

Len's Island must have just had a release, I saw Peon doing a video about it
I've had that game for a couple years, yeah the farming is pretty convenient, just not sure how it would work for Enshrouded, though being able to plant a plot at a time would be nice

Sad fact is I actually really wantedf to play that. it looked like fun!
The Tencent Horizon knock-off survival? Yeah same, it actually looked really good
And doubly so with Sony abandoning the idea
Stupidest idea to abandon IMO. I'd love a horizon survival game.
so they abandoned their game then sued someone else for copying their now non existent game?
i mean.. i can't just make a Mario game using Mario and call it Maorio
No, you need to call it Wuriom
Basically. Sony and Tencent were in a deal to make a Horizon survival, Sony backed out, Tencent sent them a pitch deck basically asking for the rights to go ahead with it, Sony said no, so Tencent did the "bro lemmie copy your homework" method and called it something like Light of Motarim
Man. bleep sony. bleep sony so hard.
i mean, i hate tencent too, but come on.
cries in Runic Games Studio
they should have tried a lil bit harder to not blantantly use the IP
proooobably
I mean, it's hard to find a sympathetic company in the situation. Sony sucks for cancelling the project, Tencent sucks for doing what Chinese developers do and going "Copyright? Property? What are these strange words?"
coughwarcraftcough
Yeah, they skirted legality in that situation because Tarisland, while extremely derivitive, was entirely it's own thing. In this case, Sony has documents showing that not only were they working with Sony on this very, very similar looking property, they actually asked for permission and got declined
see, that's where they messed up.
they asked.
better to ask for forigiveness than permission.
I mean, better to change it more than just giving the protagonist a slightly different haircut and eyeshadow
Like, the "changes" were extremely superficial and lazy at best
i like those
those are both terrible names XD
could you imagine if a game like that was so lazy they just called it gun? 🤣
thats why they're so good!
CALL OF BATTLE!
XD
raiden? that you?
haha
I played that game so hard back in the day xD
what game?
(Gunz: The Duel)
its not out yet
It's an update of a very, very old multiplayer shooter
But it was awesome because it had knives and katanas and wall running and a whole lot of mobility you don't usually see in shooters
im surprised I didnt play SFTX more, it was GOOD
titanfall 2 is under appreciated.
Spicy gunz highlights, enjoy the show and let me know what you think down below !
server : https://www.igunz.net
Original was like, around 2003 I think? And after the company screwed up and went under it's been running on private servers since. Neat to see it make a comeback but I doubt I have the reflexes for it any more xD
A large part of the higher level gameplay is using a combination of wall jumps, walls runs, animation cancelling and rapid weapon switching to achieve those kind of twitchy movements
so titanfall
IIRC it was called "butterfly technique"
i never got good at titanfall 2 but damn it was good.
Titanfall with a Crunchyroll subscription, kinda yeah
freaking weebs
I mean, weeb was implied with the katanas xD But at the time it was a really fun game (until you ran into some Jaoanese dude who would get on a demolish eveeyone in 0.3 seconds)
Mam, I can't believe Project Gorgon is still kicking around. I remember seeing that on MPOGD back in like 2000
Then again a lot of those project titles were bought by Asian studios and put on to other things. Bless Online and Aion were two examples
And TBF the original studios were probably never going to release anything

What do yall think abt gamscom have not seen to many interesting games for me
Same. It's hype for a lot of people between Silksong, Fallout, and COD but I'm not personally into those
I guess Silksong is kinda cool because Hollow Knight was a good game, but it's been so long since the last one I can't help but feel skeptical
Yeah, I think Sony did their own thing for that
They dropped something for it like a week or two ago
As much as I hate to say it because it became a bloated mess, I kinda miss E3. You used to be able to get all the news and trailers from one show, now every major company and dev have their own directs while the smaller one do shows like Gamescom

If you like Metroidvanias it's worth your time
Its a souls like no?
There are only a few must play metrodvanias... and thats one of them
Ehhh... sort of, in the sense that is has slower, more deliberate combat
Im also going to play elden ring i got a lot of games still to play but i have accses to hollow knight so its on my to play list for sure
It's more metroidvania, as in you explore and fight to gain new powers that let you unlock new areas etc
Is it co-op?
It's really good, and being 8 years old it goes on sale really cheap
My friend has it and i have his ps account so i could play it at any moment
What do we know about the dlc?
I just saw a cool video did not really pay attention lol
@severe jetty Dead Cells is another good metroidvania if you end up enjoying the genre
Which DLC?
And yeah, Dead Cells is pretty great

MS hasn't had the greatest track record with Windows updates lately
And right after people were hyped about them finally fixing dark mode, too
and right when we are weeks away from big file games releasing
im sorry. WHAT
looking like the latest windows update is making SSDs disappear if they are moving 50GB of data or higher onto the SSD.
so downloading new video games.
Well it seems to affect win11
if you have one of the SSDs on the list, yep
@misty arch just rolled back, ty
That's why you never update anything until they force you to 😝
im still on w10
im building a new pc next year and im pretty sure OS codes only work once so why buy w11 twice. i dont want to upgrade at all.....
Yeah but by a year from now running W10 will be a huge security risk because there won't be support againt new hacks and exploits
ya i suppose. hoping to have a new pc by then. by uh.... spring 2026....>_>
I'd say take advantage of the free upgrades MS is offering to W10 users and get it over with now
Then you don't have to buy it at all, just use your current license
really? i never saw a free offer.
Yeah, MS has been doing that to encourage users to switch from 10 to 11 specifically because they're ending support and how big the security risks are
They're extending security updates, but they've flat out said they're going through with end-of-life for W10, which means security support
Like IMHO get the upgrade over with now, that way your license is still good and you can just transfer it over to your new PC
Plus like it says there, you can make a bootable USB thumb drive so you can do the clean install on your new PC
does clean install mean whiping ALL my files or something else?
Basically that. Doing a fresh install on a new drive or wiping an existing drive
ah.
You can update without doing a fresh install, but for a new PC a fresh install is recommended
Typically what I do is I'll keep my existing drive and buy a new one for the new PC. The old drive becomes a storage with my files on it, the new one is my main OS drive
why do we even need a w11? 😭
I'm with you, I was pretty content with Win10
id happily use w7 if i could. i skipped right over 8.
I've gotten used to 11 but 10 was fantastic
8 was trash. I skipped it too but a buddy of mine had Windows 8 on his music recording PC and I'd go over to jam a lot
We actually had a track he named "I hate Windows 8" xD
sounds about right.
my latest SKYRIM purchase, a carpet to keep my feet warm under my pc desk @ AliXpress
Sick
they had a nvidia driver that caused BSODS on windows 11
nobody made a video when i thought my GPU i just bought was dying
then i discover on my own it's the dumb driver
what the hell is a phizon controller based NvME ssd
who the hell is phizon never heard of them before
if you're not buying western digital or samsung you got a problem already.
WD is one of the ones that is having problems....
He just says Phison
Phison is a controller inside of SSDs that a long list of SSD manufacturers use. It's a component not its own device
and they dont have controllers in Samsung?
The samsung ones are not affected by the update issue
He explains the list in the video
Of course they have controllers, they just aren't affected
i have no issues, i get window updates the second they come out and my hard drives are fine though. i guess i didn't install any large games yet though.
almost tempted to uninstall and reinstall baldurs gate 3 and see what happens
If you haven't had an issue, don't try to force one. This can corrupt your hard drive and that's a waste of a good drive. If your device is on the list, it's just safest to rollback to the last update and wait to see if a new update happens soon
If they aren't on the list, then don't worry for now
they cant really test ssds from 5 years ago though
like all the SSDs on the market in the last 5 years, it would be a lot of SSDs to test
They tested the Samsung 870s and those were 4 years ago. They are testing a lot of them.
If your device is on the list or isn't, safest bet is to roll back the update. Takes like 4 minutes and you don't lose anything for it
They haven't done complete extensive testing, the ones on the list of affected drives are just the drives they know about so far
And in some cases they say like, WD Blue 1.0 TB. That doesn't necessarily mean only the 1TB and the 2TB is fine, that just means they got a result on the 1TB
It's still a new issue so the list isn't comprehensive or complete
The 2TB was one that had issues. 1TB was okay though.
In some cases, but not every case
The list is effectively what they've been able to test and get a result on after rounds of testing
I mean you called out the WD Blue and I'm just letting you know they specifically said the 2TB had issues but the 1TB was fine.
Yeah, bad example on my part, I just fired one off from memory xD
I mean, most people should roll back to be safe, but so far, we Samsung people got lucky (who knows if that will keep up).
Yeah. It also seems to be a conditional thing, apparently it especially affects drives writing a large number of files when the drive is over 60% full
From memory

Michael Myers Returns to Haddonfield. Check out the Halloween trailer for the upcoming asymmetric stealth horror game with single and multiplayer modes from developer and publisher IllFonic, co-published by Gun Interactive, and in partnership with Compass International Pictures and Further Front. Halloween will be available on Xbox Series X|S, P...
Halloween is a franchise I feel like has been jogging in place since the early 2000s (maybe before)
(it's kind of cringe)
The first movie and maybe H20 were decent. Like not even groundbreaking, just decent. Then it went through that period in the 80s where it wanted to be a weird anthology series with different stories every year
Which was a cool idea but wasn't implemented well
Then they gave that up and just decided to be a knock-off Freddie/Jason franchise but without the charm of either
Like Jason had a good deal of suspense and also creative ways he would dispatch his victims, while Freddie had Robert Englund chewing the scenery and making puns with great practical effects. Halloween didn't really do either, like it had a bit of the suspense aspect but Michael Meyers was just a boring horror villain
I've never really been big on halloween movies, I dunno why
Maybe just a bit too tropey
That's kinda my thing. Like they're all tropey but the other two franchises have a certain charm to them Halloween just doesn't. It plays things too up front and face value and it just feels kind of boring. I'd much rather watch a Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th movie, even the really cheesy ones
Like for as campy as they got, movies like Jason X (Friday the 13th, but in space XD) and Freddie vs Jason had their cheesy "so bad it's kinda good" qualities
There was no charisma or character to Michael Meyers, he just stands there like an old board for most of the movie
i just find slasher flicks absolutely disgusting.
it's not horror so much that bothers me as much as "let's make a movie murdering innocent people." and the following trends of "how messed up can we make these deaths?"
and i've gotten a lot of responses to this that im the weird one. like, im weird for being grossed out by horrific murder?
Nah, I understand it. Personally I really like practical film effects and when I watch one of those movies I'm very aware that I'm watching a movie and I'm looking for the cool ways they use props and makeup. I've fallen out with recent slasher movies because of the heavy reliance on CGI
Like the movie The Thing from the 80s was pretty amazing if you like visual effects, and like in Aliens for one of the xenomorphs they had a guy crab walking backwards in costume to get the effect of the creature walking in a strange, alien way. Things like that are cool to me xD
ya, that I can get.
honestly though most people just like the fore or "i like being scared" which makes no sense and I'm just convinced most humans are psychopaths.
also i always needed to be reminded that ghostbusters is a horror franchise. at least with the first two, I aint touching the new ones.
I've always seen Ghostbusters as a comedy first and foremost, though I remember being creeped out by Vigo the Carpathian when I was a kid
i mean, ya, i guess he was a bit creepy.
ghost train... i hate jumpscares
bloody hate that scene in the indian and the cubboard.
Jump scares can be done well, but since around the late 80s filmmakers have forgotten how to use them with subtlety and just go "BOO ...gotcha" without a point
And it's just as annoying as if you had someone at work sneak up on you and do the same thing
oh, another kind of scene I hate, i forget the term, but like, that scene in ms doubtfire, where robin exposes himself and the truth is found out. so painful to watch
Yeah. The kids would call it "cringe"
or secondhand embaressment
But speaking of jump scares, they're done well when they're used sparingly (maybe only once in a movie) as a way to build and release tension. Like a scene early in the movie where they build up a little suspense like something is about to happen, then have a jump scare and immediately lighten the mood. It helps for a tonal shift but also it mentally works you up for the actual suspense later in the movie and makes it feel more intense
In modern films they don't do that, they'll have tension, jump scare, followed by more tension, and without any kind of payoff it just becomes annoying/teasing the audience and kills the suspense rather than enhancing it
oh ya the, suspense, you think murder, no it just another victim, and then later, actually die.
Or like you think there's going to be something around that corner, but it turns out to just be a dog. Then the characters leave for another scene but the camera lingers and there actually was something down there the characters don't know about yet
That's a good jump scare
oh ya that too.
It sets a tone for suspense and gives it a chance to build and release, but establishes that it's still there. From that point the film can let the suspense build slowly until it bubbles over
im not sure there's too many proper horror (nonslaher) movies I could get into.
I do enjoy a bit of liminal space horror, liminal spaces are fascinating.
Older horror/suspense movies did it really well. Hitchcock was great at it
also army of darkness kicked ass.
no, hitchcock sucks.
freaking scarred me for life.
Anything with Bruce Campbell is certified awesome xD
Another movie with great practical effects
i wont ever watch evil dead but army of darkness? great movie.
Evil Dead was good but it wasn't quite gold like AoD was xD
whoa, that looks weird with the higher, resolution and stuff.
but man, I LOVE that line.
Shop smart, shop S-Mart
God, what was that, right, HALO TWO. Halo two has soooooooooooo many damn good quotable lines.
SHIP MASTER! BRUTE SHIPS! THEY OUTNUMBER THREE TO ONE!
Then it is an even fight. BURN THEIR MONGREL HIDES.
We had sticks! two sticks and a rock! and we had to shaaare the rock!
dear humanity, we regret coming to earth, we regret being ugly alien ass bastards, and we most certainly regret that the core just blue up our ragedy ass fleet!
so the reason why halo 2 looked like shit is that they wanted to do dynamic shadows like Doom 3 but they ran out of time so the models didnt work with the half baked lighting.
this is an interesting way to think of it
Also, I love the Halloween series as in the originals. I grew up on slashers as a kid
Who doesn't like being scared?
the rush of adrenaline
not really
you're right, i think i mean sociopath.
being scared is awful.
if I want adreneline i'll do extreme sports.
i dont think so, its just another emotion
no
there are good emotions, and bad emotions
its just a movie
so?
ya well i could film actual horrible events and lie about them being fake.
you sure could until someone figured it out i guess
or not
there's obviously an audience for that too
and people would "enjoy" them, and suddenly it's bad when the truth comes out.
i dont think rollecoasters are the same as horror movies
ya, and those people are sick in the head.
i don't even think there is a thrill in horror movies
roller coasters are VERY different.
not really
horror movies are a bit like scifi movies in that they are social commentary on society really.
IDK, again for me I don't really get scared by them, I'm more into the practical effects and the general artistry of it (not to sound pretentious xD). When I watched my first slasher movie (Friday the 13th part 3 XD) I was at a friend's house and the entire time the friend's dad was pointing out all the different effects and explaining how they did it to put it into context, and i remember just thinking how cool it was they could do all that and make it look so (for the time) real
they are actually valuable, but people dont recognize the value as much as scifi usually
but it depends, it has to be a well done horror movie
Exorcist was pretty creepy. Linda Blair really sold it
Exorcist, Poltergeist, IT, Blade Runner, all the old classics.
and then proceeded to grab flashlights
and ran in the woods
at like 1 AM
it was great
Blade Runner was good.
The Shining
It actually did creep me out as a kid xD Also Puppetmaster, I loved the effects on the puppets though
er not blade runner, maybe i got the title mixed up
for some reason I said blade runner instead of Hell raiser
The Shining is interesting. so was Dreamcatcher. sad movie though.
a lot of the audience was laughing
Hellraiser was pretty fun, the cenobites were cool
a lot of people are sociopaths.
There was some hilarious moments in that film
Dark Skies was actually a good horror, about Grey Aliens, it was good, people don't give it credit for some reason.
District 9 was a good movie.
The Thing is still my all time favorite for visual effects though
John Carpenter at his absolute best
Just watched the trailer of the game
im assuming you are just playing the survivors
since it said single player or coop
iconic theme song
Pet cemtary was a horror, but I barely remember it or if it was good.. also Chucky and Nightmare on Elm Street
these were so over the top lmao
Yeah xD They were great popcorn flicks
i enjoyed the first two Friday the 13th movies.. same for Nightmare on Elm St.
I watch the latter every few years
apparently the FLY is a horror 😆 i guess, sometimes a movie is more scifi than horror
Yeah I have to do the later ones very sparingly, especially the later Nightmare on Elm St movies. Robert Englund really went full ham towards the end
I think as iconic as Jason is.. his movies were my least favorite of the classic slashers.. the game that didn't do so well.. was fun lmao
Also.. the original Friday the 13th game.. OMG that was so bad but great XD
The LJN one? I hated that one as a kid xD
A playthrough of LJN's 1989 license based action-platformer for the NES, Friday the 13th.
Friday the 13th isn't a day that often falls in October, so I thought I'd celebrate with a look back at one of NES library's most notorious games.
Appearing on shelves a few months before the theatrical release of Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Ma...
The Friday the 13th NES game too
ahahahaha
Event Horizon also another horror scifi
If Chrissy and Mark died you might as well reset the game
the inside the cabin music on that game
is a forever memory
LMAO speaking of which
the jumpscare of Jason appearing
HOLY
nightmare fuel XD
there's a huge amount of scifi that is horror, they go hand in hand a little too often.
Then you have movies like Prometheus, which is scifi nonsense xD
Same! Seems like a lot of really good changes
Meanwhile, in Valheim:
Now now, they just released a tiny patch into the ptb for combat and a few other changes (some that sound really annoying, but hey, they're doing something)
Yeah, just memeing about the bears. It's good they're getting some additions and fixes
The archery targets and training dummies are pretty cool honestly
Only if it levels the skills, because if they're just pointless props, no thanks, work on the actual game.
Is kinda the thing though. Training dummies and bears would be a lot cooler if they came with some meaningful progress
Also adding trinkets (another item that just sits in your bag) and not a way to expand bag space is... a choice?
It said something about a new area, but we will see, because if it's not up north, soooo many games are getting borked
The trinkets annoy me. Don't add more flippin gear, if you're not going to have gear slots to open up inventory. Not to mention they'll probably weigh so and so lbs, which means less to carry there too.
Armor itself was already a point of friction without adding to it
It's a horrible system to not only have limited space but a weight max on top of that. -_- Then they add more things that take away options for using what little space you have.
That one still boggles me. I understand having limitation but weight limits aren't fun. They've never been fun
Half our bag is gear. I don't know about you, but I wear my clothes, not put them in my backpack
Never once has anyone thought "you know what, I'm really glad they have this weight system" in any game. Ever. I'm willing to put money on that
Yeah, the lack of a separate equipment inventory feels rudimentary and half-baked
At launch it was whatever, a minor annoyance, but as time goes on it's really kind of baffling they haven't added at least that much QoL
I love Valheim, but holy crap could they learn a few things from like any other game.
Same. It's a great game but it's missing so many things I'd call just basic
I use an equipment mod that gives the slots for equipment and three foods.
4 years in EA it really feels like a shame that modders are still doing the heavy lifting on such things
People keep saying but they only have a few devs. I'm sorry, but that doesn't work as an excuse forever. They had the money to hire more, they chose to pocket more profit instead.
Don't forget they bought a pony
Dunno how many devs is equal to the cost of a pony, but I have to imagine it's at least one
(The pony was neither seen nor heard from again by the player base)
From a PC Gamer article in May of 2021
Literally the only new 'team member' they paid for, a pony xD
Pony, depending on breeds, and not to mention care, could easily pay for a low level dev.
Right? That's kind of where the "small team" excuse wears thin. You don't have 'get a QoL or UI developer' money but you have pony money?
Not to mention they've said a couple of times that they're basically fatigued with the game and want to be done, which always goes over well when the game is crawling along at a snail's pace and the features your community wants have to be added by said community
And have admitted that the first year they let the viral success go to their heads and spent the entire year basically on vacation
Again, love the game and I think they did an amazing job with it, at first. Since then it's been pretty disappointing and it sounds like after 1.0 they're basically going to leave it to the modders
runescape amusingly had a weight system but it just affected your stamina usage.
oh elder scrolls does it too. i always console commanded/modded more carry weight. lol
main reasom i ever used godmode. rofl.
runescape also once had your armor in your invemtory back in the ancient times.
jeez what a bunch of fools.
no wonder i fell off the game. well thats not why but still.
I actually liked weight in BDO lmao
I didn't like the P2W mechanics behind it tho

lol. That doesn't bode well for Marathon
Marathon was not in a good place to begin with XD
Arc Raiders pretty much killed any momentum Marathon had when its test ended up much better
I wish they made it a single player or coop pve experience
Yeah fair, Marathon doesn't bode well for Marathon xD
But it's kind of a big deal when your CEO dips during the final weeks of a major game release
Didnt they push it back to like 2026?
Yeah but it's still supposed to be Q1 so it's before the end of Sony's fiscal year
Which really isn't a ton of time
I say final weeks because given that timeframe they need to be fundamentally done by then and be working on like polish, servers, and MTX

"Densely populated area" - footage shows like 4 NPCs total 😝
I'm making note of the fact that you don't see other players running around. Granted it was a limited preview but still
Yeah, I'm curious if it's becase it was a closed preview or if seeing other players is limited to hubs
My hope is obviously that it's low population because of closed preview and you'd see people out in the world.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think dungeons shouldn't be solo queue-able. Group content exists for a reason, and allowing it to be completely soloed means that a good chunk of your players will just... never play with anyone outside of their core group.
I was just thinking the same thing. Feels like people will just get impatient and all dungeons will just be solo content or an hour+ wait
It sounds like there will be people in the open world when he talked about the world boss that was fightable.
Im curious ohow much better it will be than BP
the test is going on right now so im sure we will see more footage

I enjoyed the first Aion, fingers crossed that this one is fun
It sounds like they'll have a good variety of fun content types. Fingers crossed that the monetization is good
Oof auto combat 👎
They butchered their new Aion servers this week
Yeah. Forgot to disable certain boosters so when they changed stuff over from account wide login to the new Ascend
So some accounts got perma buffs bc those boosters dont exist
Yeah. Max level characters running hella perma buffs lmao
Supposedly they are trying to undo them one by one
That's crazy, you'd think with the buffs not existing, they just... wouldn't apply?
You would think lmao
its not StarFox but it will do

Only difference is it's roguelike
but man, i hate how this game also has "OH NO I GOT SOMEONE ON MY TAIL IM HELPLESS SAAAAAVE MEEEE"
and then when I have someone on my tail "DO A BARREL ROLL" F U SAVE ME
Ew.
Temu Starfox is a thing I guess XD
I mean, if Nintendo won't do anything with Starfox we just have to settle for Starfox at home xD
This looks cool
It looks better to me than that Wildblue game
I haven't checked it out yet but it's supposed to be really good
Actually speaking of ignored Nintendo franchises, I'm kinda surprised nobody is working on a multiplayer F-Zero clone
Ill check it out if I got time after my Hollow Knight run if I finish it before Delta comes out haha
Too many games z.z
They said something about not knowing to come up with a new evolution of F zero
How*
I mean, just do F-Zero GX but multiplayer. It would slap especially hard if you made it 120fps on Switch 2
No need to overthink the concept
That doesn't sound like Nintendo unless its Pokémon lmao
Also same goes for Wipeout lmao
Wipeout would go hard as a 120fps multiplayer game
You could have leaderboards, ranked races, tournaments... I've never been big on the whole idea of "let the players create the content" but this is one case where it would fit exceptionally well
Like, this is a great time where Nintendo should just be kinda lazy for once
It doesn't necessarily have to be exactly F-Zero GX but like, you'd just have to do a "best of" with the course selection and have it run at a stable 120. You could even drip feed in remastered tracks from the older games like they did with Mario Kart 8
That would be interesting
what makes f-zero better than any other racing game?
Wouldn't say better necessarily, but a different flavor. It gives an intense feeling of speed and it's very intense from start to finish. F-Zero GX on Gamecube is widely considered the pinnacle of the F-Zero experience
i saw that, and it's a weakass excuse when they have zero problems making new mario games that get what, new power ups?
at least zelda has a little more room for creativity but OoT of and TP are the same game.
Plus it has that whole futuristic neon aesthetic
I mean Mario has changed significantly with new titles
id check it out if I didnt despise racing games so much. i mean there's some i enjoy with friends but between me sucking at racing games and the games literally cheating.......................
define signifficantly?
Look at Mario 3/World compared to 64 to Galaxy
They are quite different even though all three are platformers
ya but with the sidescrollers they're all the same.
Heck even just Mario Bros > Super Mario > Super Mario 2 > Super Mario 3
nah, those are all the same game.
Each is wildly different from the last

what are you smoking?
We cant count 2 because that wasnt even supposed to be a Mario game lmao
Im very nostalgic about that series in general... Mario Bros was the first game I beat when I was a smol child in the 80s
is 2 super weird like that gameboy one?
Mario 2 had selectable characters ( toadstool and peach added ) and had enemies that originated from a different game. Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic was the original game reskinned to Mario 2 for American audience.
one of my favorite zeldas was link's awakening but the ending ruined it for me.
still, I loved the mario references and all the little things.
still LOVE the oracle games although i never did finish a full playthrough of both. I've had a very long list of speed bumps with Ages.
finished seasons back in the day though.
i miss the ring system.
We can count it because it was released as one (at least for us) xD Besides, who knows if it would have been or not, the only reason it was made into Doki Doki in the first place is because when Nintendo was approached to make a game for the festival, they already had it in development. So Doki Doki basically got the same treatment as Mario 2, they just took a game they were already just about done with and threw some character skins on it xD
Maybe originally it would have been a Mario game or even the Mario game we got anyhow
DOKI DOKI
My only thing about this is that they didnt even reskin enemies... they just used ones that are canon to that doki doki game
Not sure why they didnt even take the time to reskin them to koopa's or anything Mario related
Sure but thanks to that we got shy guys, bomb ombs, those cactus things, and a lot of other Mario series staples
I was going to mention the fact that Mario and Luigi play differently, but that was already established in Mario 2 Japan, where Luigi was "slippery" and jumped higher
I just rewatch the gamescom opening night live. Besides Enshrouded, another game for me interested. La Divina Commedia.
I'm asked ChatGPT about it and here is what he told me
"faithfully reinterpret Dante's literary masterpiece"
As a human who read it 3 times already, this got me more interested than the rest of details

Blue Protocol Star Resonance Is ...
Looks potentially promising. Much more than most upcoming projects. One quiet red flag for me was at the beginning of the video though: "World bosses with up to 20 people."
Which means the "open world" zones are only going to have a max of 20 people 🙁
I cant remember if it just creates an boss zone that allows 20 to enter when it spawns.
Interesting
Given the way it seems to be structured I'm anticipating more of an "MMO lite" feel, where its open world and you see other players kinda phase in and out
Not sure how diff it is from OG Blue Protocol but there was a large amount of players i saw running around
It was when it first launched.

Kind of an interesting way to do things
That looks interesting. Though I'm not really into that type of combat style. I'll probably try it out just to try. It's supposed to be free to play. So why not. Of course that will depend on how intrusive the EULA, TOS, and any Anti-Cheat is.
Its pretty fun
I'm mostly concerned about P2W these days, since most f2p games tend to bungle it in one way or another
ya
Well, my problem with it is just fundamental. When there's P2W in a MMO, a significant portion of the audience gets edged out by the people willing to pay for power, then they quit, then the game dies.
We see it again and again. Yeah, the games make enough money to be successful in the process, but like... it's a terrible player experience and not good for a long term living world type game.
big plus for me is that there aren't pvp games of that theme and the pvp is actually good https://youtu.be/VxCTrgrTW4k?si=4RHuurg1obJMNwFt
I'm using a Pure Broken Bamboo build (Dual Swords + Rope Dart), but I'm still missing two meta cultivations. I'll try to complete them soon. All opponents are human (you can tell from their costumes and their aggressive playstyle). My rank score is 1600, the maximum score is 3000.
Please read description below before making a question.
My spe...
Yeah, the PvP being good is really important.
I dont think it has to be a terrible experience
Albion has its fanbase
Eastern audiences like their mmos and they are p2w
Yeah
I mean, with MTX it's always a case of kneecapping something. If it's cosmetic, visual progression (which is an important aspect) gets kneecapped. If it's power, player balance gets kneecapped. If it's pay to skip/pay for convenience, the overall experience gets kneecapped
The last one in particular, because it requires the fundamental design to create friction and problems in order to be able to sell the solution
People bemoan pay2win, and rightfully so, but I feel like cosmetic and convenience mtx get too much of a free pass because they're "not as bad". They're sitll pretty bad xD
I rather have mtx than battle passes
those force people to play a game and do dailies/weekly challenges to get stuff
even if they are free
timed events even seasonal aren't great either
I have come to accept all of this though
I don't mind seasonal events as much because most games just do it as a little celebration thing. Timed events and battle passes are pretty obnoxious
idk.. its the same to me
because its saying "play this game to earn this currency to use in this event only vendor"
that doesn't sound like a celebration to me XD
celebration would be more like.. hey, its <holiday> check your mail for this free stuff
Eh, as long as it's all available for free and it isn't game impacting, it's something I find I can ignore. A lot of people like having the chase
I mean this all is why I advocate for a subscription-only model. No fuss, no muss, just you pay and you play.
I'd say BP is different because it's persistent and they usually do impact the broader gameplay. They come with boosts, unlocks, things that can make a player objectively stronger than another
And they usually have the free tier and the paid tier with more of that stuff
its literally the same thing
Yeah, like paid chances for crafting and stuff, where you can guarantee upgrades
just all year round versus seasonal Xd
When it's all year round it's something they change the fundamental gameplay for. Games don't usually design around occasional seasonal events
do x within this time frame and get stuff
Sort of. I've never seen a battle pass system that doesn't also come with other MTX
Like, with persistent BP they're making various leveling/unlock tasks from the base game harder because "you can unlock faster if you do the BP". Seasonal events are usually just like, you can unlock a swimsuit cosmetic or a pet that looks like a pumpkin
Maybe a fireworks item
Yeah, a seasonal cosmetic that isn't part of the core game. Like you aren't handicapping visual progression because once a year you're going to let players dress up like a bunny xD
Does Helldivers do that seasonally, or is it a persistent BP?
i mean.... <.<
For helldivers it's persistent
persistent
Like the new BP gets added and then you can buy it whenever
Yeah, but also helldives has a pretty solid progression of being able to get BP-purchasing currency by playing
So if you play enough you don't ever need to spend money, it feels a lot better
yeah
That's the part I have issues with, when there's always a BP and you're tying player progression to it. At some point you're making getting that equipment organically harder because you're trying to funnel players into the BP and get them to pay for the upgraded tier
WWM will have this too
but its more like.... getting refreshes
so you can farm more
but you still gotta farm
not as a battle pass i dont think.. just straight up gacha
That's a pretty substantial power gain over non-paying players though

One thing I appreciate about JSH is he actively refuses sponsorships so he can use his own words and honest opinions in his reviews
Yeah
Feels like a scattergun. Like they're throwing out a lot of ideas that don't necessarily seem cohesive
I mean, on the one hand it sounds like a neat endgame kind of idea, the whole roguelike procedural dungeon thought, but then you have Fortnite building and apparently the zones will be available throughout progress, it sounds like what JSH mentions where all you're effectively doing is splitting your already limited player base
The Fortnite building I'm iffy on. I'm not sure why that's a thing
It doesn't seem like it's mechanically well integrated into the gameplay loop, that's for sure.
My big thought is the sort of feedback they're looking for on a very unfinished product like that should be what they're getting from their QA department. But that led me to take a quick look at the FPC website and... there's no QA leadership listed 🙁
That in itself is troubling, but yeah, while it's admirable that they want to be transparent about the process, transparency this early doesn't really benefit anyone. Players can't take anything away from it because of how early on it is and devs aren't going to get meaningful feedback because nothing is finalized enough to say for sure that it works or doesn't
Yeah, it also seems like they're trying to build a VERY large system and show it off before some of the core fundamentals are in place to showcase what makes the system special
And most players are gonna have a real hard time understanding the value of that system if they can't show how it's better than other things, heh.
The nightreign comparison is actually hilarious to me
And I mean, speaking of fundamentals why wouldn't you at very least have your core class skills functional before doing your big streamer reveal review thing? Like, they're working with a tank that can't tank
Yeah, like i get wanting to show your work and stuff. But like... if it isn't actually playable why have players play it? Write more dev blocks and show clips and stuff.
Yeah, the whole thing gives me concerns about how they're operating frankly. You're developing an MMO that you decide to showcase too early and without showing the actual MMO part. You're effectively showing off a roguelike proc gen game wearing an MMO skin
Which again, is an interesting idea if we're talking about endgame or some kind of side activity, but it seems odd to me to make it available from the start
I think it kinda has to do with how their world is designed, but yeah I agree
