Lately Blizzard also, though before things got too terrible I did buy D2 Remaster
After the workplace conditions/Diablo Immortal nonsense it pains me to say that, but it is legitimately well done and makes a perfect Switch title. Plus I've been dreaming of playing actual D2 on a handheld pretty much since it came out
Like, literally at the time I remember holding a GBA and thinking "man, it would be so dope if this could play Diablo 2" and here we are
I guess I don't share most of the nostalgia that a lot of D2 fans have. I played a ton of it back in the day, but I feel like gaming has come so far since then that it's tough to look back and really miss it.
Like, give me Grim Dawn or Last Epoch or PoE over D2 any day.
I don't think you're wrong. I catch myself feeling that way. D2 just had such a total package between the story, the graphic design/atmosphere, the sound design, the character customization, and the way killing a boss is like a loot pinata. It isn't exceptional in any one thing it does these days but it's exceptional in how they all work together
But yes, it is very very dated in all of those things minus the soundtrack. Whoever played acoustic guitar for Diablo 2 is one of my favorite musicians
Matt Uelmen. He played some really tasty stuff on that
Plus playing through the journey, downfall, and eventual redemption of Marius was really cool. I love the way the story takes place just a few steps ahead of the player. The feeling of chasing after Diablo and Marius really helped drive the gameplay when it got tedious (looking at you, Arcane Sanctuary). I honestly wish more games would use that storytelling idea, watching what happened just before you got there and having to clean up after while trying to catch the characters really was a brilliant move in driving the (admittedly) repetitive gameplay.
It really gave a sense of urgency and purpose to the grind
Like, on a first run/casual run you aren't grinding up because you want the epic shiny or to be OP for the boss, you're doing it because Diablo was JUST in this cave and you need to be prepared for the fight ahead. Only to learn that you just missed him but you discovered where he's planning to go to next. The storytelling is absolutely superb
</Diablo2rant>
Playing is bittersweet, the remaster is great but it reminds me that Blizzard was once a much better company with significantly more integrity
(Also just to get ahead of it, everything said above is in my opinion, not empirical fact. Because almost everything said on Discord is in someone's opinion but unless you say that some emotionally damaged person will come along and hurl verbal abuse at you)
Yeah, it sounds like you were a lot more invested in the story and gameplay loop than I was. I play ARPGs a lot more for the build creation puzzle solving aspect of it. I love finding new uniques and making builds and stuff like that, so my D2 memories mostly revolve around shenanigans I tried with the various classes.
Grind for me gets boring when I can't see a clear path to the next upgrade or I can see it but it's going to take an unreasonably long time to get to. So I don't really feel connected/nostalgic for D2 since I can get those things much more expansively in modern games
I do too (-edit- play for the puzzle solving bits), but it left such a strong first impression that I got invested. I fully understand not feeling the same way, broken down to it's nuts and bolts D2 isn't any great shakes by ARPG standards. Even then but especially today
I've never been a believer in 'sacred cows' (no that's not an intentional pun about the hidden cow level xD) in gaming. If you love a game or franchise you should acknowledge it's flaws and love it warts and all
I know in some circles games like D2 are talked about in reverant, hushed tones. I've never been one to drink that kool aid
I mean, frankly at the time I felt like Nox did more with it's gameplay and mechanics, it just didn't manage to wrap it all together as well
(Thats some ARPG deep cuts xD)
Yeah I feel like there are a number of games like that that had good ideas but didn't have a nice whole package to wrap things up in.

I would recommend this game it's really good.
I ❤️ roccat
Wow. Icarus is a game that definitely needs more time in the oven
Feels just barely a step above one of those shovelware Unity survivals
Yep, that's pretty much why I refunded it.
I played for like maybe an hour and uninstalled it. It was a free demo but part of me feels like I'm owed a refund anyway
This is me speaking as a gamer, not at all as a mod. My opinion is not by any means related to Keen Games'.
But holy hell, that's exactly what I feel about every game that Dean Hall/RocketWerkz puts out. That and how directionless their development seems to me. It's just a hard, hard pass for me.
Again, my personal opinion as a gamer.
Just looked up RocketWerkz, makes sense that this is the same studio behind Stationeers
And DayZ standalone
Yeah, just dug into their library and every game they publish has a distinct "Unity student project" feel to them. Which would be fine if they weren't selling one of those with a $141.99 DLC bundle edition
Gives me strong Conan vibes
I really enjoyed this game!
I liked the look of it but its lack of co-op held me back from getting it. Glad that has finally changed and looking forward to checking it out.
Yeah I can imagine it being really fun to chill with a friend on there, honestly.
Is there any other voxel building games that roughly look as good as enshrouded I can play while I wait? Valheim isn't voxel-based but it's quite fun as well.
The added Co-Op to me seems like the game company just bowing to the few comments people left. The game doesn't need co-op
Yeah, not faulting anyone if they enjoy it but that seems like a game more than most that really doesn't need co-op
Not really and that's kinda the problem. This is really something unique in the way it's set up, I personally can't think of anything that would be similiar enough to scratch the itch
Just a lot of "kinda close, but" things. There's Valheim, which is kinda close but no skill tree and not voxel. There's Portal Knights, which is kinda close but it's got a chunkier Minecraft look and more simplistic building. So on and so on
Though Portal Knights is a great time if you've never tried it
I have tried PK and it is a bit too kidlike for my taste...
Yeah, it's definitely strong with that whole whimsy thing. If you don't mind isometrics, V-Rising is a great survival game
But yeah, similar to Enshrouded, I don't think there are any. That's part of why it's getting so much hype
well there is Dual Universe, but its sci-fi spaceships and voxel building to the extreme.
"Kinda close, but" xD
I hate that Remnant 2's DLC achievements are locked behind a paywall. Luckily, buying Ultimate edition gave me the DLC for free.
Here's another option that's not exactly new but has a new content Patch if you can get the Test Branch to work (I can't sadly): Mist Survival. I'm lowkey addicted to it so far, bought it like 4 days ago. It's not really like Enshrouded but IS a base builder, Survival game with Bandits that attack your Base and monsters around. Lots of bugs and janky mechanics though and has been in EA for ~5 years because I think it's just a 1 person Dev.
I don't like fortnite but they really do some impressive crossovers!
Fortnite is soo last year! I was into Fortnite but ditched it when they started changing everything and introduced PvP. Yes that's right PvP was added after the PvE campaign
br'er Cristari with the stories from the olden times
soooooooo who all is excited that Medival Dynasty is getting multiplayer ?
Its a very slow relaxing game.,I would say, it's fun if you like a sims management over crops, villagers, their jobs etc. Very relaxing. Until spring comes around and then you are left making knives all month.
wouldn't you be planting crops in Spring?
Depends on your desired outcome I suppose 🤔
you can say that about a lot of things
All year round but spring is when tax is due
It's co-op really.
There is also Shingoku Dynasty as well it was still in development when I played that.
Same developers I believe. I think I saw a short video on it a while back.
its not a standard fortnite cross-over. It is a entirely new game type that is survival building.

Ah, its only coming in 2025...
It looks incredible
yeah I know. that is what I was saying it's not really multiplayer it's just cooperative.
It's CGI
They can make it look incredible
It's just a video wait until you see the gameplay then judge
To be honest I don't think it will be that far off from the trailer. They still have a whole year to work on it, if there aren't any delays... and they didn't say it was going to be early 2025
steam release 2027 or something
Haha probably, might even be in beta for forever like RDR2 online
Damn, it still hurts the state it is in.
all the GTA games feel the same to me, i lost hype for it after GTA: SA
Every game up to GTAIV was pretty revolutionary, and GTAV was a pretty massive step up from 4 and pushed the bar pretty hard for what people expected from open world games.
They'll have a lot of work to do to hit the same level of noteriety with 6 though, because in a lot of ways the industry itself has kinda caught up. It's not nearly as unusual these days for massive scale games like that to come out
Wild we get to play GTA VI before Enshrouded
Hah not quite, that game's planned to release in 2025
Perhaps they are a time traveller

i didn't realise the game awards were tomorrow, i thought they were friday
well i guess technically they are for me being in scotland
The game awards are an event where the gaming press takes turns patting each other on the back for their respective takes
The patting is done with stacks of money they recieved from the industry
I could care less about the awards themselves. just interested in the reveal trailers for upcoming games.
Trailers are for the most part just CGI cinematics. I'm interested in gameplay, not cinematics
Gameplay really sells it or not for me, because if our combat actions are slow, I would avoid that game.
I mean, I don't think I'm alone when I say that I'm tired of games companies advertising with CG 'interpretations' of their game without showing the actual game. Awards shows/trade shows do it, they do it on Steam, 'teaser trailers' do it (looking at you GTA 6). Like, I don't care about how good a cinematic you can make, I care about how good a game you can make, show me the game

Do you like Hardcore, sandbox, open world, full loot on death, PVP based MMO's?
Because I don't.
anyway here's a review of Mortal Online 2.
Which is basical...
The first 60 seconds of that video explains exactly why I feel that way
Seriously, just watch the first 60 seconds, it makes my point far better than I can
The only thing I got from that video is to afk for my resting skill and be fast at afk healing.
Everything else is too slow paced for me.
The GTA VI trailer looks really bad for modern CGI, it's likely gameplay footage. Cinematic footage, but still rendered gameplay footage.
and likely a lot of the dialogue was direct game/story footage. They'll show other gameplay footage later, and I bet it will be just fine for a GTA game.

That combination of things is so bizzare that it kinda sounds like a parody lol
I thought most of that was all in game cinematic stuff from the engine... not CGI
right
For console, I thought it looked fine. I enjoyed how dense the population was so looking. I hope it is that way when its released for PS5 Pro
Epic Games realised long ago that Fortnite was a meme, it's not surprising you see a parody there.

That's actually really exciting. I've always thought that NMS's procedural generation engine would be better for a single world than it is for a universe
And it looks like it's going to be a sort of MMO survival game, which could be dooooope if done right.

They didn't deliver on the last game at launch, so there's a chance they won't on the release of this one. They saved themselves after release, but it was still a hit at first. People are watching it though. I mean with 17 developers, a MMO is a pretty crazy goal
They made up for it, but it was still a rocky start
Yeah, and it looks like this game is built at least in part on the systems they've built up in NMS, so I have a bit more faith they can deliver with this than they did with NMS.
They're not starting from scratch like they did with NMS.
exactly. and dont have to worry about leaving a planet and having to generate whole other systems. Its just one planet with all the aspects of nms.
Let's see how this thing turned out.

WDYM? A Russian developed game with a turbulent development cycle that asks for data permissions on a PC? I see nothing alarming there
what
Sorry, Russian mobile developer
it's not the part I am taking issue with lol
True story, I was watching a Second Wind live stream of it and it asks for data permissions
Well, to be clear it asks if you want to transmit "partial or full data", but that's murkey enough as it is
Read that EULA closely kids
What website is the stream on?
It was on YouTube, just look for the Second Wind channel (bunch of people from The Escapist including Yahtzee who left do do their own thing)
Ah is this the youtube app?
Has nothing to do with the creator, youtube "needs" that for you to use livestreaming
Though yeah it certainly makes you think that they need that permission now and didn't need it a few years ago lol

I think they were doing their own streaming, it was the game asking for permissions
🤣
YouTube creators don't have the power to do that, or any of the major streaming platforms for that matter (twitch, tiktok, steam store, etc). Speaking as someone with experience of what kind of tools creators have on all those platforms.
However the platforms themselves do collect and store data on all their users, either for on-platform uses like advertising and algorithm recommendations, or to sell it to third parties.
For those like myself who never heard of it before about ~2 weeks ago, Mist Survival has a new Patch on the Live Branch 0.6.0. It's a solo Dev who just updated the entire game to UE5 and added a new Zone to the map (2 Zones now) as well as new Infected (Zombie like). I'm completely addicted to it so far and it's dirt cheap on Steam.

Maybe I misunderstood. They're long time game journalists who stream regularly and they seemed surprised by it, so the impression I got was that it was the game itself asking. It's early in the stream if you want to see what I mean
Ill double check myself after work
Who could've seen that coming 👀
Personally I'm shocked
Though I looked at the reviews a bit at work. My favorite so far just says "This is why aliens don't talk to us"
i was hype for alot of games this year that were similar but its not even suprising when a game flops like this anymore

ohhhhh the game itself, sorry I totally misunderstood lol
That's... bizzare. What does that even mean lol
He was perplexed too xD
I assume they did it for... legal reasons? But it's such a vague statement that I have doubts it would hold up in a court whatsoever lol
You need to actually say what you're tracking not just a vague... "data"
Plus they're a Russian studio, so I'm not sure they care about courts
Well this one especially if you've been following the news on it isn't surprising at all. It had all the hallmarks of a bait and switch and lo and behold, here we are

Damn. Hello Games coming back around with this…..
Yeah. I have mixed feelings. Given how NMS turned out, I'm pretty excited but they're already coming out of the gate swinging with the big promises. They plan to have a procedurial world "the size of the Earth"
Sit down and have a think for a minute about just how massive that actually is
It's a lot smaller than their original NMS promises to be fair lol
Yeah, that's true xD
Actually technically a lot smaller than NMS is as well. Size doesn't really mean a lot when it's generated indefinitely with code
they can make it the size of earth but i already know its just gonna be like starfield and be empty
But also densely packed
Though hello games seems like a pretty chill studio honestly, I don't think they were ever con artists... Intentionally. I think they just didn't hire a CM and a lead dev who knew nothing about public speaking handled all the interviews. If I had let some of the devs I've worked with previously handle all public communication instead of me it probably would have went pretty similarly.
Like, for their sake I kinda wish they had just said "we're working on a fantasy themed open world game" and left it mysterious
And taking the time to actually fix their mistakes is extremely admirable, they easily could have just put that funding somewhere else.
Oh yeah, if anything the guy they picked as their pitch-man was the major issue, I'm just saying this smacks a bit of history repeating itself
i think its because they promised a bunch did none of it and then ghost people for so long they were getting lawsuits?
I have massive respect for Hello for the follow-up they did with NMS but it feels a bit like they didn't take their lessons from that experience. I'm hoping I'm wrong and even if I'm not they absolutely deserve benefit of the doubt, it's just.... ehhhhhh
idk exactly what it was i just know something forced them to work on the game mightve just been steam community
It was their own reputation at stake
Can't agree more, love when games (or anyone/anything) does this
if the game is even half as good as the trailer then its already better than half the games out this year
Agreed, though I love it more when they don't have to. Like, when they don't overpromise, give development the time it needs, and release a product that meets or exceeds expectation. Too many studios took their example to mean "we can dump betas and alphas out there and just promise to fix it later"
Maybe they learned their lesson, lol
ye that's very true
I'm pretty stoked for it, I've always liked the idea of a single world with amazing proc-gen over a big universe
Yeah, all said I'm definitely stoked
I think they already did a long time ago, the way they've handled communication since launch has been much more professional and reasonable
i just want more dev teams like Re-logic
made terraria one of the highest rated games great updates and the best part
they know when to stop adding stuff
Terraria is a fine example of the right way to do that kind of thing. Start with "here's this game we did" then without a whole lot of radio noise, just keep adding things and building the quality
Though I will say a lot of people saying "I wish more studios were like" hellogames, relogic, mojang, etc. Isn't really the fairest comparison.
Hello games for example, while their behavior was admirable, it also would be quite literally impossible for most studios.
The reason NMS was able to create so many amazing patches after such an awful launch, was because the launch actually wasn't awful. NMS made so much money on pre-orders alone that the studio was set for literally years after that point, no matter what happened.
And yeah it's nice they didn't just take the money and run, but most botched launches don't have the luxury to make that choice. Most studios are already in the hole financially (or very close to it) by the time they launch, so they're almost always forced to either close down or at the very least pivot to a new project if the launch doesn't go well.
Terraria too for example, that's a team of only 3 devs, and they're all insanely rich. They can honestly do whatever they want
Hello is an example of the right way to put out a dumpster fire. Like, the ideal situation is to not be in their position to begin with
Yeah mostly just saying they are incredibly unique, because while their launch was a PR disaster, it was actually a massive financial success. They more than paid off the cost of development literally months before the game even launched, just because of preorders
I feel like people take the wrong moral away from that story
yeah but i feel like its more hello kept going because it was a small group of programmers who decided to rent an office and work from there
and tbf mojang is just lazy
Mojang the developer isn't. He did what he did and sold the whole thing to MS back in like 2014. Kind of a depressing story really, he poured years into MC and made it a success, and after he sold it he found he wasn't a fan of the 'millionaire lifestyle' and missed having a project and a purpose. Saddest millionaire you could meet
you mean notch?
yeah notch isnt the problem its mojang almost having a stroke when you ask them to add more than 1 mob
Err right, my bad. Got it confused
since the first version of minecraft was made in 6 days
To be fair to mojang MCs base code is uh... It's somethin
I imagine the spaghetti code base only causes more and more problems as they keep adding content
all im sayin is
spaggetti code is rather tasty tho
minecraft java or bethesda code whos winning the crash off?
the two superpowers of broken code
Darn, you beat me to the spaghetti code comment xD
My favorite spaghetti code situation is probably osu!, the developers are literally rebuilding the exact same game from scratch because the original 2008 version was so broken that they started to get to the point where they couldn't add new features anymore
It's almost done I think last time I checked
but it's like... Literally the same game. No changes. The code just works better lol
Honestly probably more difficult than just making a new game. Trying to recreate the feel of an old game, but with completely different code... Yeah I don't envy that.
I mean technically this is untrue. Much like Skyrim, somewhere right now someone is starting a new Minecraft world
It's one of those games you get bored with, put down for a few years, then you see it in your library and go "oh hey...."
im talkin about minecraft without the mods
Me too xD
Depends on how good you are with redstone
I mean, technically it's the game equivelant of Seinfeld. It's a game about nothing
all except combat are kinda poop without some type of mod
starfield is trash but it does have quests
weapon varity
yeah ngl i cant think of anything else starfield has
my bad i thought it was a typo
It kinda was, I spelled his name wrong xD
i never watched seinfeld so idk what any of that means
The tagline for the show was that it was "a show about nothing"
starfield was ok in the combat but the main selling point, exploration, is very bad
Without getting into an essay about Seinfeld that's what I was driving at. I'll take my walker and my Metamucil back to my corner xD
starfield just made me miss skyrim lmao
Not honestly sure why people were upset about Starfield, it's... A bathesda game. It's interesting for me to see this cycle repeat over, and over, and over again lol. It's happened with I think every game they've made since fo3. Massive overhype, insane numbers of preorders, and then people being disappointed when it's not as good as the hype.
Starfield felt like every other Bathesda game that has come out in the last like... 2 decades. Decent and interesting, but janky
Even Skyrim was like... A total mess. It was just cooler back then because games of that scale didn't exist
i just didnt like the exploration becoming the same few prefabed dungeons forever in starfield
Every Bethesda game has been the worst Bethesda game since Arena. I think Skyrim got reset as the new baseline because more people played it or Oblivion
i enjoyed fallout 3, nv, and skyrim but yeah they are janky
Sorry I should say *Bethesda RPG
Starfield was nowhere near as bad as fo76 to be fair... Not sure if that's saying much
yeah starfield wasnt very buggy for me thankfully
A raging case of Covid isn't as bad as 76 TBF
bethesda is only so big cause of skyrim since its the only game they ever made that wasnt borderline unplayable
since fallout 4 is still unplayable because of how they made their saves work
I'm just a little surprised people keep hyping these games up so much, how many times does this cycle have to repeat before people learn?
I just assume the game will be a buggy mess, and then wait to see what people say about it. If it ends up not being that I'll be pleasantly surprised and have a fun game to enjoy lol
Oblivion was huge... Morrowind was huge... Daggerfall was huge... It's just more people got exposure because of Oblivion and Skyrim
they were huge but they were huge for their time
bethesda aint making anything great in a time where many other games are just as big
idk bout daggerfall cause ive never even seen it
I mean, are we talking money or quality?
Yeah they need to move past creation engine honestly, but I imagine most of their team has mastered it over the past several decades so that's probably extremely difficult for them
Daggerfall was literally the largest open world RPG ever made until Skyrim happened
It was a very good engine, but with what most modern engines can do these days it has very little going for it
dagger fall is the biggest then morrow then oblivion etc
its crazy how they use it still
for example
you can get all creation club content on fallout 4 for free
Yeah, they're too married to it, they really need to figure out Creation 2.0 or whatever the next evolution is
hope they just move to a new engine or unreal
They definitely won't move to Unreal, no way Bethesda is going to work under Epic's thumb
theres a reason why only bethesda games have mods entirely for fixing half the game
It's not that crazy tbh. Honestly it's probably a pretty tough spot for them. They have entire teams of devs who have spent years mastering this specific outdated engine, who probably know very little about working with ue5 or whatever other major engine that would be a better fit.
Their best bet would be creating their own engine from scratch that can actually catch up to modern ones, but given Starfield it doesn't seem like CE2 accomplished that.
i aint seeing no unoffical fix of 5 gbs for other games
most other games arent even mod friendly enough for people to even develop patches for it
That's what I mean, they should have spent the dev time for Starfield working on the next step of the Creation engine, whatever they're doing TES6 in (because if it's Creation than lord have mercy)
feels like they should just focus on story telling and poi quality instead of trying to 1 up their last game with a bigger map
TES6 is also CE2 yep
RIP
its not that alot of games arnt mod friendly its just that a good amount of them use managers that arnt nexus or workshop
cause ik risk of rain got plenty of mods and some of the vr games i play got em too
They really do seem stuck in a mold, like endless repeating quests worked in Skyrim because the world was interesting, the character building was interesting, and the tech at the time wasn't much past what it was doing. You can't release Skryim but in space 12 years later and go "but wait, you can build starships!". Yeah, 35 games on Steam already do this
Also, NMS is a thing
it really wouldnt be suprising at this point if they just started re releaseing skyrim on anything with a screen
I mean even smaller studios can make big open world games these days (like us :D)
Scale is what bathesda has relied on for a long time, but at this point that just isn't that impressive anymore. Their quantity over quality approach seems to be falling apart, so I hope they can figure something out.
cant wait for skyrim on the nokia
honestly might just be better for them to train in a new engine unless they can show that CE2 works with ES6 but im not expecting anything other than skyrim in a desert
This is a games industry marketing issue right now. Hours and scale just don't matter as much these days, they're too common. Now we're at the point where it's like "OK, you have a game that can potentially last 120 hours and a game world the size of Brazil. What else?"
I mean in terms of sales alone, it still works tbh. Starfield was massively successful
So was like D4 for example, despite the arpg community actually being fairly dissapointed in it
cause the companies saw that scale made big money back then and its just continued but the best is just a decent sized map with content
Yeah, unfortunately you're right. Even Diablo immortal for how massively it's been panned and looked down on made more than the GDP of most countries
immortal was successful because of that one guy who wouldn't stop hitting the slot machine lever and spent like 250k or whatever lol
But yeah as much as I'll complain about these practices from bigger studios, if regulators won't punish them and gamers won't stop preordering from them, I can't exactly blame them.
Gods that irritated me. Every time I saw a YT video like that pop up I was screaming "STOP REWARDING THEM" in the back of my head 😂
Yeah, it's legitimately why I gravitate more towards the indie space save a couple large developers. I'm sick of the industry and I've always been of a mind that every dollar is a vote. Every dollar you put down says "I like this, I approve of it, and I want more"
More dollars? More votes. Same statement
There's a lot of absolutely fantastic indies out there honestly, I think a lot of people just straight up don't know better. If they don't see a game in marketing they don't know it exists, so they assume that all these major studio games that are full of issues are the best they can get and tolerate all their problems.
I also play mostly indies at this point, I tend to get a lot more enjoyment, as well as respect for my time/wallet, than the occasional AAA game I buy.
Last AAA game I bought was EA sports WRC, and honestly it's pretty good, but I only bought it once its review embargo was completely lifted and I knew exactly what I'd be getting.
This is very true, and I understand I'm a lot more plugged into industry news than a lot of people. Maybe not online but in my own experience when I talk about bad industry practices or new indies to say coworkers, that are pretty well broadcasted in my news channels and in my circles, they legitimately have no idea
The only AAA I really support with my money these days is Capcom, and only because the quality is there and nothing extremely horrible has come out about them yet. For the rest between dev abuse, deplorable working conditions, and hedonistic monetization I'm just out, I'll give my money to a company that deserves it more
And most likely, get a better experience for it
Yeah I can't really blame consumers tbh, regulators just are completely ignoring the industry. I don't think anybody wants more game industry regulation than game devs lol. Especially with monetization.
Kinda a survival of the fittest sort of thing, if everyone around you is abusing their consumers in this way, you'll be at a massive disadvantage if you don't join them. Especially as studios get bigger and bigger. The only big studios that are exceptions to this rule (FromSoftware, Larian, etc). Are studios that have such massive cult followings and funding that success is, essentially, guaranteed. So long as the product they release isn't garbage. Most studios do not have that luxury though.
Well that's not entirely true, I also spend money on Nintendo products but they seem to do really well by all standards I've mentioned
Well it's not just consumers, they're abusing everyone. Customers, developers, people who just work at the company like HR and clerical staff, subcontractors, it's across the board. It's such a dehumanizing environment that it's kind of impressive in an exetential sense really
Why do you think I always work for EU studios despite living in the states
There's actual workplace regulation there and they treat me like a human being
I hope there's more of an exodus like that. I heard a recent story about that game Rise of Kong or whatever, that lolmeme that came out earlier this year. They subcontracted the whole thing to a group in Argentina, paid pennies on the dollar, and only gave them like 6 weeks that they had to mercilessly crunch through
Like, they literally came out with a statement defending themselves because they're like "bro, this isn't our fault"
An exodus honestly isn't that realistic, both because the size of the industry in EU is a lot smaller, but also because the pay on average is a lot lower. Cost of living in the US is absurdly high. I have a frugal lifestyle and can make it work, but I could probably be getting 30+% more pay if I "settled" for an american studio.
Not worth it to me though, my mental health is far more valuable.
Light No Fire is a game about adventure, building, survival and exploration together. To be announced
That's the thing and what's most frustrating. Like, John Carmack crunched back in the day because he was doing his passion, his hobby, and his whole reason to be. He loved coding and game development and it's all he wanted to do. I find it really unfortunate that the industry has taken that example to mean that this is just what developers do and we should expect them all to be on a constant IV drip of caffeine and only stop for 45 minutes a day to use the toilet
Then you get these rockstar developers who actually make it and find success, and everyone goes "Oh, well all developers are millionaires so paying more should be fine" and you end up in this viscious cycle where you have to sacrifice your entire life to work just to make enough to afford to keep working
As someone who lives in California I've seen the unfortunate effects of silicon valley pretty closely and now they're threatening to take over the whole state
Rents and cost of living are only skyrocketing more and more because of the silicon valley/hollywood money moving further east to get away from it
But I digress, the long and the short being that's why I'm very selective about where my money goes these days and I don't support most AAA studios (Capcom and Nintendo aside) because of their practices, no matter how cool the game might look
I'm not expecting to start a movement and I don't fault anyone who does, it's just my personal stance
After the comeback with No Man's Sky, I may give Light No Fire a chance after seeing reviews, but I still refuse to pre-order any Hello Games products.
The Day Before has finally arrived. I hoped for the best, expected the worst, yet somehow it fell far below expectations. What a shame, really.
Considering it's probably years away, I'm relatively excited for it. I like games where you explore and build, and a dedicated multiplayer server taking place on a single planet to explore and build in sounds right up my alley. A good time sink when you have a few hours to do some building on a large project.
That and they're hopefully done with their growing pains after developing NMS for so many years.
🙂 I watched the Force stream of the Day Before and a couple of other streams. I gotta say - the mottos on the screens when loading different chunks of the game were just wonderful. I mean "The world is full of death and destruction. Wise people know this is just the way the world is." That one just cracked me up. 🤣
Mind you, I felt sorry for any volunteer people who worked hard to develop something for the game.
I like offline progress and online multiplayer where you could jump in to help or join friends without being too far behind. I wish more games have offline worlds, because when I see a game that requires online services, I already know that game has at most 10 years, unless it's popular, like Rust or something else.
Explore vast, open worlds where the magic of LEGO® building and Fortnite collide.
started playing this the survival and building game and its lego lol... building snap could be better but for free on epic games worth a shot
I was just watching Asmongold play The Day Before and i fell asleep. That game is so empty. Could Game of the Year awards be revoked? I would hope so.
more like scam of the year
lol... same... its crazy how well they set up the scam... its crazy and also crazy how many bought it day 1
Since No Man's Sky, I stopped doing pre-order on indie games, unless a demo or game sequel would get me hooked. The only games I've preordered since NMS was Hogwarts Legacy and Remnant 2, and both games I enjoyed and gotten all achievements as proof of that. Thanks to Enshrouded's demo, I can trust the devs and will definitely look forward to leveling up and getting many skills from the skill tree.
Yeah I have never pre ordered a game.. I would enshroud though!
The new game from No man’s sky devs I think looks like it could be really good
I'm waiting for gameplay videos. I don't care if Hello Games fixed their mistake, but I rather wait. They don't get a second chance from me.
the video for Light No Fire is all taken from in game.
I think a lot of those sales were people who had been following the circus that the development cycle was and only got it because lolmemes
Looks interesting
Hope it doesn't need 10 years of development post launch to be worth playing.
No! no! no Bad dog!
Indeed
Just watching the lead of Hello games announce Lite no fires on the game awards and he is already over-reaching. he said everyone can play in the same world together (multiplayer) and the game is only Single player/co-op
Hello are independent? I thought they were bought out by Sony?

What kills me is with the reputation they've painstakingly built for the last decade they could have just come out and said "yeah, we're working on this new thing, more details to come" and people would have been hyped just fine. But that's not how they roll at Hello games
So naturally everyone's already just bracing for a "here we go again" situation
what would you say if you wanted updates to No Mans Sky and they said sorry we have half our team working on a new game?
I said No Mans sky was 10 years old but it's actually 7 or 8. They have been working on Light no fire for 5 years.

that introduction is going to be their meme again
He even promised he would be working on it for 10 years
I haven't seen QUITE the level of promises compared to NMS announcement, but I don't think we'll see it until at least Q4 next year at the very earliest
I'm not too upset about that though, I'd rather them realize the sort of stuff that they can do. Like... fantasy NMS in an awesome idea. Next year is already looking like a lot of good releases.
Yeah, sort of. Maybe more actually MMO-y though. If it's truly a single planet with people all over it and is more MMO than NMS, that would be super cool

What I'm hearing is persistent world but not necessarily MMO, more like something like Genshin where you see a handful of players phasing in and out around you, but obviously way too soon to know
I feel like thats kind of how all MMOs are going to be going forward. WoW popularized the "phasing" idea to make it so things arent overcrowded. Making it feel like a seamless single-server solution is super valuable.
I hope the visible population can be higher than games like Destiny and Genshin though.
Genshin isnt much of an mmo when only like 4 players can be seen together and they have to join your or their world
Destiny you can atleast find other online players by just walking around the maps
I didnt even know people consider Genshin a MMO at all XD
Genshin is fun, but the days of the week for particular drops was a pain to wait through.
Is the single planet mmo going to be gatcha oo?
If they follow the same as they have done with No Man's Sky, then no.
oh man I played Elden Ring again last night
coop mod still absolutely goated
but I'd lost the habit so much that I'm happy I dropped into my friend's level 30 game with a level 65 character
also gave The Finals a try. Very fast FPS, I got my butt handed to me a fair few times. I'll have to try it some more to see if I like it.
Well a lvl 65 character with only vigor leveled will be about as strong as the lvl 30 one
feeling called out here
my lil guy is a brawler with mainly... whatever stat strength is
and endurance/stamina as secondary stats
barely edging out medium load to avoid fat rolls
As long as you pass vigor checks it's fine
So I got Street Fighter 6
And I don't have mains.
Like, in 99% of games I play I don't have mains.
...
But my main is Rashid.
Ra shi DOOOOOOOOOOOO
Will give Finals a try after some balance changes. Heavies are broken
I was sorely disappointed after trying to play light with the carbine and not achieving much
The finals beta was pretty interesting, though in some ways it really didn't feel like it knew what it wanted to be. It seemed to have a bit of an identity crisis with a lot of its features, like having movement that was strangely slow paced and grounded, but also having melee weapon primaries (??), or a lot of the gadgets feeling redundant or not fitting really with the theme of the game overall.
I had fun messing around in it, but something felt off about it to me, was hard to put my finger on what exactly
For example the destruction was very cool, but the player movement was so restrictive that it actually ended up feeling very gimmicky and annoying a lot of the time. For example if somebody blew up a staircase to a tall building, it was physically impossible to get to them without a special mobility gadget. I was surprised they didn't go with a movement more akin to like, titanfall or something
I think the movement being restrictive feels like it's probably meant to lower the difficulty threshold
by like, capping how better players can move around the map
but I don't think it ends up working too well
Yeah it's hard for me to pin it down but the game felt like it didn't have a solid sense of direction. Like it had a lot of designers conflicting with each other on what they wanted it to be.
A lot of the designs almost felt like a designer saying "wouldn't this be cool?" without actually thinking about the greater implications of it lol
It was still a lot of fun though, and I haven't checked it out in several months so maybe it's a lot better
I think it would be a great game mode addition to Apex Legends haha
Keep the Finals faaaaaar away from EA. In fact, that should go for all games.
some of us have worked for EA and have opinions about this statement
I mean EA isn't the best, but also the finals is owned by Nexon who isn't exactly known for being the most consumer friendly company
And yeah honestly I'm not sure if EAs rep is deserved haha, they don't really do anything particularly out of the ordinary in the industry when you compare them to acti-blizz, ubisoft, and many other big publishers
Not attacking the people specifically that worked there. I just don't like the company as a whole.
Them:
Do you just not attack people because you're that nice?
Me:
No. I don't attack cuz I fear their facedown might be mirror force.
I think they had a rather deservedly bad rep, and a lot of other publishers and big devs have since worked overtime (one could say crunched, even. Topical humor! How quaint) to catch up

Ready or Not 1.0 in a couple days!
Yeah, I did co-op randomizer with a couple friends and it was a ton of fun
and The Day Before is now officially done
https://twitter.com/FntasticHQ/status/1734265789237338453
That actually seems... really suspicious
I guess I'm not sure what's going on internally, but it seemed like it got a lot of sales, I find it strange that they somehow "ran out of funds" so quickly
seems more like they just "ran" and took all the money from the sales they already got.
They have a history of doing that with their games, unfortunately
All the blood sweat and tears they poured into plugging store bought unity assets into their map and making a trailer that vastly misrepresented what the game actually was
Literal hours of labor u guyz, feel bad for them
Hopefully Steam issues special refund rules for this game like they did for the original launch of NMS, this is pretty bad lol
I'm surprised they sold even that many, it seemed like a pretty obvious pump n dump to me

they made their mark in gaming history and I see this being used in future college gaming development, business, ethics, and law classes
Thing is, I don't think it would've been review bombed if they had just been like "Yeah, we pivoted to an extraction shooter plan." before release. The biggest problem is that they misrepresented the game and it's not at all a survival MMO.
I mean, that was the big issue but there were many others. It was a buggy mess that wasn't nearly as polished as the early trailers made it seem, they claim 5 years of work but all their assets are store bought, it had significantly less features than they claimed, it goes on
The bait and switch is what people were primarily upset about but you could throw a dart and pick a valid reason
Yea they did didnt even refund the game and got my cash back now!! 🙂
I'm glad to hear that. I've seen a lot of people getting on Steam, saying they shouldn't have allowed the game to launch and the platform should do a better job of ensuring quality and personally, I think it's the opposite. Steam shouldn't be deciding what is and isn't allowed to launch and let the market decide what succeeds and what doesn't
In this case it sounds like Steam is doing the responsible thing that they should be doing: allowed the market to speak, and when they finally determined that something shady was going on, halted all sales and made sure people got their money back
Didn't that game just release?
And it's already dead?
Hmm.
Kudos.
Speed running the system.
I think things were a little better back when Steam actually gatekept what was released on their platform
it's never been a Nintendo Seal of Quality type thing, but it helped spare us from some things
I mean to a degree sure, and I miss curators, but in a case like this I think steam is doing exactly what it should do
I guess. There are many more developers nowadays so attempting to curate this would be ultimately a fruitless endeavor
🙂 Just came across this - I have been playing this off and on while I wait patiently for various releases, lol. It's a nice game to pass the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMVDDqmve-Q&t=565s

I've seen it pop up here and there, it looks really neat
🙂 it's kinda cool. Most of the elements are there and it's a nice game to pass the time with. They've just release a big optimisation patch. 🙂 Kind of sounds familiar, lol. But it's nice to see an indie game going from solo to kickstarter to early release which was genuine as a contrast to other news this week, you know. 🙂
They are just about to go into full release next year.
Sorry I should have said its a survival game lol.
do share screenshots if you've got em!
🙂 ok I will look some up
I have Len's island, it's a good time
I got it like, a year or two ago I think? They've put a lot of work into it, I'll second the recommendation
It's like a blend of chill survival/builder and dungeon crawler
it is official
https://www.ign.com/articles/e3-is-dead-for-good
Eh, E3 has been figuratively dead for years with most major studios just doing directs
It's kind of a bummer to see but with the Internet being what it is now E3 didn't really serve a purpose any more
Yeah they didn't really evolve with the times unfortunately
Yep, 6 weeks-ish
The Day Before was a hyped and highly Steam wishlisted game that ended up being a complete failure. Let's talk about what happened.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, probably the last thing I'll post about it. It's a pretty good overview though
This is just a "what if" but even so, it would be amazing if they did.
https://www.pcgamer.com/ive-never-wanted-anything-more-than-for-larian-to-make-a-star-wars-rpg-in-the-vein-of-baldurs-gate-3/
Man if they could somehow do a KotOR remake/sequel that would be pretty amazing
They've already shown what they can do with BioWare properties
I dunno if they'd go for something other than a CRPG though, isn't KOTOR a 3rd person perspective?
Doesn't mean they couldn't take it in that direction. I think if they did what they do with storytelling and mechnics not too many people would complain
But yeah, strictly speaking it's pretty outside of their wheelhouse
Yeah, it's not really their jam, but they might try something new.
you can play Baldurs Gate close to a 3rd person perspective. If you zoom the camera all the way in, it focuses on the person you are currently controlling.
Plus I mean, sure you can say it's sci-fi and they don't really do that, but Star Wars is just fantasy in space. Swords, magic, alignment archtypes. Swap light sabers for longswords and blasters for crossbows and you're there. The force is basically magic and it even has different, opposing "schools"
It's honestly not so far-fetched when you think about it
Only shame is I really don't see them operating under all that corporate oversight, I think that's the thing beyond anything else that makes it unlikely
well most of that "corporate" oversight has been moved out of the way, thankfully.
If you think Disney is easier to deal with than Lucasarts, you've got another thing coming
I worked on SWTOR for BioWare both before and after Disney purchased the ip
It did NOT get easier after!
no, more talking about kathleen kennedy not having as much say with anything star wars now that Dave Filoni has been premoted.
I will wait for that pudding, see if there's any proof in it
We got some great and really not so great Star Wars content in the last few years
But for every Andor and Mandalorian, there's a few more that aren't really very good
but you cant eat your pudding if you havent eaten your meat
What if it's blood pudding

Sponsored, so ready your salt shakers, but the idea sounds cool
even when sponsered, Force is good at saying his opinion on a game.
I thought Once Human was a stale Remnant clone at first, but seeing the depth of crafting and upgrades, it does has some interesting goals and incentives for exploration.
Closest thing I can say is that it looks like what The Day Before was advertising itself to be 😝
But it's like... actually doing the thing.
Yeah, imo Force does a pretty good job of not shilling for games he wouldn't otherwise find interesting. More throwing that out because due to it being sponsored he's naturally going to gloss over the negatives and gush a bit at the positives
Too soon 😄
Too late
Is too late too soon, or is too soon too late? 🤔
Finally grabbing it. Been dragging my heels but it's on sale for $20
I loved Thymesia so it's been on my radar, but I really like the idea of a Soulslike that that isn't trying to be "darker" than Dark Souls and also isn't trying to be a lolmeme
Like, I really want the genre to expand beyond "it either has to be Batman serious or it has to be the Joker". There are a lot of good storytelling points in between those extremes
I feel like Lords of the Fallen tried to be edgier than Dark Souls and it made the game feel ironically soulless
You don't need to be in a dark decaying world to be a good action game
I mean, that's what it boils down to. If anything, Dark Souls to me initally felt like a "Monster Hunter-like" in the sense that it had very deliberate combat that punsished mistakes heavily, but always made it feel like it was your fault. That was the charm
All it did was expand that into a (confusing) narrative structure
Yep, and you can have that just as easily in any other setting using melee weapons
Hell, even Remnant figured it out with guns
I mean, Monster Hunter is the epitome of Japanese light-hearted comedy but it knew how to instill a sense of tension and dread without hanging corpses from the ceiling. It did it by making the player feel it, not by telling the player they should feel it
I mean, if you've ever been on a Rathalos run and heard Betelgeuse roar in the distance, it's that feeling
B52 BagleGoose is definitely the most terrifying of monsters in the early game
As a long time MH fan, it was so wonderful to see MHW be Capcom's best selling game ever like 2 months after release. I'm hoping the MHW comes out simultaneously on PC
Even on late runs. He's such an obnoxious monster if you aren't hunting him specifically
I mean, even when you are hunting him specifically he's a huge pain
When you're trying to take down Kushala Daora and BG shows up it just ruins your mood man
haha
You're all "Alright, I ate the right food, I have the right charms, my armor is good, lets- BWARRRRRR .....dammit"
I'll take Pickle Jho over that
SS of a modder in MHW turning Deviljho into an actual pickle because of course they did
Star Citizen's Alpha 3.22: Wrecks to Riches update brings playable content to the PU, including support for structural salvage, 15 new Derelict Settlements, three new vehicles to pilot including the San’tok.yai fighter, new locations for the Jumptown PvP event, updates for the in-game Arena Commander module, and more. Watch the latest trailer fo...
This game has been in alpha so long that the alpha is legally required to do 2 years of military service
Next trailer: "Alpha gets summoned for jury duty"
so I tried out Rust for 30 min. I threw the rock I started with by accident and couldn't find any stone to pick up, so I gave up after wandering around aimlessly and refunded the game. Enshrouded is a million times better already.
What kills me is the devs behind Rust and 7D2D trying to dunk on The Day Before. 1) Both of your games have issues that haven't been addressed in a decade, but also, 2) Early access failures like that set the entire genre back because it harms consumer trust
Like, neither of you have the right or the reason to celebrate that
I wouldn't mind if like, the devs behind My Time at Portia said something. But freaking Rust? Clean your own house before you call someone else's house dirty
i'll celebrate this when it gets approved
I know all games have hiccups at early access/alpha stages, but seeing how smooth Enshrouded was at 36fps, was amazing, actually. I could fight, travel, and build comfortably without needing to worry about the future of the game.
I see 7D2D as ok, but it seems like a game that's meant to be with friends.
Both are games that have coasted for far too long because they've been the only viable options in their particular niche
If you want that zombie survival multiplayer experience, you can basically choose one or the other
i chose Infestation: NewZ
valheim was my first positive experiance with ea
Astroneer and Valheim were both the only positive experience with EA. I'm sure Enshrouded would be, too.
valheim to me felt like a done game when it was in "early access".
i suppose the way they made the game with each new biome adding to the older ones made it so that most of the systems were finished. they just needed to expand on it. i have high hope that enshrouded is the same
It's the difference between having a fully thought out vision and working forward vs having a rough idea and working backwards
well only progression based games can be like this is it not
generally i take early access to mean the game is still under heavey development and not yet beta state but we need money to make it. so please buy now rather than wait for the game to finish and come out

Playing that
playing that
Seen this. Very interesting I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a buggy mess. Because that's what this company is known for lol
Very true but they are also known for sticking with it to sort it out so 50/50
I'll wait a year or 2 once released 😉
don't blame you. I held off buying NMS until I could get it for next to nothing on a sale
I'm one of thos "Make the game look beautiful all you want. If it don't run right I won't touch it" lol
Like ark for example
Looks great
But won't ever touch it lol
😂
If Light No Fire ends up lile NMS, it wint be super buggy or have bad performance, it will just be a bit hollow on release.
doesn't matter to me, I'm never preordering another HelloGames product again.
The only games I've pre ordered in the last 10 years were Zelda: TotK and Monster Hunter Rise. Nothing else has warrented my trust
Primarily because I don't think either has had a 'bad' release. There were some entries I liked more than others, but I've never played an objectively bad game in either franchise
My bad, I also pre ordered Metroid Dread. That's it though
I'm glad, the only games I've preordered in the past 10 years were No Man's Sky, Hogwarts Legacy, and Remnant 2. The last 2 games were great, but I lost all trust with Hello Games, since. I'm waiting for reviews and gameplay footage 1 week after release, before deciding if its worth a try/price.
Can't say I blame you, that experience would be enough to put me off pre-ordering from a company, even if they did make it right later
Unless I know I will play the game, I stopped pre-ordering too. Doesn't seem worth it when I can wait for a few reviews and playthroughs
Also what's the point of preordering in the digital age, it's not like they're going to run out of copies or something
In the digital age, the main purpose of preordering is to demonstrate hype for a product IMO. Companies still use preorders as a metric in figuring the value of a franchise, along with sales and reviews
A preorder is demonstrating to the company that you have strong interest in the product
if the demo was great, or available on steam 24/7, then I'd preorder Enshrouded, too. I want to see the price first, though.
yeah, the consumers care less and less about corporate metrics, wishlisting accomplishes the same purpose without the exchange of funds at the consumer's risk. Let's promote the more consumer friendly option.
It's not why I preordered, it's just what the point is. In those cases, I preordered because I had faith in those particular products and I knew I was going to buy it anyhow
It just meant that when they came out, all I had to do was pick up, download, and play
can't you do the same thing day 1 regardless? buy/download/play? unless you collect phyiscal media
I can, sure. In most cases I do. It's just in those very limited cases I knew I was going to buy them. That's a significant distinction because I can honestly say I don't "know" if I'm going to buy most games, I just have a strong feeling that I will
But I still take a wait and see approach
I always preorder collectors for games from studios i like
those always have good preorder stuff in it
In the case of Zelda, Monster Hunter, and Metroid (with the exception of Other M) they've demonstrated for multiple decades that they can consistently put out a quality polished product on day one. Most devs and products can't say that
Yeah, that's the bummer of things going digital. No more 'feelies'
FF7 Rebirth statue of Sephiroth is sick
same with the statue of Jin for Tekkan 8
Tekken*
Monster Hunter has had a few sweet statues over the years, but they were JP only afaik -.-
And an arm and a leg otherwise
physical stuff is nice if you are the collector type
I think they should sell it a la carte though
Yeah, im hoping Wilds has a fun statue or something
capcom collector stuff is alright.. I have the SF6 Collectors from this year
The Nergigante statue for the PS4 release of MHW was pretty sweet
Yeah! That is pretty awesome!!!
@everyone - episode 4 will come out at 10pm Central (about 40 mins from now) - may not be in 4k yet, but I wanna give you what you're promised!! Episode 5 will follow at 10am Central tomorrow (12/17/23). Binge it! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_6M7vZOr6ODzu3RI0hujWnNnBAUn7A-R

Unity lays off staff and strips another team for parts, Activision has a spooky patent, and much more from across the game industry.
So...
Stuff like this is why AAA is gross (not the Unity story, the one at the timestamp I posted about Activision)
Now i can wait for Enshrouded release 😄
I'm constantly playing New builds, I haven't completed the third act yet! 😦
bullcrap aquisitions cause of sudden invester mooney away from your core without much thought always leads to the unity situation later on.
let's not talk about Embracer

Context, Bro. This came a maximum of two messages later regarding my original one.
also this doesn't look like a mechanic for your fortress or bases getting besieged, but just something where there are fortresses in the world and you sort of storm your way in?
Exactly. And you besiege them.
if you just waltz your way up the wall and storm them I'm not sure I'd call that a siege
since you know, "siege" means "seat", as in "you sit on your ass for a while while the defenders slowly starve and become amenable to your terms"
Seems more like a Trebuchet packet, what we had as "siege engine" in the second link
I'm not sure, it looks like it's holding a chest or something. Hard to tell
To me it looks more like a counterweight to the projectile's hurling
you look like a counterweight
And now you start insulting.
it's figurative
a counterweight to the truth, if you will
always pushing it slightly askance
I mean... That's how AoE II did it. It seems some inspiration comes from there.
legitimately cannot tell if this a model or a full scale thing
wait those are leaves I'm silly
I think you need to have your spatial vision tested.
It could be full scale we dont know how tall CUB is
Riiight. He's a hedgehog. Sometimes I forget.
This the new grounded update?
So, I started playing Grim Dawn
And good gosh, it is some kind of fun.
There's *so gaddam many options to pick from and I just happened to pick a combination that feels rather potent.
I lovingly refer to it as:
Necromancer with a gun.
And it does exactly what you think it does.
Aoe damage? ✅️
Single target dps? ✅️
Minions? ✅️
CC? ✅️
Healing? ✅️
And on top of it all...
I get to shoot things, then make them help me kill their friends.
What better joy in life is there?
I'll tell you:
Playing street fighter 6 as Rashid.
Using his SF5 theme song
Grim Dawn is definitely good, though the graphics are starting to feel a bit old for me
I think a much bigger joy is spending 20+ hours staring at path of building and gaming forums trying to craft the perfect build in path of exile, only to play that build for dozens of hours and discover that it's completely garbage and unusable in maps, and then you look on the forums to see if anyone else has tried it, only to find that someone else made the same exact build as you but better in literally every single way and you could have just followed their extensive and highly detailed build guide.
And then you rage quit only to come back in a few months for the new league and do it all again
Rofl me copters
Someone's been playing since beta.
I can usually at least make builds that'll get me to red maps, which is usually enough time for me to get bored of the league/gameplay loop, then I'll try something new next league.
My biggest critique of POE is that usually by the time I get my build into maps I am bored of it and want to play a new build, but I also have no desire to grind another character up from level 0 lol
but yeah been playing since beta obviously
Not nearly as much as some people though, I'm guessing my playtime probably isn't in the 4 digits yet (but idk because I don't play on Steam)
Yeah, I feel that. Especially since POE has a propensity towards one-button builds. Right clicking over and over while occasionally instantly dying sometimes stops being interesting after a while.
Last Epoch has been a really good midpoint between the complexity of POE and the smoothness of gameplay of something like D4
Yeah at this point I'm just waiting for poe2 since the one button meta seems to be going away... In theory lol
Knowing POE players though the most meta build in s1 will probably be a movement ability or something that somehow one shots everything
Yeah, for me one of the challenges is I can take builds so far, then I look at more "complete" builds and they've got all sorts of weird shit I never considered. The jewels from Legion, uniques that interact in weird ways to boost damage by 5000%, stuff like that
Building using things like that requires a certain depth of game knowledge that I just don't have

Looks like Sea of Thieves + Battleship? Could be fun
Lord of The Rings Return to Moria is half price on Epic, if anyone wants to give it a shot. It's a low to average rating of survival with underwhelming combat mechanics. Restricted to only the Epic Game stores, until the unforseeable future.
Probably worth it if you're super bored, but its pretty low on my list until it gets some much needed love, like dedicated server support.
really selling it there
I'm an honest reviewer
my friends had a good time with it! I watched them play a bit and there's a couple of really cool features in there
like the fact the dwarves start singing when mining
it's silly but I like it
I heard the raid is a bit too much though. Base gets raided even if you are nowhere near. Is that true?
I can't say I've seen that part in action

Refund still works, at least.
They will generally give no questions asked refunds within 2 hours/14 days (exceeding either limit probably means you won't get one).
I've actually never heard of someone being within those limits and having a refund request denied
I buy indie games pretty liberally for that reason, usually without looking into them much. If I launch it and it's not what I expected within an hour or two I just refund it, no harm done to me or the developer. I think it's a solid system because it makes a lot of people more comfortable buying games they might not have otherwise if there was no refunds.
My only complaint is that for developers with really short games it can be abused against them, which is a bummer
I'm glad.
Someone on youtube refunded Resident Evil 2 after speedrunning it and getting all achievements within 2 hours.
TBH the refund policy is a big part of why there isn't more noise about Steam effectively having a monopoly on digital PC gaming
Also I mean, most of the negative impacts of their monopoly impact devs, not users. And there's not many of us to cry on twitter lol
That's fair too. They've been very careful to not impact users as much as possible
Devs, not so much
I know it would hurt steam reviews. They are usually about performance issues more than game mechanics.

2025
Yesssss gimme dat simultaneous pc release
let's see them screenshots
Dying Light 2 can be beautiful sometimes
it's all because of the multiple choices which will affect the gameplay
yeah
brown is the villager guys
Blue is the Military guys
Red is the bandits guys
this playthrough i chose to max out the Survivors the brown
they have like the parkour elements if you give them a part of the town
i honestly recommend this game a lot same as the first part
can you still play it co-op?
i didn't get to try it though as i don't have anyone to play with
it's lowkey more fun running at night now
screaming of terror while crashing through a roof
man this really makes me want to give it a spin
especially because i chose a filter which makes the nights a lot darker
oh no
i just realized i apparently had the Windowed mode on
and i love how they made the 2 maps
one of them is really made for the paraglider and such things and parkour while the 2nd small one is made for parkour only
what's all this snowflakey stuff in the middle?
it's from the winter event the whole map is with snow now
and there's some new zombies and such
it's on a 50% discount as of right now, so if you want to try it you should get the game now
ok
and when you do the parkour non-stop a little soundtrack will start playing and it's honestly so good
if there's a little soundtrack, then obviously I'm in
Dying Light 2 Stay Human OST Soundtrack
Composer Olivier Deriviere
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMDF-5alXSppLkpKNZcYT8w/featured
wait, that's wrong
that;s the soundtrack you get while climbing the highest building
wait no it is the right one
that's what the comments are saying
later on it was added as the music which plays during parkour
and what i love is when you jump far then the music will like
i can't explain it
This song is easily one of my favorites, and I'm SO glad it is a dynamic parkour song now
and when you enter a building to run through it the music will be as if you were underwater
i honestly like every part about the music
Dying light 2 has to be my top 1 and Dying Light 1 has to be my 2nd
i just love running through the city
i hate these
but i love them too
"you guys stay safe I will handle this"
when there's like a arrow which splits into two it means this will affect how the game goes
i hope i did the right decision..
anyone here play icarus?
Upwards of $300
Right? Like, of all the games you could scalp
I mean
I suspect that if you could sell tickets to the Fyre festival to people who knew it was an ongoing trash fire doubled with a car crash
people's morbid curiosity would have taken over
So I was playing Grim Dawn and I found the first major boss fight.
That makes 2 enemies I've found that we're capable of killing me.
He didn't. ☝️
But he tried.
He was damn close too.
But necromancer with a gun is not going to be taken out so easily.
So what he has a ranged attack that stuns me and takes off 2/3rds od my health.
I wasn't sweating.
Spamming my minions to try and take his attention off me for 2 seconds.

hope he stubs his toe multiple times a day for the rest of his life
https://youtu.be/jeLMj3dPSQc i cant wait for Enshrouded.. the detail in the game will be unmatched. if i can do this in valhiem the posabilitys are endless in Enshrouded !
I thought it was a church until I saw there was a head table
it's like a castle hall where watching the lord eat is a spectator sport
except for the fact that in Enshrouded you build structures along the voxel grid, yes, you can build all that
I did with my buddies. I wasn't allowed outside unsupervised. Something something forest fires.
🤣🤣 Sounds like Icarus. Its a nice game but a bit boring without other players
https://media.tenor.com/yfphYgy4S1oAAAAM/shang-tsung-it-has-begun.gif
steam winter sale is live
i forgor about this ty ty
EDF5 for $17 seems decent
Installed Star Citizen on the new PC and actually happy with how well it runs. Didnt fall through any ships or die to weird things this time
Game actually looks really good visually and its nice to not have so many loading screens
Took a SS as my friends and I flew off planet
cutty black lookin' cool tbh
Oh War Thunder forums.
It cracks me up that it just keeps happening xD
Though credit to their pursuit of absolute realism
At least this time it doesn't seem like it was someone risking a court martial to win a discord argument with (probably) 16 year olds
Relink seems interesting, especially the co-op aspect. I want more JRPG co-op
Actually one of my favorite games is a mobile MMO that is only available in Japan now called Celes Arca. You could run around like a normal MMO, but when you got into a battle it was JRPG turn based like Final Fantasy, and other players could see your battle in the overworld and join if they wanted. It was really cool and unique and I'm disappointed there arent other games like it
And even if other players joined, it was still JRPG style turn based. It was really cool
It meant some waiting between turns but with a good party it made for some really awesome boss fights
sounds like toontown's combat system
Yeah, but minus the DIsney/Tex Avery overtones
tex avery?
Frederick Bean "Tex" Avery was an American animator, cartoonist, director, and voice actor. He was known for directing and producing animated cartoons during the golden age of American animation.

Yeah. Thats my friends Cutty Black. I sold my cutty blue to get a bunch of other lifetime ships haha
My three biggest are the Connie Phoenix, Carrack, and Orion.
Any good new pc survival game?
Or in elarly access
you like the survival part or more into building?
Both
I've heard about this one called Enshrouded. Seems pretty neat.
war thunder fans and world of tanks fans on who gets to leak the most to win a argument
It still elarly access
have you checked out Medieval Dynasty?
there is nightinggale also that is coming out in feb
both medival and sengoku dynasty are on sale
not exactly a survival game, but you should try dwarf fortress
I'm considering getting The Front, but haven't decided yet tbh
I'm personally waiting for The Back and The Sides to come out first
Not new but I have been playing Necesse lately and its a lot of fun. Survival top down terraria settlement sim.
its on sale on steam atm for $5 USD

This is slowly becoming my favorite recurring YT series
That youtuber got me into Blue Fire and Death's Door. I didn't like Death's Door as much, but it was ok to experience once.
He got Thymesia and Asterigos on my radar
Thymesia was a bit rough before the recent update, but Asterigos is definitely a gem. I won't say 'hidden' because it actually got a lot of press
But just as much it's fun watching him slog through all the shovelware 'souls-likes' on steam xD
Iron Pineapple is great
Good to know have a new Iron Pineapple video to watch when I wake up tomorrow.
Thanks
Thanks
Yeah but who hasn't already got it?
Should I buy Payday 3? 25% off
Never mind it's a done deal
If you are a Payday 2 veteran I would really like to know how you find Payday 3
I'll let you know. Yep I have played The Heist and Payday 2
Me actually, only have fallout 4
get it it's free but don't expecting anything better than you got in Fallout 4
48k USD!? Screw that game!
"Game"
Sounds like an investment in stupidity.
scam citizen
was just playing it yesterday and was having a good time haha
seems like it made some decent progress... 100 server cap now and performance wasn't too bad. Im averaging around 70 FPS
Funny.
Image only included for the gullible.
Also $16k Is minimum wage in America?
In the UK It's £18,964
Payday 3 is good.
People complained about matchmaking for solo. It takes a while but that is also map loading.
Feels good to get your first Solo stealth run.
$15,080 a year salary for minimum wage if you work 40 hours a week. $7.25 per hour. My first job at least paid $11/hr.
My First Job paid £16k a year and my last job paid £11k.
everyone is suffering
my last job was minimum wage + pay rises.
that's a bit better. Effort = value
I was able to sleep through my last job and often did.
ISP Tech support in case your wondering
Just on average, it's very very regional. In CA the minimum wage is around $30k a year
In a place like Utah or Kansas it's much lower than that
That's the thing with the states, you have to take every statistic in the context of the State
That's kind of what I expected. I think $16k minimum wage is pretty good. I have no idea where the UK get's £18k from but I would imagine it's a London only wage
The mimimum wage is across the whole UK, not limited to London at all
Although that's probably England specifically, I'd need to look into if Scotland/Wales/NI are different
No there is a massive boost for anyone working in London. As I said my last job wich was 10 years ago was Minimum wage and the wage rises I got kept my just above minimum wage.
Oh damn I never knew that
Stand me corrected sorry
It makes sense considering the insane cost of living there
LOL NP. I also didn't mention I live in Scotland
Same, England is an enigma to me 🤣
I dabbled in Games testing while working my last job and it helped pay for stuff. If I had done it full time It would have doubled Minimum wage.
Niiiiiice, you really need something like that on mimimum wage, it's just about enough to scrape by in most places
yeah work was never guaranteed with freelance games testing so I had to take a minimum wage job and fit the games testing around my shifts when I could unfortunately the minimum wage job stopped me from doing a lot of tests and the ones I could fit in caused me to be so tired while at work I actually fell asleep on calls to customers while resolving their Internet troubles. I still fixed their issues though
I can only see people working 2 full time jobs, just to live in the USA on minimum wage. There is no way minimum wage is enough. Even slightly above, you'd never have money for traveling, cosmetic pleasures, or kids.
That's how it happens here in Cali. Even with one of the country's highest wage rates, many people have to work multiple jobs just to stay afloat. Frankly you're pretty blessed if you can get by on a 40 hour work week
Makes me glad to be raised in Texas.
In the UK Our current Prime minister is soo proud of reducing the amount of people in absolute poverty but ignores the fact that there are now more people in relative poverty under their council it's the highest it's been for generations. Soo many families on the brink of dropping into absolute poverty.
Sobering thoughts at Christmas
lol
I'm off to poke at some Sausage Rolls for dinner!
Have fun!
Poke poke
checking out Craftopia since it was on sale and actually pretty enjoyable but I was wondering if anybodys played The Front and what their opinion was on it
I've played Craftopia, but stopped when it lagged my world, because of automation.
Been playing Grim Dawn and Street Fighter VI.
Might not have much time for gaming rn. But oh boy are they fun.
the front is good if you have friends. interesting mix of survival/pvp/pve. Plus the way they do the pve surges is a nice tower defense mode that is fun.
So, I picked up Elden Ring again and just made it to Farum Azula, but I had to fight a dragon that popped up. Killed me so many times, so I added poison weapon, fire and lightning resistance incantations and finally killed the thing with the poison. I hate this game, but I like overcoming its challenges.
I feel you. I had to take a break from Asterigos earlier because I fought my way through two bosses, got to the final boss, got stuck on some scenery and couldn't dodge out when he was below 1/3HP, and it put me back to fight all 3 again. I'll be going back in but I both love and hate this genre sometimes
-sigh- This list hasn't changed in 84 years
Not that I take MMOByte remotely seriously, but in this case he's not wrong
I do not believe a new MMO would enter that list. Everything new is a copy n paste with less features.
The Outer Worlds is the free Christmas day game in the Epic Store.
That seems worth finally reinstalling EGS
it is also the spacers addition which comes with all of the DLC
Man, I forgot I still have Control, Frost Punk, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider to play through on there 😂
Every steam sale my list of to play keeps increasing . . . Sigh
Yeah, I buy a game then go back to playing rimworld, it's an addiction
I really want to play Rogue Trader, but I just keep playing Ark
EGS has some really fantastic games they give out
just going from A-D... the list of free games have been pretty good
I bought Alan Wake 2 haha
i wish they gave that out for free XD
Man, I missed the Batman games. Then again did they ever fix Arkham City on PC?
I can't remember what was wrong with it tbh haha
All kinds of stuff. Bugs, bad optimization/framerate issues, etc
i remember one getting in a lot of trouble that htey had to remove it for a time?
if im remembering it right
its been forever haha
Yeah, that was City. It was a whole uproar
People saying they made the PC version intentionally shoddy vs console, etc
wait was it City or Knight?
cuz im googling atm.. and people mention Knight
i do remember what you are talking about though.... so it was def one of them ahaha
maybe both!
Could be both. Knowing WB, probably both xD
Yeah, that's part of the big draw
i always thought it was just a division knockoff XD
Actually Force did a whole episode on it
Once Human is a new Open World MMO Looter Shooter that feels like a mix of Division, Defiance, and Secret World with some Survival mechanics thrown in. After playing for the past few days, here's an overview of the game. Learn more about Once Human here: https://bit.ly/3GJKKSA To try the Beta, check out this link: https://www.oncehuman.game/ Tha...
How is it so far?
actually pretty enjoyable but im not very far yet
just started building my base
the server im on isn't super new but i already see a bunch of bases all over the place haha
Only turn off to me is it's that whole PvPvE situation and I work full time so I'm no competition for a squad of sweaty teenagers with disposable time
yea
i picked up some item that i was supposed to being to a thing to "cleanse." and it auto put me int pvp for it
i threw it away because it auto flagged me to pvp but i haven't even started my base or made gear XD
I actually really like pvp though but definitely dispoable time gives huge advantages to "taking over" a server
I wouldn't mind if those types of games had some kind of safe zone, like you're good deep in faction territory etc but PVP happens as you venture way out. I'm just not in for a Rust situation where you're rebuilding from zero every time you log in because a squad of giggling 13 year olds decided to burn down your little shack
That's why we play Ark on private servers now. Not worth the pain.
Once Human does look pretty good though, I'm sad I didn't get into the beta
@tepid wadi if you are on their discord they have been giving out codes the last few days for the Holidays
Yeah, I picked one up last night
First come first serve. There is a channel for it. They pumped out loke 3600 codes or something in the last two daya
Nice!!!
Im not far but its definitely interesting. It gives me Secret World vibes in terms of theme haha
for those into modding fallout 4. This one is just a couple of months away.

oh I played the Frostpunk board game, which I got for my partner a few years back from their kickstarter
it is verrrry complex but fairly straightforward
and that inspired me to try out Frostpunk itself, which I'd never touched before
good fun

Played it in 2018
and your not going to want to play all 50 games listed
thank god
You're welcome.
That's my job.
Right now all i want is to play enshrouded, it has such a grip over me, gonna be so good when it comes out
I've had that in my library "to-do" list for a while, I'll have to give it a spin soon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGb1d20KELs There's a retro design craze that's gripping multiple industries, from fashion to music to gaming. The latter is probably one of the most prolific sectors, spewing out new designs based on old models every year or sometimes more than once a year. Regardless of the origin, almost all these retro gaming ...
Can I play Enshrouded on it?!?
B-better wait some time until he'll crush our hopes.
no noooo don't let the hype get to you
That thing has more vram than most of your PCs according to all the whining
honestly I expect the game to not be great and devoid of content lasting more than 10 hours (outside building)
Hopefully I'm wrong
I just cant help it, demo was so good alone
ma'am imma need you to settle down and forget all about that "demo" stuff
The demo has been gone for so long, I don't know how to breathe anymore.
Also, am I allowed to spill my dopamine now, CUB?
only in the containers it's intended for
demo wasn't even the real game, Enshrouded is releasing as an Isometric Tactical Business RPG where you can speculate on pricing and constantly reach out to colleagues about when your projects will release. It's already out
the old bait and switch
that's The Enshrouded Experience, only available at discord dot gg slash enshrouded
and it's just me doing cartwheels and clowning in front of 30k very patient folks
I'm not excited at all. I don't even want to play the game and every day I hop on this server I hope for an announcement that the game is delayed...
... indefinitely.
Anybody play Satisfactory?
OMG!
Playing Payday 3 Solo Under the Surphaze on Hard Managed to collect everything except the main mission target because I couldn't find a safe. Even searched the building 6 times in stealth and 4 times with Cops chasing me still couldn't find it so crashed the mission and googled it!
I AM SEETHING!!!!
It's in such an obvious place as well 😦

It's time to talk about the Stormgate, a game by former Starcraft developers who took matters into their own hands.
From the devs of Command and Conquer, Starcraft 2, and Warcraft 3. LFG
Corepunk recently had an Alpha test, during which I got the chance to play a ton. How's this upcoming, top-down, open world MMO looking? Let's take a look. Thanks to Artifical Core for sponsoring this video, learn more about Corepunk here: https://bit.ly/3tHQ5XE
This has my interest
I played the last test. Was interesting but definitely has a long way to go to get anywhere close to as successful as Albion Online
My big disappointment is that we're still doing MMOs like DOTA with click to move. Back in the early 00s I played an action game, it was basically a top down FPS called Infantry, and they had really smooth WASD movement with mouse to 'steer' and aim. Multiple classes as well. IDK why MMOs can't seem to get on board with that
It is still super early on but its not solo friendly at all. Leveling was super slow. It took me about six hours to hit lvl 4. Talked to a streamer and he spent 8 hours to hit that... a lvl 5 said it took him 20 hours haha
Personally I'm OK with a slow burn as long as the payoff is there, like endgame feels fun and having a full skill set is rewarding
