As mentioned in the title, there's a frustrating bug that causes me to lose instantly when it occurs simply because my character falls, even though I'm not in "keep your feet on the ground" mode. NPCs can get back up when they fall, but my character can't, so it ends the fight for no reason and prevents me from enjoying it.

I'd also like to say that I think this game mode should be removed, or at least we should be able to choose between different modes. It's not that it's a bad idea, but personally, I find it makes fights too rushed, especially if you lose stupidly just because your character slips and falls.

I think especially in ranks like man at arms or higher, my character falls just because of his own weight and a stupid step. You can't move as freely as in the lower ranks and that makes sense but in my opinion you should be able to move around without just falling down because of a small hill in the forest or something like that.

Yes, I agree. I'm all for the possibility of falling, since the game is based on physics and that's what makes it unique, but they need to fine-tune all those little details so we don't fall at the slightest gust of wind or the smallest pebble on the ground.

Besides, I think we fall too easily when fighting with our fists. When a punch lands to the side of the body, the character is on the verge of being thrown to the ground, even if the blow barely grazes them. I think the characters should have better physical stability.

I couldn't agree more, I think if the characters stance would be more stable and the overall stability was slightly higher I would enjoy this game even more. In my opinion Willie could use a bit more stamina when wearing heavy armor. My man's getting too dizzy too fast. I know this correlates with your strength and muscle but I think there's a bit of a lack of growth in the middle rank segment (ranks like Soldier and Veteran).

You have to record a video of this happening in another game mode

I'm not new to the game; I know it very well. This problem has occurred several times even when I wasn't in "keep your feet on the grounds" mode.

It happened to me when that game mode hadn't been displayed during the black loading screen before the fight. I had knocked some NPCs to the ground, who then got back up, and when I fell just once, it displayed "lost." I don't know how to save it anyway.

Yeah exactly, it's just the early access so we don't have to worry that it'll stay like this forever. Thankfully people are working on this. I thought it was intended that the character is out of breath really fast so you can't "abuse" this feature to win the whole time. You may argue that the character is still out of breath to fast even if it is intended but I think it's good because the game should be a challenge for the player. If it would be too easy, it would be no fun to win. I think the fact that you experience deaths here and there increases the replayability tremendously. You can see that it's the same with games like Minecraft. The developer has to pin point the exact point where frustration keeps the player motivated and not annoyed and I think that the developers reached the goal in this point to give out some positive feedback among all the criticism.

Yes, you've said it all, that's the key point of the game. It's true that this could be the purpose of the "limited" slow motion, because despite liking slow motion, I don't use it much. Sometimes I do because it's fun and the effect is stylish, but most of the time I don't.

I also thought that, in general, it would be overpowered to use it every time to progress; it would remove the challenge, I think. You're right, maybe they did it this way so that the slow motion has a limit, so there's always a challenge, because that's part of the fun. This slow motion would allow you to try and land a precise attack or avoid one to gain an advantage without it necessarily being cheating.

Then again, for certain game modes, I wouldn't be against the idea of having longer slow motion, just for fun in fights that don't require any commitment, like free mode.

Ideally, the slow motion could already be more... As a long game, it would be up to each person to decide how they want to play, but it's true that personally in a "progression mode" I think you shouldn't overuse it so as not to spoil the suspense of defeat, but everyone does as they please.

That's actually a great idea. I didn't think of that at all. Maybe they could implement a new game mode where it's like a larger tournament or something without meta progression, I think there it would make perfect sense. But the game mode should be different from free mode. I think of something like real progression for you and your opponents. Maybe a something that starts with beggar mode and every two to three wins you progress to a new rank. Before fighting you can choose your weapons and armor but it's limited to only this rank (no ranks below your rank because of oversight of options). It'd be like the progression mode but much faster and without save. I think that would be much fun. What's your opinion on that?

Personally, I think that overall, regarding the progression system, there should be additional classes above the Baron, with a final battle that makes us feel like we've reached the top, culminating in an epic fight like becoming a king or emperor (if I want to exaggerate a bit). This epic battle should mark the end of a true saga. There needs to be a long and challenging progression where we can clearly feel our character evolving and bite the dust to become a warrior, with more traps and opportunities.

The fights should be unpredictable and challenging, meaning we could, for example, find ourselves fighting hand-to-hand against multiple opponents in an area filled with spike traps, pitfalls, and other hazards. There should be several possible combat configurations, almost like trials, in addition to the new locations to come.

Regarding the idea that we would restart the entire progression if we lose, I think this could be easily achieved by implementing difficulty levels, the maximum of which would be something like "extreme" for the bravest or most daring players, depending on the term chosen to describe the difficulty level. XD

Yes, I felt a bit underwhelmed by the baron too. It was “just another fight”. I like the style of fight you’re describing. It’s sounds like much fun and a real challenge. In regards of difficulty, I think if something like an Elden Ring boss. The “pattern” of the boss should be hard to recognize. This should be a real challenge at the end of the day.

Thanks, yes, they should make the NPCs more intelligent, able to feint, kick more, and defend themselves on the ground. This leads me to believe that the combat system, especially the fistfights, still needs improvement. I made a post about it hoping the devs would see it.

I think they should improve the guard system for hand-to-hand combat, so that our character, including NPCs, can better protect themselves and take a bit of a beating. Perhaps even a button to dodge in a specific direction. They should also improve kicks so we can strike from the sides, sweeps, and other attacks. Ground defense should be improved, and the ability to perform throws and break limbs like in martial arts should be added. I'd love to be able to hit with elbows and knees too, but I have a feeling it would be complicated to implement.

Another detail that would make combat more intense would be the ability to defend ourselves with almost any object, like in Paint the Town Red, with a "lifespan" system for these objects. We could use them when unarmed against an armed opponent and break the object in their face, adding even more of a "fight for survival" aspect where we defend ourselves as best we can, no matter the cost. due to the random circumstances of the fights.

All of this, combined with an AI that defends itself better and can adapt, would create a more stressful, realistic, random, and challenging experience, in addition to being even more satisfying, in my opinion. The enemies could even grab objects from us when we're far away and throw them back at us, now that I think about it.

I think with all you're describing it would be too much actually. I quite like the "simpelness" of the fist fights but I have another suggestion.

I'm sorry but if I'm being honest, I don't like the idea of items with a lifespan in a game mode like fist fights. I think there are better options for this. If they add a "tavern" map, that would be the perfect place for a playstyle you're describing.

They could maybe add more elements of wrestling for the fist fights. I want to be able to pick my opponent up and smash him into something if you get me.

Overall I agree with the idea of a smarter AI but they should add this after the performance is fixed. Otherwise it would be laggy even more.

I understand. For me, the idea of destructible objects would be a game mode choice. The player could choose whether they want to engage in "types" of combat where anything goes and everyone beats everyone else up, especially a tavern map which I would love, reminiscent of the Spoiler Mode. Perhaps players could choose between a "brute force" mode that includes these brutal tactics even in fistfights, or a "normal" mode where fighting is done normally. Since it's a fighting game, and a realistic one at that, there needs to be a range of game modes and diverse choices to satisfy as many players as possible, including the craziest ones (maybe like me XD).

So I think we could have a game mode with "destructible objects" that the player can choose, and a mode without destructible objects. I came up with this idea because I'm interested in this realism and savagery, and I think it fits a game like this. I also would have liked to see destructible windows with shards of glass that can cause injury and that you could potentially pick up to fight with. But you could choose whether to enable or disable this feature; it would be up to the player. So, for example, if you didn't want to play in this mode, you could simply disable it or something similar and still play freely. Furthermore, not all maps contain objects like the arena, so it might not always be applicable for the realism of arena battles.

#

I didn't specify this, but when I was talking about the lifespan of objects, I wasn't necessarily referring to weapons, but rather to objects that aren't weapons in the traditional sense, and that could be used for self-defense in critical situations or simply because you feel like hitting your opponent. These objects wouldn't have a "health bar," and I believe that even if broken, the tips could still be useful, like for stabbing when the broken end becomes sharp. The object wouldn't disappear from your hands like in other games. I admit it would be difficult to code, but I like the idea.

For all of this to work properly, it would require optimization work, which the developers are certainly doing.

Sorry if I write long messages; Half Sword is my favorite fighting game, and developing ideas for it and discussing them is something I'm passionate about.
