Can somone help me troubleshoot Videodriver crashing with fatal errors?

At the moment I am in the situation where I can't start progression, because I crashed mid fight and as soon as I load progression it crashes again, I cant even give up.

Pc specs:
Amd Rx 9070
Amd Ryzen 7 5800X
32GB Ram

I am playing on lowest settings, blood and cruel is turned off. DLSS is on performance. DX12, because 11 is garbage on Slums and forest, idk anymore.

turning off steam overlay worked for 30 mins, again driver crash with fatal error. Every driver is up to date, tried to close every app running on my Pc, turning off my 2 monitor wasn't helping either

delete everything in those folders but GameProgress.sav and try again if you haven't done it yet.

normally you should only delete "config" and nothing more but I had a case where for some reason it didn't help so I had to delete almost everything.

If you do that it will reset your graphics settings

Or you can try using -dx11 (or 12 depending on the one you were using) in your steam proprieties to see if it works with that.

DX12 works with amd cards, I have an AMD and I play using dx12. Dlss is not supposed to work but can on 9000 series since they have AI cores.

That is about what is your Graphic card's number. They have to be 40 line-up and above.

No, DX12 capable GPUs exist since at least the gtx 960 from 2014. The feature level is only dx11 though but DX12 is fully supported since the GTX 1000 series from 2016.

For instance I played elden ring on an rtx 2060 in 2022, Elden Ring is a DX12 game.

Even DLSS is usable on 2060 GPUs and even RX 9000 series but you need a software if I recall correctly in order to used it.

the DLSS was introduced with the first line of RTX GPUs (2000 series) and was mostly pushed by the newly implemented RTX features at that time (from around 2019) So it's quite old. THe thing that was introduced with 4000 gpus was the frame generation. Which interpolates images between images using AI. It greatly enhance the fluidity but not the latency of the game.

Yes, because they used the term "dlss 3" to confuse potential buyers but it's actually separated from frame gen. For instance you can use dlss3 with a rtx 2060 but not the frame gen (even though it's advertised as is...)

and their issues got fixed after switching to dx11

well saying "I don't think dx12 works with AMD GPUs" is not really helpful since it doens't really give any solution. Especially knowing that crashes occurring with DX12 on AMD GPUs are mainly gore related crashes so almost certainly not his issue. I would guess he mostlikely got a graphical bug maybe caused by the settings in his Config files. He can also try to use the -dx11 launch option, it might work but only because it disables some settings and not necessarily because of dx12 per say. Also it can very well be caused by some kind of overclocking, my partner had this problem on her PC (almost same as me) but on the demo, since the EA here game has been patched.

No, it just means you can try tweaking them before going for such a drastic solution. The thing is to try and test, not directly go to the most drastic solution if not needed. And I said to use dx11 to see if that helps, and then tweak the setting. And only when he resets his settings. It is not the same thing.

i just try to say the solution that works 90% of the times instead of telling them tweak this and tweak that and lower this and lower that and do a bunch of trail and error until you've found the perfect set for you which just takes a lot of time

Then as I said you're not really helping and if you don't want to take the time it's fine, only don't give extreme solutions when some other are willing to take the time.

It causes crashes also, I had more crashes with dx11 than dx12 with my 6900 xt but dx12 causes more crashes related to gore so it's a trade off. The thing is, DX11 is far less enjoyable and you do not necessarily need to turn to such "solutions" until you've tried something else. Also there's the matter of the opinion of the person you're trying to help, in order to be as helpful as possible you need some transparence because some solutions may not be acceptable for him. So giving as many solutions as possible allows for clarity and respect of preferences. Some times it can't be done for sure, but most of the time you can try to find the best compromise.

I did both, deleting all files and using -dx12 in steam. I turned dlss off an all settings exept the last 3 on low, because they are resetting all the time to high, probably a bug?
Worked again for 30-45 mins and crashed again.
Gore and blood was turned off in that time 🙁

Do you crash only in progression or you haven't tried Free mode and abyss yet in order to test this out?

No nothing is over- or underclocked despite AMD Smart Access Memory...

Yes I think it was everytime this error or smth similar, including fatal error from HalfSword. Pc freezes for 10-20 Seconds, some times I even had to restart my PC. Sometimes my screen stayed black an I had to turn it off and on again..

you had a GPU before this one I guess, did you delete the previous driver correctly using DDU before installing your 9070 ?

if it's really the game I would say take away the GameProgress.sav and try using a new save to see if it crashes again or not

try using borderless so your game don't crash your pc, that way you can use the mouse to close it using steam or the task manager

but if you whole PC goes totally black then it's far weirder

What is possible also is that some files can be corrupted so uninstalling and redownloading (scaning your game with steam before to make sure it has all files)

I was pretty sure I did that, anyways I did it again and crashed after 3 mins. 5-10 secs freeze into black screen on all monitors for 5-10 secs, followed by 1-2 driver hic ups an then these errors appeared as usual:

I am using borderless, yeah the monitors go black, becuase of the driver crashing I guess? Sometimes the game is still on my main screen but its just a black screen even if the game isnt even running anymore

I use to run 2 monitors but ditched one because for some reason each time I opened up some games like The Last Of Us 2 it crashed, even though I played like 20 hours previously.

@main lynx hey man i was getting driver time outs and also black screens followed by full system restarts while playing halfsword. and it would also happen on occasion when i would "alt+tab" while playing other games like helldivers 2 and rainbow six siege.
