Hm....I'm not sure that could be called practical. Because it was quiet useful in Demo and is useful in reality against armor. (I mean, historically)

historically but the in game the player is too weak and flimsy, along with the autoblock screwing up hits and bs like your sheathed sword yanking you to the ground it becomes difficult to use halfswording for other than grappling

my playtime is about 320 hours
I wasn't playing often for 0.3 ~0.4
Cause, there was no way to choose my gear
0.5 is the highest peak of it.
It was the best experience when I played free mode in 0.5
although with all of these issues atleast we get cool zombies
