There is a mod in that list that changes durability for everything making it more balanced. I never sought to make it permanent because I stop using it as a weapon the second I get an axe.

Maybe We Can Win This is by far one of my favorite tracks in Project Zomboid. The low intensity mix of the song being a slow and drawn out violin perfectly captures the hopeless and grim feeling that the game conveys, and it feels as though that's what your character feels; hopeless. But, leading off of that, a somber and hushed piano and a more active and somewhat less stark violin play along with the lyrics. It follows this sort of solemn feel for most of the song, with subtle drums building up to a brass sting, which, to me, feels like the character building up more hope and courage to actually take down the zomboid threat and reclaim their home.

Shortly after, it transitions onto the medium theme. Instantly, it sets a different tone with a guitar riff, and the immediate thought that I feel is "Okay, we're taking our home back." The tone is instantly different, the plucks of a banjo and a more active and alive violin playing rather than the dreary and drawn out one from before. After a few cycles of this, the part where the banjo stops and is replaced by only violin, the guitar, and the lyrics, which to me conveys a sense of focus, as well as wavering resolve. This is only amplified by a slightly somber violin picking up behind the rest of the track. This faltering, however, only lasts for a few moments, but is interrupted by the banjo coming back once again, as well as more intense drumming, which to me feels like the character finally locking in that they will push past this, and survive through it.

And then the high intensity version. Holy fucking shit. I love it. Naturally, it follows the same progression with the banjo and guitar, but now complimented by the brass from the low intensity version, only now proving to convey insurmountable courage in the face of an endless, undead horde. The sand shakers in the back and the percussion only emphasize this intensity as the odds grow more and more impossible. Once it gets to the bridge without the banjo, the tone gets far more intense and emotional. That violin is now played in a more jerky and overall more assertive fashion, while one or two high pitched stings from a different violin blare to convey the terror that our character is currently pushing against. This follows through until the banjo once again returns with a renewed sense of bravery to it, symbolizing to me the determination the character has, and their refusal to fail. The percussion is also seemingly more intense as the character continues to fight against the impossible odds and the growing sense of terror. And when the song stops, it ends with the guitar that plays at the beginning of the track, which is just crazy.

The lyrics are another huge aspect of it for me. They are translated from Arabic, and follow the progression of "Fountain of life, what is the price? Oh time, oh time, Fountain of life," which to me, feels like a way of asking how much effort does survival take, and what are we willing to sacrifice in order to preserve that survival. These words help keep the bleak nature of the game, but do not sully the hope that is conveyed through the song.

All of these elements combine together to ultimately contradict the main theme of the game, that your death is inevitable and nothing matters because of that, and instead opt for the antithesis of that; that your survival is a triumph, every moment matters, and it doesn't matter the odds, the size of the horde, or what you're facing, because no matter what, you will survive. No matter the cost, no matter the adversity. This song, to me at least, is hope incarnate, and I fuck with it so hard.
