yeah but the pitchfork gives you good range and gives you less of a chance to get hit

Long axe also has good range but I see the vision

I use the long axe for the pheasant and commoner boss

Also if you hit horizontally below last rib it will cut them in half almost all the time

But the pitchfork also is really good because the ai pathing doesn’t see the weapons and will run/walk into the pitchfork

Pitchfork is so good!

Hold alt and send pitchfork to max length. Let go of alt and aim your thrust with normal left click. Finally tap alt and the pitchfork with launch forward, typically one shotting most enemies. Of course works with most stabby things, nice for thin swords too.

Guaranteed kills on the scythe boss and the black knight boss if you practice it

just keep your distance by constantly dodging backward after each strike

The pitchfork or any polearm is a great tool to bind and beat weapons away.

just use shift and move backward after each stab, eventually you’ll get him in the legs enough times or be far up enough with the fork to stab him in a vital point

that is very hard, i reccomend using a thick sword. and attack him quickly, charge at him and try attack his torso while he draws his sword back. DO NOT try do this as soon as u load in. (mb if im a bit late). Also try to know his pattern in attacks. Hope that helps even a little!!

Get the knife, always. Even better if you can get the buckler aswell. Just guard while you run in with the dagger facing forward. He's one of the easiest in my opinion, along with the big mace man

How can I play online with my friends?

No multiplayer currently planned (at least last time I checked). Not to say there won't be as a future-state for full-release but, no current way to play against others.

Multiplayer isn’t something you can just slap onto a game, it requires rewriting and reconfiguring so many different things. I think it’s more that they don’t want to make any promises if they don’t know that they can commit to them

I mean I know it can be a bit of a ball ache to add, I've been in game dev for a few years, and tbh the content they have that hasn't been pushed yet is probably pretty nuts, but I feel like multiplayer especially even just as a 1v1 mode for friends using port forwarding or something would be well worth the value/dev time it'd take

7:28 hit his hat so the armor blocked it. it was a close call but he's fine. as for 14:40, he explains at the start of the video that the settings FOR THE FINAL are going to be on gentile as if he sets it to grotesque, there is a fatal error that happens. The entire video beforehand is set to grotesque. That's why it looks weird all of a sudden. He's fine, GG

u have 2 dificulty setting in menu is damage to npc and player, in start video he shows that this settings two in middle position, but gameplay looks like he have maximum damage to npc and minimum to player

No youve done nothing wrong. Keep playing how youre playing. Youve explained why you do things so I am not going to deny your runs due to technical difficulties out of your control. again, you are totally fine! Most players play on Grotesque, but you had to switch to Gentile on the final battle, which is why that person was upset. It's hard to tell when an enemy hits you when playing on Gentile, so people might assume youre not playing fair because it looks like you took the hits too well, but that's just the lack of gore effects on gentile.

I haven't seen such a rule on the site. Nowhere is it written that I must play on Grotesque, I have seen many videos have other settings not Grotesque. Someone plays on other graphics settings. Can you write on the site that it is necessary to play on Grotesque?

You are right, it isnt a rule! I specifically made it this way because some peoples computers cannot handle Grotesque due to the lag and blood splatter!

For Gauntlet%, the part where you say the fatal error happens, I am not requiring you to play on Grotesque. For other runs, like NoDeath% you are recommended to play on Grotesque

If in a speedrun I win the first three bosses as a beggar, and then take a spiked stick and beat everyone else before the challenge, is that fair? I plan to do a speedrun really fast using only beggar and militia. No slowmo, no falls or deaths. And I think the speedrun should be finished when the victory screen (white text) appears, and not when I stop time, because I waste a lot of seconds. I also have a question about Abyss, where can I send a run? In Abyss there is no victory at the end, I don't know when to stop time.

Really depends how they go about implementing it, game definitely need better optimisation but port forwarding to enable simple 1v1's while keeping the rest of the game would be a way to go about it without extra costs or pushing issues

Although that's definitely not the best way to do full multiplayer and would really only be for getting in a game with people you know

You completed the challenge in about 6 minutes, not counting restarts. I think you need to practice the challenge more, then you can improve your time in the speedrun. Right now, you get stuck on the challenge for a long time and spend a lot of time on it, this is not good.

Speedrun mods are bad, when there was the previous Half Sword page with the Demo 0.3 and Demo 0.4 records, you had to wait a long time and beg for the record to be accepted or rejected, one of the modders was generally rude and rejected speedruns for no reason. I am asking because whenever I slice enough willies in half it ends up causing my character to fall over or just stand completely still in the worst spots imaginable, like standing directly where the enemies axe will land if they decide to swing. Which this is incredibly frustrating in good runs since they can be completely ruined that way.

it does drain stamina yeah BUT the biggest reason for using lower rank is bonuses, it skips fights. in militia and soldier I use pitchfork rather than hook since its 2 fights to boss. bonus is always +1 per rank you are lower than opponent

Playing slow allows for a consistent run. Over time like past 100 it becomes a rhythm if you are constantly switching speeds and pace youre going to mess up eventually. Its more of the psych thing i said before. No death runs are all endurance, so the slowy and more consistent helps for longer and more successful runs.

Theres this glitch that happens where i win but my legs get injured as the win screen pops up and then my movement is like i still have that injury in every single match afterwards until i restart the whole game. I think i just found some weird glitch that may help with speedrunning, but basically it makes the enemies all fight eachother, as in spoilance for example, even tough they are supposed to be together against the player (i saw the effects in small buhurt and brave stance). I found this while messing around in freeplay, my theory is that it might have happened because i was clicking around a lot during the first mode selection screen. Anyways this bug persisted throughout the entire freeplay session, no matter what i did. When I then started a new character in freeplay it still was like this, only once i restarted the game did it get fixed. Also interesting was the fact that in small buhurt only the enemies seemed to get currupted, since the friendly teammates worked as intended for some reason. Hey ya'll. So I would like a discussion to be had. The SRC gauntlet mode has a problem. It lists "to the golden night" in the rules as currently written (I know, top run doesn't beat him, I'm going to address that) but I wanted to ask for opinions on something.

Do people want the gauntlet mode to require beating the baron via UC, or would consensus be that getting to him via the other way be fine? Question 2 is "Do you want 'Gauntlet Mode + UC' to be split off to its own leaderboard?"

So that everybody is aware, since I am now a moderator for the SRC I am working through the backlog. Since the first two runs for Gauntlet Mode% base their times off of defeating the baron in UC, for now runs are requiring that. Sadly multiple runs were stopped at killing the knight boss, and precedent set by the rules wording and the first two runs say those should be invalid runs.

We can talk about a "gauntlet mode, no baron" being added if people want that and would be willing to re-submit for that.

I don't know why people think that defeating the Knight means the speedrun ends. A speedrun should only end with defeating the Baron (Golden Knight). I think there should be three categories: 1) Defeating the Baron without the Challenge. 2) Defeating the Baron with the Challenge. 3) Defeating the Baron in the Abyss.

I definitely agree with that. As of current, your record has been restored to the top as the previously verified record didn't include the Baron in any way. Unless other people feel differently, I can definitely look at introducing separate categories for those.

I think the biggest question is "is anybody interested in submitting runs for Abyss Baron and/or Gauntlet Baton No UC"?
If nobody wants to submit for those, I see no reason to create categories that will remain empty.

When the game was in version 0.3, a lot of people tried playing the Abyss demo. I don't know if people will play it now, but they definitely played Abyss before, since I have my own records in Abyss. I just have nowhere to post my records since there is no Abyss category. If anyone else (besides me) wants such a category, let's create one.

There should simply be a category where you defeat the Baron without the Challenge. But defeating the Knight isn't the same as defeating the Baron. Currently, the Baron is accessible without the Challenge if you complete level 11. A fair speedrun is defeating the Baron. That's the whole point of the game: reaching the Baron and defeating him. The Knight isn't considered the final boss.

Also up for discussion (thread pinned on SRC about it), PumpkinheadGamer has just uploaded a gauntlet mode run that uses an interesting strat. He uses unarmed fights in Free Mode to rack up points, then returns to Gauntlet mode to fight the level's boss. The run has not been verified yet since it's at the bottom of the backlog. Do people feel this should be allowed or should a rule be added that all fights must be done within Gauntlet Mode?

A new category should be created for speedruns without the Challenge. "100%" and "Gauntlet Mode%" aren't meant for that, and submitting speedruns there is incorrect. For example, look at what people did in the "100%" category and how to complete it correctly. The "Gauntlet Mode%" category was intended to be a full speedrun with the Ultimate Challenge and defeating the Baron in the Challenge.

There were a lot of fun categories that were removed. There was an "All Runs" category along with "All Weapons." There was an "Abyss" category, "Levels," where people would speedrun bosses in the Abyss. This could be recreated, and, for example, there could be "Levels" for bosses in "Gauntlet Mode%" so people could speedrun a specific boss and make videos about it. We need something that would be interesting for people and encourage them to compete against each other for the best time.

I think it would be interesting to have "Levels" so people could compete and post their records. For example, who can defeat the Boss Knight in the fastest time? Have you ever wondered how quickly you can defeat a boss?

Is it "Knight tier, from zero points through Knight Boss" or is it "just kill Knight Boss"?

I assume you mean in the gauntlet category? There are numerous skill tutorials on youtube that you may find helpful. Other than that I say grind grind grind until you can reliably beat the baron, even if it takes you an hour or more to do so. Once you get there, start watching speedruns (more than just the ones in your chosen category can be useful) and try to adopt strats they're employing.

Just remember, as long as you're attempting to beat it as fast as you can, you are in fact speedrunning. That holds true even if your times aren't competitive.

This way, the speedruns page can be redesigned more quickly, and players will have new categories where they can post their runs without completing the Challenge. Also, create some rules. @everyoneOkay, Gauntlet Mode is officially split into Gauntlet + UC and Any%. The two existing runs have been moved to Gauntlet + UC, unless you let us know that you want it placed in any% instead.

I'm curious, what would happen if someone did a speedrun of Gauntlet level 11 + Ultimate Challenge and Abyss to Baron in one video. A speedrun of both modes at once? That's three Barons in one video.

I have the rules up on SRC, but pretty much boils down to "start from nothing on beggar, end by killing the baron. how you get there and whether you fight him in UC or in the arena is up to you"
