In the inventory it is invisible. Makes the clunking noises when I inspect it. But it does not go in any slots.

I think this is caused by a conflict with the grip module. The weapon can't go into any of the slots if it doesn't have the grip module to tell the game what it actually is

most of the "removed" leftover stuff I've tried to use has worked fine, I think almost all of the demo assets were carried over to EA so you can probably just rip a blade from a loadout save with the old greatswords and port it forward.

Ok yall I figured out how to get different maps on freemode
So what you want to do is use ue4ss or half sword enchancer, really anything that lets you use the ue console, then go to freemode, type in "open /Game/Maps/Arenas/Map_Arena_Cellar.Map_Arena_Cellar" and you will have infinite matches on cellar until you leave
i will give the other map names in time cuz i dont know them yet

Trying to make a wooden training sword but it wont holster. how do I fix it?
you cant. Weapons require a blade module to sheathe, and this doesnt have one unless im looking at it wrong. I've had this issue since the first time I made a federschwert back in the playtest build, there's no way around it other than to hide a blade module inside the blunt head, but that wastes a component slot.
I mean I can probably use the head sub module slots since im not using them and put a blade module in them and scale the blade 0, 0, 0
Also how do I fix the handle going through the pommel

I dont think that would've worked anyway, I'm pretty sure it reads the actual head module so a submodule probably wouldnt have done anything.

You cant, this is an artifact of the polearm haft you're using. The only way to avoid this looking ugly is to use that part on a longer weapon. It worked great for my longsword trainer, but I tried an arming sword and a rondel, neither looked nice

I found that mace grip A M and A S work for arming swords. I never thought of using polearm handle for longsword so imma try that

Since OVRDTH's armory tool allows mass weapon importing, I've finally made a proper weapon pack for EA, no save file required. 31 unique modded weapons, all properly balanced and weighted like their real counterparts.
This one took me an absolute age to get right, and even longer to organize everything in the new inventory system and jump between programs to build, balance and test these weapons, so I would appreciate any feedback anyone has to give.

You can organise the insured weapons list, but it only really works out for free mode. No matter how you lay it out, it seems like the progression mode inventory will always be a bit of a mess

Its probably not as simple as switching some engine value from false to true, assuming its even there.
It would need to be specifically integrated with the game otherwise its not gonna actually record anything.
And how would you watch it when its recorded? Its just gonna be raw data that could only be viewed ingame, but the game doesnt have a replay gallery to use it.

ue does have something built in for this, but unfortunately it doesnt really seem to work well at all for half sword
the issue is it replays replicated data, and half sword doesn't replicate much so it spawns everyone in (+2 randoms?) and they just all turn to face the same direction and just sorta.. shuffle around lol

Might be some formatting differences, but I know Zomboid just switched from .txt to .json for its translation files and all modders had to do was some tweaks to their old .txt files to get it working

Got a problem where changes I make to my character weight in Ovrdth doesn't save.
Like it says applied (not saved) and when I save to .sav no changes occur to my character after reloading. Does anyone know what might be causing my issue?

yeah, with pak modding you should be able to replace the lighting levels of any of the maps (make a ue 5.4 project titled HalfswordUE5, create ur levels containing the lighting, and have them match name and path of whichever ur changing, package with the pak name ending in _P and add to the game's Paks folder basically)

heyoo! recently decided to download enhancer again (for the steam demo version of half sword) but it doesnt seem to be working (manual version of HSE launches then crashes instantly, HSE launcher gives me the image below). i tried reinstalling the demo, which didnt help.

but some people have posted their edited config files that improve performance for hs so u can just use one of them that probably disable lumen as well

Not always I believe, and disabling lumen is going to cause issues if there's no existing non-lumen lighting or lightmaps to replace it
I think that that lumen disable setting isn't always going to be available for every UE game, maybe it works for half sword though

It removes anything that may act as a shield
including bucklers
Not for player though
And likely, not for your teammates too (haven't tested but in theory it should not)
Aw that's a shame. I hate the big pavises and heater shields but I love the commoner buckler fights too much to sacrifice them

Hi guys trying to mod for the first time where im trying to replace the axe head for the polearm with the barrel model, im getting all the way to the point ive got the pak file and its placed in the proper directory and with ue4ss installed, attached is a screenshot of my filelist for unrealpak, basically i just renamed the barrel model as the axe head but its not being replaced in game any tips?
if i put the pak file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half Sword\HalfswordUE5\Content\Paks it should be working right?
has anyone had any luck with replacing specific weapon heads with other models?

I didn't find a way to generate weapons before every spawn but I think it's possible to simply replace any weapon with random sword weapons

take the model, put in the blender change the origin point match the original blade then send the model to unreal to cook and package

i need to edit the materials file for the original blade to be less rough and metallic

the collision still works properly with the replaced model surprisingly, my barrel staff works way better than i thought
it seems editing materials files is a lot harder than i thought
or at least, i cant find the right method to do it

could use unreal engine, download 5.4, create a project named HalfswordUE5, and use https://github.com/JsonAsAsset/JsonAsAsset to import the materials (at the same path as in the game's pak), edit material settings then cook and package into a pak ending with _P so it overwrites the main pak and place in Half Sword\HalfswordUE5\Content\Paks

Yes, but it messes with the physics so you can lose the bolt or get catapulted with the crossbow even if you press too fast. That is why I kept it minimal.

unfortunately you cant set it for free mode, but it's possible to make a custom mercenary with a weapon of your choosing and spar against them using .sav editing. I'll explain the process another time, I've been up all night figuring this custom mesh stuff out and I really need to sleep lol

How do you get the custom mercs working
first thing's first, you need to get to your gameprogress.sav file
-
press the windows key + R, this will open the "run" program on your pc
-
enter "%localappdata%" into the box and press enter, this will open your local roaming folder
-
in your local roaming folder, find the "HalfSwordUE5" folder and open it
-
enter the folder named "Saved", then "SaveGames"
-
here you will find a file called "GameProgress.sav"

open up the file structure as shown in the image, this will give you access to all of the mercenaries you can hire when you open progression mode
the numbers 0 through 4 are all of the mercenaries, you can open their file structure to change pretty much everything about them, but we only care about the weapons for now, so go here
if you back out a bit, you can find a section that holds your insured weapons. This screenshot shows one of my custom rondels from my insured inventory.
if I want to give this to my mercenary, I copy the whole block and paste it over the block in the enemy inventory
save your file at the top of the page, put the newly downloaded gameprogress.sav in your savegames folder and overwrite the old one, then head into the game. You should find that the mercenary you created is waiting to be hired on the progression menu.

Hey for weapons like these do you need to overwrite an existing mesh or can you add a new one in an added pak file that can be called in the GameProgress.sav?
ive always overwridden an existing mesh, that way you can replace a weapon guard or blade and have it be customizable in the armory as well
Apparently you can add custom meshes without overwriting anything by using one of Luke's mods, but I've just been replacing existing meshes so players can access them from the forge and add them to their own weapons

Its a bit complicated, but basically you need to make a map in unreal engine and use repak to make the project into a pak file that you can drop into the game
You also have to name the project "HalswordUE5" exactly and as far as I know it can only be done on unreal engine 5.4.4

are the swords actually sharp or are they just props
They function as weapons to a certain extent. The models replace existing modular parts. They are a bit wonky, but it's incomplete as of right now. You can still cut and thrust, but they don't really bite like basegame assets do
