A couple days ago I was talking about how shit my laptop is and how I couldn’t run halfsword in the general, and I know it’s random but I just saw my 2 best friends who I haven’t seen in 4 years and the homie got a pc upgrade n decided to give me his old PC so after years of wanting to play PC games I finally actually have a half decent set up and it feels UNREAL. Needless to say halfsword is one of the first games I’m downloading and I’m so happy to be able to game in actually enjoyable quality and finally see what PC gaming is all about. Just kinda wanted to share the hype and wish you all a merry early Christmas (going from 4GB of RAM to 32 will definitely help me run the game 😂)

I was playing Half Sword and realized that my favourite class of weapons, the polearms, are pretty useless in the earlier ranks such as militia. So I made what I like to call the Polearm Numerical Battle System, or P.N.B.S for short. Its a mostly defensive system since its what most polearms fail at in ranks conquered by swords and axes, here is how it works:
PNBS — Polearm Numerical Battle System (Half Sword only)
Goal:
Make polearms viable in early ranks (militia) by minimizing blade use and focusing on thrusts, shaft strikes, and weapon control.
Core idea:
Polearms work best as control tools, not cutting weapons.
Every polearm has a tip + shaft → PNBS uses only those.
Grip rule (important):
Grip depends on point of balance.
• Forward-balanced polearms (spears, halberds):
– Stances 1/2/3 → normal grip
– Stances -1/-2/-3 → half-sword grip
• Center-balanced polearms (Goedendag):
– Always half-sword grip
– Enables fast control and instant -1 kills
Stances:
1 – Reactive stopper
Counter a charge. Extend and stab to stop momentum.
2 – Anticipatory stopper
Same as 1, but used when you expect the attack.
3 – Offensive immobilizer
Advance and hit legs to reduce mobility.
-2 – Weapon control
Clash weapons to gain control. Core PNBS stance.
-1 – Execution
After -2, strike the neck with the bottom of the shaft (instant kill).
-3 – Leg stun
Stun legs, then finish with -1.
Basic flows:
1 → -2 → -1
2 → -2 → -1
3 → -3 → -1
