exanima has a good grip on the way the movement interacts with the hips whereas half sword is certainly fit for a much broader audience it doesnt exactly capture the sort of measured steps you need to actually sword fight

exanima is very good about one button press being one step

of course there's plenty of times in fencing where you dont want to just step when you're moving but half sword doesnt capture those in betweens very well

exanima does let you do "compass steps" pretty well though
