I've always hated the thing of like having a weapons that do different amounts of damage, and then balancing them out by giving things resistances or weaknesses to certain weapon types, that's so boring.

Like if something is weak to a certain damage type it's because a peice of text says so, not because the game is well designed.

I like how the warhammer tabletop does it where for example every weapon has a strength value and every enemy has a toughness, if strength is less than half the toughness you wound on rolls of 6
If its lower but not less than half it's 5, if its equal it's 4s, etc.

This along with a couple other varied mechanics for every weapon means that weapons can be organically strong in certain situations without needing text that says it is.
