So there is a component called the lance rest in cuirasses
The bitten out part most likely makes it so they can connect the targe in the area of the lance rest
now i could be wrong but i do mainly think that’s what’s its about
Also note that the targe would have leather that actually helps you attach the targe in one of your shoulders, the surviving piece doesn’t seem to have them (maybe not?)
