Bear in mind I've fallen over backwards while wearing a kettle hat, strapped to my chin, and the brim of the kettle hat was the first point of contact with the floor, came nowhere near to knocking me out.

For a bit more detail it was angled backwards enough that when the brim hit the floor it pulled my head up with the chin strap and choked me for a very small amount of time. Definitely jolted my spine so if that didn't concuss me or knock me out I'm reslly not sure I see melee weapon strikes doing it.

Helmets vary alot, more than people realise, my kettle hat is a proper heavy one (like 4 kilos which can weigh on your neck alot over time), it has no dents whatsoever and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it could stop certain types of ammunition.
I've also worn steel helmets that I can compress with two hands so that opposite sides of the bottom rim are basically touching. Basically squashing it.

That basically narrows it down to anything made of steel, it depends on the gauge of steel, 18 gauge is barely usable on the head for proper sparring, 16 gauge is passable for head armour and is fine for anywhere else, 14 guage is generally good and 12 guage could survive the end of the universe and the beginning of another.
With something like fencing you basically just want something on your head, a fencing sword isn't heavy enough to do anything to even a shitty helmet.

Thr longsword is lighter but the weight is way closer to the handle, which counter intuitively means it's way harder to use in one hand than the much heavier arming sword. Because whilst it's much easier to move about, you have very little control of the blade since it hardly weighs anything.

Holding a sword with two hands vastly changes how you can control it, with one handed weapons you're almost entirely relying on momentum and forward weight to swing, where as with two handers the weight is closer to the handle but you have the back hand which provides the angular momentum
Like with a two handed spear, most of the work is with whichever hand is at the back of the spear.

There are definitely steps that stores are taking to prevent it, like setting a purchase limit and what not, and a lot of these stores do actually care about it from what I’ve seen. But of course there’s stores that don’t give a damn and sell their whole stock to one person, especially retail stores like target. For the most part there’s not much of a chance to grab something but sometimes you get lucky lol
