He's also just generally annoying and obnoxious in other servers
real asf
Man I missed it, normally people stay civil in here, if there is ever an issue feel free to ping me!
why did i get hit in the crossfire ☹️
que? I didn't mute you. want to continue this in #general-catfish-🐱🐟 , or feel free to DM me if you'd like.
Not sure what you're talking about
it was a joke haha, since i’m a roblox developer
English kettle of some sort
Not english
it's italian and was found in rhodes iicr
ohh haha, my apologies 😅
oopsies
if it's Italian then I think it's even more likely for Ivan to take a good look at it 🤔
it's a really interesting piece
why aren't you a mod anymore
too many sillies in this server...
could drive anyone insane
the modern mind when you tell them that even peasants would have "working clothes" and "normal clothes" just like today
peasants when they got the egg-yolk + rust shaving pigment drip

(that guy is gonna be mind blown when he finds out how they made paint and shit back then.)
he was waffling abt inherented stuff too

Weren’t a big part of dyes shit that you can find in the wild easily, from flowers to weird ass plants
How does the original image you are commenting look like?
I think it is in a way half true, medieval peasants did own dyed clothes, but the color quality was certainly lesser compared to those of the upper echelons of society.
The color they used would have been less resistant. In the tres riches heures du duc de Berry which depicts more or less même vers of all the echelons of society in relatively naturalistic way, we see grey, pink and pale blue far more frequently amongst the peasantry, those color are probably faded red and faded blue respectively.
Weren’t done colors not allowed for peasnts
Plants, flowers, clay, earth, rust, egg yolks, tumeric, etc
Clay stains clothes easily tbh
I think clays were used to create colors for paintings(brownish red for instance), not to dye clothes.
still a pretty stark contrast from the common grey/brown colorless peasants
Of course it would be of lower quality and less varied
but still colorful
sumptuary laws yes
but that is 1. a bit of a late period thing, i think the earliest example is like 1450 ish but i barely recall, so take that as you will 2. Only for certain areas, one being england iirc 3. most people won’t be able to acquire the things prohibited anyways
it’s mostly really high class shit like pearls and purple dye
from where do yall get such cool armours?
just commission your personal smith simple as
though it tends to be expensive unfortunately
what's up with that front buckled cuirass?
is that for like an upper middle class man at arms that cant afford to have someone help him?
Maybe not afford per se, but just because it’s easier to put on quickly
additional question: why does the positioning of the buckles matter? why didnt everyone have a front buckled breastplate if its more convenient to do and undo? is it safer to have the stuff away from where you're getting hit?
cool, i figured it was but i thought you'd have to get really unlucky
they probably did it to charles the bold
Cut his sallet straps off, then hit him with a halberd
he was obviously on the ground beforehand though
a good chop with a halberd might be able to do it
But ofc it’s only one and that won’t entirely compromise your armor
this was a thing for the rich even, i.e certain armor designs that are meant for people who can’t afford or don’t have the time to arm themselves in full harness
i wonder if it would be viable to cut the strap on a vambrace or something to get in a shot on the wrist
but you'd probably just go for the bicep or something instead
cool to think about
i mean it’d hurt to be cut there but if you want someone dead then probably better off sawing his bevor straps off
I don’t imagine it was very common though, i mean there were easier ways
And for the heavily armored 9/10 they’re worth more alive than dead
the only reason charles the bold got killed was because the people who did it fucking hated him
This Hounskull Bascinet happens to fit the time period of half sword, and is a gorgeous piece. I think Ivan and you folks would really enjoy this one.
"These pieces of head armour show the high level of skill achieved by late 14th century blacksmiths, when full-plated white body armour was in its infancy. Bascinets represented a major step forward in technique. The timbre, or helmet skull, had an arched shape and was made from a single sheet of metal. Like the sharp-tipped muzzle, it helped protect the knight from blows. The pivoting visor could be lifted so that he could get some fresh air and widen his field of vision in an instant. The ventilation holes were only made on the right-hand side, the side less exposed to attack."
The bascinet was a form of head protection used in Europe between 1370 and 1430. It can be recognised by its "muzzle", which protected the face with a sharp tip. This unusual profile led 19th century French archaeologists to call it a "bec de passereau" (passerine beak) bascinet. Other terms were used abroad. In England, it was known as the "pig-faced bascinet" or the 'hounskull bascinet", while the Germans opted for the term "Hundsgugel" (dog's head bascinet).
https://www.musee-armee.fr/en/collections/museum-treasures/hounskull-bascinet.html
yeah if you put it in the form of a great bascinet
it would be a really stark contrast to what we have ingame
Does it? Their popularity faded right at the time interval for the game setting starts.
the game takes place just around 1430~ ish, when this museum cites it stopped being used
so it lines up just around the time, and the devs have mentioned they are willing to flex around 5~ years ish when It comes to the setting
So it really comes to Ivans opinion. I really just thought it was a nice hounskull that you folks would like!
I mean if you really like that bascinet, there others quite similar looking that fit the time period of the game better like this one :
1430 - 1480
goes up to right abt the end of the middle ages
The thing is if you start including those you might as well cover the whole 15th century.
Imagining combatant from the very beginning of the time bracket fighting with some from the very end, will be quite anachronistic, even more so when we go even before the 1430s
...no, they may as well not. the devs have specifically said they they would be willing to lean around 5 years out of 1430-1480. that doesn't mean 1400-1499.
that is oxymoronic. I shared this hounskull because it was seen up until 1430, when the game is set.
and there are people that may find that interesting
But in practice it is absolutely equivalent, because what faded in popularity around that time is essentially the equipment from the very late 14th early 15th
I just think the game could see future/past expansions later on
like how now it's 1430-80
then first expansion : 1420-1490
second : 1400-1500
and so on
food for thoughts...
At the end of the day I am not against as long as I never see combatants from the first quarter of the 15th century fighting with combatants from the 3rd/4th quarters.
i mean there is potential for expansion in the future, espesially now that we have partenered with Game Seer, there may even be potential for other cultures and countries in future expansions when the game is fully finished, but there's certainly no guarentees.
I only have experience with hema, which is limited in several ways, but based on that i would say its a very far fetched idea. A fight is a very chaotic and fast paced thing, you really don’t have the time to make such a tight shot. Youre much more easily going to make a thrust in the half sword against the pits, neck, or elbows, and this would be far more likely to wound directly and grievously rather than to cut straps and then give less dangerous wound
im in love with this helmet, my most favorite
i hope it makes into half-sword
U should send him this article
Note how many of these things, such as madder, woad, chamomile, marigold, bark, walnut, theyre easily produced by even the most dirty of dirt farmers
Madder is said to be expensive but its also something you can just grow in your garden, it all depends on local scarcities
Pins 💔
1430 is really pushing it for this style
I think it wouldn't work for mid-late 15th century like what the game is going for
I haven't seen any 1430 manuscripts that depict this design, I really think the museum is just off with the 1430 endpoint
1415 is the latest hounskull i've seen and the manuscript is depicting the mega-past so it might have just been there to show that it's old
So are bascinet in half sword is real?
according to that one museum
i would say hounskull armets and hounskull gb's are the best we got
and both of them are cooler imo
feast your eyes
basically a grand bascinet but it looks 10x more rad and opens cooler
proble m ?
yea a lot
why
I don't like armets that much
why not
Design
but hounskull
Hounskull is cool because if you lose and you're missing a sword, mace or whatever, you can use the snout of your visor to hit your opponent in the eye.
but also your opponent can grab you by the snout
though that does give me a good idea for a scene in a book or movie or something where a guy in a bascinet is restrained and then breaks free and fuckin gouges a dude's eye out with the snout of his visor
well yeah that's not the same kinda one i sent you tho . . . .

boo womp
that's why I sent it here, for y'all to pick apart, and for Ivan to look at possibly
I figured if anyone would know it would probably be him
i would love them in game too but i just think it'd open up a little too large of a threshold for how old or how new things can or should be
grand bascinets arent THAT different. .. .
but it's an armet
not all armets look the same
True , ..
like this
some bascinets got this goofy design too though
YOU WATCH YOUR MOUTH. THAT ONE GOES HARD.
must be a alien
i painted my fencing mask to look like that armet, bro..
sorry don't ban me 😥
Alright this one i agree it's goofy as fuck
The goofy ones are the best
why is it broken and cracked
and how i am suppost to know?
it looks like you have aquired it
nah i actually got from internet
love that visor but i dont love how it doesnt fit the helmet as good as it should
coolest shit ever
Fr
found a cool site where you can design coat of arms or get a randomly generated one
oh hey i forgot about that one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7RmTJRJi0g new halfsword lore just dropped

Very very unlikely imo
More likely to grab by the arm harness or pauldrons than by the very round and large visor
And what’s your move if you do? It doesn’t give you much control, both his arms will be free, and while you’ve got your hands high to grab the visor, your armpits are exposed
Nah that visor is so sexy. You may not like it but this is beak performance for a houndskull
I think definitely its a mismatched piece, in older times museums and even now collectors sometimes combine unrelated pieces to create complete displays. This is especially bad with old sword fittings
But helms and visors are easily done too
happens all the time in modern medieval sports
that's why you dont see hounskulls often in buhurt, sca, or most other grappling-heavy sports like that
if your face and head is that easy to be manipulated you can get moved pretty easy, or people will go for it in clinches
and since there are no arrows shooting at you there's not really a point to wear one
is churburg pronounced "shur-burg" or "kur-burg"?
italian armor trend i love with the right pauldron being made up of many lames, with the left one having a huge gardbrace and a huge rondel overtop
all of the photos have the maile decoration on the pauldrons
its not really decoration
italian bros just wore their maille over their rerebraces
italy
i think it looks purdy cool..
is bro on crack
nah i would call this "thinking "
halfswordians.... is this polearm length reasonable or nay?
Okay. Now, is this arming point laces reasonable ...
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/1258859676993589248/1267199226560118885/3ad56b419a9567949a3dd79c2efdd1ed.png?ex=66a7eabf&is=66a6993f&hm=34dd285b4cf00120b622bc8fa4fb91c7196feae7715025a888c40e25360d250c&
Or too long?
I genuinely cant find a solid reference for arming doublet laces. Modern reproductions have different lengths and manuscripts don't always show them
they'd probably be a little lower
genuinely half sword is a pretty good reference for arming points imo
in terms of just seeing where they are
no you’re on something if you think that would ever work
I know at least one buhurt guy in my area wears it. It all really comes to personal preferences, i hear a lot of people find it hard to breathe in and to constricting visually
But never heard it was a liability in the grapple
When it comes to that, pretty much everyone already has their hands full. Current rules say that if you don’t have a weapon in hand you’re not allowed to take offensive action, so you would have to dump your shield and or drop your lead hand on your axe, and i dont really see that happening
If you have one id like to see it happen on video, because i have a hard time envisioning how you would even get a grip on one
Evolution into birds
Hard...
VERY hard
new halfsword weapon
i dont have a clip of one but the one time i asked about them talking to a veteran fighter in the SCA he was like "we dont wear those because people grab the snouts and throw faces around"
SCA 🥴
you should know the reason you got muted was for continuously being an ass to people after you were warned to stop. Sam and I are friends, first of all, so yeah, I'm gonna yank his chain every now and then.
do you have an issue with any of that?
Get that outta here, this ain't no reference!
kill this man
what was the original message?
An suspicous invite to a fortnite server
Is it considered a reference if its a 3d model you made yourself, and want to share?. Just curious
you can do that but also probably share a source or two that you based it off
also feel free to post in art
How did I not see the art channel yo
would be nice if this channel had the timeframe in the description
Sigmas....is this cuirass ok
strap's a lil big but looks fine to me otherwise
Big as in long or too wide?
both, methinks the plackart isnt tall enough to warrant the strap going all the way up to the collar
in general just shrink it a bit
the size of the straps does very but i've rarely seen one that large
tru
hmm i thought of drawing a seperate character wearing dat cuirass but mayb i should put it over the one ive drawn alreade...
something like that would be more appropriate
ALSO this reminded me, dont forget the side straps
usually they are because most people are right handed
one side has the straps, one side has the hinges
I remember someone posted a cuirass here that buckles on the front
Thats blessed and cursed simultaneously
is this cuirass fit ok or do you think the waist needs to be thinner
seems good to me !
thanx, and one last question: are the faulds an okay size? referencing the back part especiall
y
I'm wondering whether that space in the back is appropriate, I reckon it'd have to be there since you cant move your legs if the faulds hug them
So only the 1470s now 😥
So 1450-80
This is apparently outdated
it is?
so 1430-70
No :
He did ^
Even the 1450s are too early now
ah.. well.. as we created more assets and collected more references, we decided to take a period after transitional period in armor design. So around 70s. We still look into 80s and maybe even 60s, but I cant tell for sure. Ivan is our armorer and he knows more about what can go better with what. I prsonally really like 1450s armor, but it seems like making it fit with elements of armor from later years would be too hard
since there is a 1440-1450 armet there is still hope
does that mean a small chance for inaccurate but deadly hand cannons 👉👈
does franky have any plans for weather stuff for maps(specifically rain) cuz whenever i play half sword i always remember this scene from maximillian
oiugughhg the armor is so bad 💔
Ouch that's bad
trash movie tbh and the scene too. But yeah weather looks cool
Cool set piece, sure. Realistic in any shape or form, thats not it pal
The fight was extremely mid. I liked the cinematography in terms of capturing how disorienting fighting in armor can be
For the armor my main gripe was how the pauldrons were fit, they were very high and wide
Also how dirty and tarnished it was for a duel before all these nobles and i guess by nobles
what happened to his drip that isnt his armor
some of his actual armor
tourney sets
My opponent: @felix.der.ritter
https://www.youtube.com/@felix.der.ritter
Ars nobilis is latin for the art of noble men.
Duels with two-handed swords were a popular sport among nobles in tournaments in the late Middle Ages and especially in the early modern period. The book about the largest tournament in history, “Freydal,” shows two knight...
is there a source link for the big warhammers that are like, discs and spikes on either side?
That painting not only dates to the 17th century but is also of Maximillian's son Philip I of Castile, the harness above it belonged to his Grandson Charles V
ngl i didnt know much of this armor if that is what you are talking about
Yea
its in his museum i believe so thats why i posted it same as that painting
The MET had it on loan a while back, they still have a page with accurate info on it
yes
I'd take a look at that, it provides a decent bit of info on it
my point still stands though he had nice suits of armor and the movie didnt do that justice
Most "historical" films are bad
Always have to use a gray filter and have it bucketing down outside
just a reminder that this games time period is 1430-1470 to potentially 1480
Who's armour is this?
it's beautiful
The website has MANY more pictures and entries of other pieces too i highly recommend surfing it
guy looks like someone from the witcher blood and wine
Half sword irl?👀
Actually no half sword irl graphics update
It was clarified yesterday that everything from the 1430 to 1460 is extremely unlikely to be added to the game, as it may create anachronistic combinations, from what I understand the goal is to be able to mix individual pieces of armor without running into totally improbable combinations.
What is that highest tier ?
I mean what kind of armors are we expecting from that tier? Royal armors and All’antica gilded harnesses ?
Unless I am asking for the references that will be used for that tier 😉

legit no idea
What about messers? are they time accurate? beacuse i really dont know
Rick, Soldier of God
Pretty sure they are but I may be wrong
im also pretty sure they are but i cant find much on them
It seems like a messer would just end up being practically a narrow falchion with a different grip model
Since my understanding is theyre just choppy backswords with knife fittings rather than sword fittings
A boar hunting sword from c. 1500
similar one in fiore di battaglia from the early 1400s
Ive always wondered like, why sword hunting? If youre going to hunt with a sword thats designed to behave like a spear, why not just. Use a spear? Youre not properly practicing the art of mounted swordsmanship at that point
Might as well make it a nice and pleasurable hunt by using a tool thats built for what you want rather than a weapon that only aesthetically resembles an actual sword
Spear harder to carry? People want to show off? Stupidity?
I’ve always heard that hunting swords were just made to finish the animals off
If that were the case, why the stopping spar?
might've just been for people who were more comfortable wielding and transporting swords
spears and swords handle very differently
and considering fiore uses his as a weapon, it may have been used for self defense as a secondary use, too
This makes a lot of sense considering a huntsman might encounter poachers or thief gangs hiding around in the forest
Your guess is as good as mine, but it’s probably because you don’t want a animal getting close to you when you finish it off
In the Medieval period the hunt was seen as excellent training for combat and would often involve the use of hand weapons by the hunter to dispatch the quarry. In the later Middle Ages right up through the modern period specific types of hunting swords evolved that were commonly distinguished from other period arms by the forms of decoration o...
Here’s a little write up I found
Last thing I’d want is a boar crunching on my ankle whilst it’s being given the final strike
I guess it all comes down to method. In my mind i was imagining the finish being a coup de grace when it has fallen at last after being wounded by arrows or dogs
But if you were trying to make a combat training out of it, hunting it down from full health so to speak, the flanges make great sense
But for that it doesnt seem very apt, since you would be moreso thrusting and lunging rather than striking, so a whole dynamic of your play with the sword is missing
I suppose the aspect that hunting will do for you is give you an experience of real mortal peril, rather than the type of training you would do in the ring where you could be injured but steps are taken to make it safe
That’s usually what it was, but more so to disallow regaining of consciousness if KO or if injured and keep game from running away
Yeah I completely agree with this. Hunting itself isn’t a very good simulator for sword combat in the way of practicing techniques, but it is certainly dangerous as well as a fun form of exercise. You get to ride your horse, use a bow, a spear, chase something and get a prize at the end.
Maybe it’s just a little easier and more efficient than a bore spear when putting down an animal, but a little safer than using a regular sword
you mean a plommee?
Gotta run away from that chat 😭
If any dev happens to see this, I have been curious to see what the un textured gambesons look like. Solely for the purpose of making my own models look better. If I could get a picture that would be grand 🙏
Just a icon I think, as for the edges aren’t rounded
cuz sword cool
Thank you.
i mean they seem like a slasher kinda weapon, dont see them as choppy, i see them in a more "fencing" kinda view, not actually sure tho thats just my opinion, and yea they are time appropriate, im 99% sure they are ( gogole says the earliest they are seen depicted around 1430 and found by the end of the 40s )
i mean thats if franky is using older 15th century stuff still
if its just like 60s/70s onward
then i dont think they are
the fella
Wow that is wicked
Ik it may seem like a joke suggestion but I'm 100%serious should add a trout to slap ppl with I was knocked out with a stool it was hilarious
Dripus Maximus
Add blood to playtest
they will after the japan showcase
when did you guys take references as a suggestion channel lol
please use #1047240101152960525
question, from what century is this armor from ? and what type ?
early 16th century
from what region ? german ?
yea i think so
the helmet is called the bellows sallet so that should open up a few things to you
other folks said it was owl face sallet
is it the same thing ?
yea
bellows refers to a visor
and this ain't a bellows
owl face better
yea gg i dont know much about that helmet
i think its pretty rare to see that helmet in medieval iconography
well, yeah it's not even medieval afaik
16th century is early modern
i think most 16th century armor information is from extant examples instead of with iconography
cause more recent time, and most of these are high class items and thus well preserved
shiit i forgot 😭
the line does get blurry around like 1480 ish
between early modern and medieval
at least imo
guhhh it sucks that there are a few amazing pieces that have missing harnesses
if you think about it there is probably an iceberg of stuff related to arms and armor that didn't survive, [probably melted for other things and what not]
yeah, especially that one horned helmet given to king henry the 8th
which is why I always think MS stuff that could look alien to actual things DID exist but never survived to be documented
this handsome fella deserve middle iceberg tier
I always imagine this one with a smooth Maximillian harness
the helmet itself is giving me vibes of that.. if I knew how to draw I'd show what i mean
ow sht my bad, the armor is now found
I see very interesting
by the royal armouries
the armour is reall cool
according to their twitter acc, 200 years ago, the museum's pursuit of historical rigour was a little more relaxed than it is today.
That’s why, in 1794, our Horned Helmet, a gift to Henry VIII in 1514, was displayed with armour linked by an incorrect attribution to Henry’s court fool, or jester, Will Summers
heres their twitter post https://x.com/Royal_Armouries/status/1509831118601830446
pretty cool tbh
The horns would be sooo dope on a diffrent typa helmet
lets say an sallet
but thats for some fantasy design or parade idfk
true
Dope
this is some nightmarish gift
kind of looks like your profile picture a little
what did i do
you offend me

this is really charming i love it
i dont know if on the right thats a smile or a mask lmao
look at this awesome thing
It's a scarf
Or fringed hood whatever
Classic german thing
These guys vids are fantastic
I love them deeply
beautifull !
@terse bronze what is he wearing
that bevor fucked up brah………
what is who wearing
the man with the shoulders
his helmet?
no the funky pauldron thing
encased pauldrons like that were from the beginning of the 1500s i believe
let me fetch some stuff on them
i only saw them on some landskehenshtsh
yuckers
top middle example
tanks
also i like the guy's helmet on the left of the image you sent
grand bascinet with half visor
this should be like the final boss of half sword
too late for game
is this real
no, not really
the images are pretty real but their weird linear evolutions are not
and the times associated are strange sometimes
like this is straight up wrong
yeah its not like nobody thought of a rectangle shield until 1100
i love bashford dean but holy hell, owl faced sallets did not come before maximilian close helms nor did they evolve from each other
all of these coexisted and they're basically just levels of wealth
those less bespoke sallets were munitions plate
Bro u dont get it the phylogeny the descent everything comes from something else the historical PROGRESSION
phylogenies are cool...... but they simply dont work well for arms and armor
these are good i like them
i think there's an extant 15th century piece that shows these articulated shoulders out there somewhere
late 15th century though
i might be able to find it
unrelated, St. Albans Chronicle, St. Albans, England, c. 1470.
Lambeth Palace Library MS 6, f.136v.
This is really useful!!
anyone have pictures of front facing italian armets?
like
straight at camera
preferably later ones
technically a sallet but it's got an "armet" visor
there's also this, milanese export
cool cool cool
might repaint my fencing mask to look like one and im trying to see how exactly the light hits them
great book on the terminologies and construction of armor, armor decoration, and garments worn with armor, but its in italian
each section covers early examples (1200s) up to late examples (1600s) when applicable
the pictures are great by themselves, most of the accompanying text gives common names to parts of the pieces
1495
thats so dope dude
im getting a com of my OC in armro its alamsot done
his fucking brain explodes in the end
😭
Boy I can barely draw
I love it when artist degrade themselves so they do worse on their art.
@toxic breach LOVE YOURSELF. NOW
25 thousand sables
I’d have to agree.
The bingbang armet
It' composite iicr
Is there a possibility that such an attack will be included in the game in the future?
I hope so
Although it may seem funny. it is actually a very effective technique.
yee, it'll be in but prolly later

Night uhhh
I feel like the elbows are quite oversized
What’s the reason?
to protect your ass when you're charging
Would smaller ones like these not do? They fully cover the elbow still
it's not about JUST the elbow
I mean, everything else is covered too
Not enough
If it exists, you right click and take cover but when you try to take cover you hit
works with almost all weapons
those wings are awesome
dont know if this counts, but some music like this would be dope in a tournament!
side note, medieval-renaissance instruments are fascinating!
seeing some of these in the hands of musicians would add to atmosphere imo! (first image is more world music i realize, oopsies)
hell i'd make the tournament music, it wouldnt be music that plays when you fight, you'd probably hear it just before you fought as you entered the ring, idk
just spitballing i guess
The elbow guards make me think it's for cavalry combat but the skirt looks like it was made for foot combat. I honestly think it's the owner's armour fashion choice.
wow thats good dawg
all you needed is just sum shading
and reflection
It's also important to note that it's a composite harness.
What is composite armor
a set made out of multiple items that aren't necessarily meant to be together and/or possibly with reproductions
guy in middle
oh that’s actually pretty useful
im pretty sure i have this photo but in a lower quality
at first i thought it was this guy's kit because they're kinda similar
i’ve seen this guy they did my boy dirty with that angle
the angle makes him seem like such a widdle guy
Arming sword
Arming sword
mace
Big spaulders
This guy is lovely
me
this anything useable? Sure looks pretty.
What is the hole for? some form of mount for a tassel or whatever they called? or a ventialtion hole? or something else
We need a frog mouth helmet
think it's too late from a couple decades
It's a hole for mounting a crest or holding a plume, it shouldn't go all the way though the bowl of the helmet though, but it does indicate we may have cosmetic items later down the line
Hell yeah
so you can inspect willy’s brain
Could war scythes be in the game?Is this a good website if so they maybe could https://royalarmouries.org/collection/object/object-30990
MIGHT BE A GUISARME
isnt one of those already in the game?
Love the articulation on the tail
Sir this is not actually the Art channel, please read the current channel name 🤓
and then post in the art channel
RAAAAA
not in relation to the game, but I figured maybe some folks here might know some stuff about these.
these replica swords are from my families COA, and they've been passed down from generations. I can tell they've been painted over once or twice, but the engravings still hold up gorgeously. Does anybody know what kind of swords these were? I highly believe they are of french origin.
I appreciate any information, thanks!
it looks a little bit like a rapier, but i might be mistaken
that's what I had originally thought, was possibly some sort of épée or Spada, but I'm not too sure really
i went searching and found this
its a 1700's spanish cavalry broad sword
or maybe can be from a different place but they look alike
https://swordis.com/types-of-swords/ here's a website where you can search for all types of swords. from what I've seen it looks like a sword from early Europe to 1800's American officer swords. may be a officers sword because of its decorated finish and engravings
Discover all the different types of swords from all over the world. Find out where and when they came from, how they're used, and what makes them unique.
although do your research and come to your own conclusion
painted barbute, kinda looks good
https://www.thearma.org/essays/G&WinRF.htm some stuff about grappling and wrestling from multiple centuries hope to see this become a more defined feature
Many of those copies are from Spain, I have to admit that the quality of the work isn’t that refined , you can still see the parting lines left in between two parts of the mold where the metal was cast.
Épée and spada both just means sword
the handhammer is real.....from baegerts art
All fake
Well yeah, you're not wrong, but they are different versions of the fencing rapier. The Épée was a straighter and longer blade compared to, say, a sabre, which curves, or a foil
sorry I guess I'm going a little
Well yeah but that's a "modern" fencing difference
also shoutout Hans Talhoffers works
fr he's mah man
I was actually showing Franky a bunch of his works yesterday, I was very interested going through his history
he has a lot of fantastic references
I agree they definitely aren't perfect. They weren't used for fighting, that's for sure. Or, if they ever were, they were filled and engraved to be put on display. Like I mentioned, you can definitely tell they've been painted at least once over the generations. I know my family didn't paint them, but it's obvious it happened somewhere down the line.
like said, they were used for display for my families coat of arms. I got curious and thought I might try and track down a bit of their history, if I can
did you guys knew that rapier comes from "espada de ropera" which roughly translate to "dress sword"
Today, I had the great pleasure of visiting the royal armoury in Turin, Italy. I’m going to send some pictures now
Knight armour, forged in Milan using burnished steel around 1550, the sword is not original.
Top: Rondel dagger belonging to the Landsknecht, second half of the XVII century
Bottom: A “Sfondagiaco” dagger from the early XV century, consisting of a robust yet sharp blade capable of sliding between armour plates and destroying chainmail links. This particular variant (alla Stradiotta)has two ear-shaped extensions to guard the thumb.
More Sfondagiaco daggers
Will post more
Pretty cool, I was able to recreate this treatise in the game
Nice

ello guys! Is there any good refrence of a 15th century training sword or a wester, like a genuine one?...hard to come by good references or fidings of one
What is this cloth called? It looks really good but i doubt its just called jupon
More pics
This may help idk how well but doesn't hurt to post http://myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.39987.html
i think I got you
fencer is now mod again
Thanks for this by the way! I forgot to mention. It's super appreciated
trying to help out as well. I can see where you're running into walls...
searching for a Wester of almost any kind tries to bring up results for "western" swords. Not exactly what we're looking for.. I will keep you updated if I find anything
disagree, blade looks way way way thinner than this broadsword
another spelling is "waster"
though i do recall reading that there are no sources for wooden swords ever being used
this has been on my mind a lot recently and i thank you for bringing this to thought
But wouldnt that not be munitions?
how so
like two pieces to make one
i've never heard that munitions plate specifically cant have multiple pieces
i mean i do figure plain breastplates were more common but some ill-fitting plackarts and paunces dont seem far fetched
i could agree with that because it does seem loose in some ways
can somemone find a video of someone putting on a plackart
houppelande
isn't the serpent the forerunner of the euphonium?
The serpent is the forerunner of low brass entirely
It was actually used more in secular settings, before other low brass instruments were invented, to support the bass singers
@trail fog
it eventually stopped being used, mainly due to fear of pagan influence and general falling out of style, and found more use in the orchestra
it eventually fell into obscurity there too with the invention of the ophicleide and tubas
I saw some stuff about wooden clubs being used for fencing practice
https://youtu.be/3X-hLXBLu8c?si=KnmRECLvp2bhlDBR idk if this goes here but it's a fun video
The billhook was custom made by Whitewell Arms
The ballistic head was from Ballistic Dummy Lab

The bill hook has some interesting properties
Split mitten is sex, we love the split mitten
all my homies love split mittens
Hmmm now why would they do such a thing splitting their mittens
dexterity
Hmm or maybe they pretended to be anthropomorphic goat people
Whose hands are split into two cloven hoofed fingers with a thumb
well well well..
Hmmm
i cant tell if these are similar to the ones in the image
they look more like renaissance/early modern
hawt
do you have a picture for the inner side of the arm harness
i saw that somewhere but ive lost it
i might be able to find it
best i got
the major couter is riveted (?) to the arm harness rather than fastened on via staple, like this one
i dont think i've seen too many examples of them being riveted on, it might be something from the later quarters of the 1400s
another thing worth note from the later half of the 15th century is that the wings of minor couters started to gravitate towards the inner elbow more to provide some extra (and cool looking) protection without hindering as much mobility
https://youtube.com/shorts/QvwWA3FULIc?si=KicwVMV4KYefnM9M
thought the three headed looked cool

Everyone who read this have to know, that the chain and the striking heads of that flail are made of steel and is a leathal weapon, that c...
An actual flail would be fun to fail with. Is fun in Exanima and Chiv.
more stuff for the cloth engine to play with
i doubt that this is the case
like, that only makes sense if it's issued equipment, which i think for the average levied man, he provided his own
I think from time to time it would be the lord's own equipment, so maybe in those cases the bp and plackarts could be split
And honestly if it's issued, standard bp would probably be way cheaper and cover more important parts of the body
instead of plackarts which do cover more but don't do much for the heart
and levies usually buy what is most important before anything else
eg bp, helmet, etc
there are a lot of accounts of lords buying thousands of breastplates and crap, arent there? the missaglia family were the professional mass producers of the stuff, i dont see why it wouldnt be provided to those who need it
ye but i think it varies
when and where is very important
it'd probably be a better idea to just arm a man in both bp and plackart if you don't have enough for everyone
like if you only have so many bps and plackarts, why split them when you could just improve the armor of people who already have a bp
It seems like the difference between no armor and some armor is much greater than the difference between some armor and more armor, when it comes to staying power on the battle field, and the morale of the troops
Like imagine how much more assured an army would be with 1000 people in armor vs 500 on much armor and 500 in none
I personally would be pretty unhappy if all i got was a helmet and a plackart, it looks and feels very exposed to have your upper chest where the most vital stuff is exposed
But of the alternative is a helmet alone with no chest protection i would be most grateful to my lord if he provided the plackart
All of this is oure conjecture ofc, i can speak to the period tactical thought on the matter by any means
It seems like there must be medieval treatises on military science, does anybody know of any?
me
not you!
oof that right guy kit is so bad
dude's little cousin wanted to tag along
left kit is also way too thick
it looks like something out of buhurt
its giving buhurt vibes because of how padded it is
it could just be a good (for buhurt) buhurt kit
definitely is a bit bulky but the proportions are at least there
You can barely see any padding
looking how it fits seems to imply padding but he could just have the biggest chest in the world
atleast it isnt belly armour
judging by the thickness of his calves and forearms i'd say he's just a big lad
it's a possibility tho I do reckon seeing that same cuirass on him while he's standing and it does look a bit large but i don't think it's due to padding
aventail also seems very padded but ive seen lots of repros like that
I think the bp is just big
that looks much better
it appears he is infact just a chunky lad
which we love him for
genuinely a pretty rad kit
that reenactment group has some very interesting kits
love em
and the monster energy tunic
squire brings worst kit ever, told to leave realm
one of my faves from them
they're really good at what they do man i love em
except for that bum ass squire
expel that guy from the kingdom
i feel like its understated sometimes just how great greathelms were
that aint your daddies greathelm
this guy's gettin skinnier with every photo lmaoo
the way he's stanced up affects how he looks by a lot
theres this nice kit from seemingly the same photoshoot?

Is there any documentation of knee strikes being used in HEMA
This is outside of the game's time period
late 15th centaury?
Yes, even the illustration below has text saying that armor is from 1525
its called milanese
This is not from similar times
and second this is like export armor from like the 1450s if im not actually wrong
The images you posted are from the 16thc
and yea they barely look like each other
you'll be seeing something like that
cool
Milanese armor was developed in the 15th century
when did I say otherwise?
check this out
U suggested milanese armor comes from a similar time
Which it doesnt cuz in the 16th century different styles were developed

two questons on historcal authenticity of certain armour elements
- Were hoods ever worn under helmets?
- Any evidence of brigandine arm protection?
I don’t know about proper arm protection, but there are a few manuscripts that date to the mid 15th century that depict brigandine pauldrons and spaulders
Yes
Yes, shoulder armor

Wym?
They r all too late for this games period
Those armors r 16century and one of them is fictional
out of the timeframe
regular greatswords are cool tho
There r greatswords already
odd looking war hammer
zweihander can refer to any two handed sword
but we do have a greatsword
supa intresting
if painted armour exist probably. But lets wait for one of the smart people to provide evidence
Is there any pictoral evidence of ideal physiques or conditioning systems for medieval warriors
Im curious what the ideal knight physique might have been
Swords of this size come more into fashion in the 16th c than the 15th c i believe
There definitely are huge swords in game though at the higher tiers
WASP WAIST. HOURGLASS FIGURE. (unironically)
I mean less in terms of fashion silhouette and more body comp
@terse bronze Hello Sir
iirc there are two little holes at the top of the helmets in game that would fit those I THINK

thumbs up emoji bruh
No but if you use the trainer mod for the demo and scale a great-sword you can achieve that
Oh ok thanks brother
But i would think it would be cool to have a boss ine the demo with this sword
can you put mods in the playtest or is that a no no
No, it wouldn't. That'd go against the whole premise of the game ;}}
Not possible yet
ok
yea true

I agree
There are some big chunks of metal and I love it.
I would love to know more about it, do you have an documentary recommendation about it?
No, it wouldn't. That'd go against the
too late for the game
And the third is a fake
I wonder if it would be possible to add a langes Messer, i love those swords
yea those fit through the game
are kreigsmessers? curved sword would be cool and that is the most thematical one i can think of
yes
hell yeah

try to post more historical references as this game is aiming to be 1450-1480, most of these are larp except for the second picture
2nd is decent and the last is out of date
jesus christ
i wish i could go back in time and kill the person who thought those visored barbutes were a good idea
oof, i like it
found this video talking about this, I have zero knowledge about history of armors so i'm very interesting to know why this is bad design
https://youtu.be/gb1csnUeebo
Is the visored barbute historical? In the Franken-Armor videos we'll take a look at infamous pieces of armor that have been relied on by many-a-reenactor and student alike as historical armor when in fact these are severely compromised pieces.

yeah that one is a 14thc bascinet visor on top of a 15thc barbute
but even then, i thins this particular one is pretty good for fantasy since it's composed of 2 historical elements with all their properties, silouhette ect
however the for honor barbute is just a heap of trash iron
how you would react to this? kek
that's one tiny head
I think they mean what makes it bad functionally
oh nvm

I think itd be more productive to post genuine manuscripts as opposed real life reconstructions as actors take some liberties
Does anyone have a reference for a paunce of plates being used after 1450 in England
Paunce of plates is just the name of what ppl call "faulds" btw
so they were definitely used
I think the beauchamp pageant dates after 1450 so
We should add the steel chair
Too early for this game
Hey guys, I'm not a pro in armor and stuff, so I had a question: could this kind of helmet be in Half Sword or is it too early?
Thanks for the answer! (And yeh this was the first image found on google 🤣)
check out "dargen-pommern" helmet for better results
usually just called dargen
Thx! I'll check that out!
blindfold
I wonder, would great/grand bascinets be in half sword? I don’t remember the period they were used but iirc they were used around the same time the game takes place in I think??
lik uhhh this type of helmet
yeah
hell yeah, that would be an awesome helmet to see in game, i never really see it often
Why were surcoats stop being used?
thats what i was gonna say yeah
it depends what you count as a surcoat though
true true
Ohh so plate was more pretty and practical
What about the coat of arms?
Yes!!! This is my favorite helmet, hopefully it gets added
no not plate
its very important, they stayed
iirc they still had clothing that would sometimes go over plate that displayed heraldic symbols and stuff, lemme grab some photos one sec
development of other textile covers
oh look its that little polish fauld
Is this like 15th century
tabards jupons and covered breastplates
yeah i think so
early 15th
halfsword spans throughout the late second half of the 15th century
Ohhh
seeing painted sallets would be dope though too
Were bascinets fazed out by then?
Odd why not in half sword considering popularity
great bascinets became popular
thank you, yeah what they said
the bascinet and maille aventail had essentially disappeared
steel plates covering the neck
Ohh
more sturdy
