Happens quite a bit, there's a famous depiction of Azincourt in a later 15thc MS that shoes archers wearing great bascinets and full plate, even gauntlets
But what "freaky" said is true, just wanted to add on that
So hot
ooo you will let me win oooo
defense and offense in one piece of equipment, what a baller
The armet will be interesting to see ingame, because I think we will be able to attach a wrapper to it, instead of having it be apart of the same helmet
so It'll make for some cool combos, whom we shall see later down the future
modular helms and armor pieces would be dope
Like wearing plackart no BP or whatever else

@robust tendon Guess what
@turbid shadow do you recognize what manuscript this is from? it looks very interesting

thanks brotherman
Good MS, Ivan should check it out some more
Here is a replica of the arm Harness that the Effigy Bears.
Great bascinet
Yoooo I've never seen the first one, where is it from? Looks Catalan/Aragonese/Valencian based on the coat of arms
This book of hours was produced ca. 1510-1520 for a member of the Catalonian Almugavar (or Almogàver) family, whose coat of arms appears throughout the manuscript in the borders of the lavish full-page miniatures. There are twenty-six full-page polychrome miniatures (three are missing), of which six were removed from the original quire structure...
yoooooooo many thanks bossk

Wtf
Looks like a poor replica
Maille looks okay but sallet looks off
Probably for buhurt or another style or armored sport
1430-40 depiction of st michael
Very similar to the tonlet/skirt/fauld seen here
1440(?) augh
One of the most beautiful depictions of a harness i’ve ever seen
I think this is from the Book of Hours
Hmmm. While ofc, these are artistic depictions, i wonder if this is attempting to portray painted or entirely covered armor
Reminds me a lot of this
Whole bunch of modern repros
Also any of you able to elaborate on the accuracy of this fellow’s harness? I really like the look of it and it looks reasonable, but not entirely sure
.
NO ITS A GOOBA
angus macbride in real type sallet
Dark and Darker added a new helmet, that's... A barbarian exclusive??? I'm ready for y'all to tear this apart lmao
why tf the sallet, the helmet commonly used for men at arms, restricted to the Nordic barbarian
Barbarian doesn't equal nordic
And I'd guess here "barbarian" doesn't mean "outside of rome" but rather the classic fantasy class of melee warrior / barbarian
Yeah but if you saw the barbarian in their game, it's got the whole Norse look to him
it's just so out of place
and see, that's the kinda facts I knew I'd find here lol, cause the dark and darker server is just full of screaming toxicity while here, we can actually break a conversation down 🗿
people were yappin back and forth bout it in the general chat saying "this doesn't belong in the game, it looks out of place!" And I'm looking like, yknow, there's a man casting fireballs from a stick, and you really got a problem with that?
go fuck yourself !!!!!! 🖕

Sorry I let the goofy side shine
We get a little silly around here
that's kind of a stupid argument here ngl, just because you have fireballs doesn't mean you have to throw cosmetic consitency out of the window
Like imagine having baseball caps and sneakers in lotr because "Well, there's magic and orks so doesn't matter"
well I mean I think there's a line that can be drawn 😂 this visored sallet from the unreal market isn't huge deal, but if a Bard came up to me with an electric guitar and started laying it down, I think I might call it 🫡
tho that would be pretty hardcore...
the electric luth in question
this is the references channel, not the place for it
spurs
For the boots?
ahh thats what I thought
I wasn't sure if it was something like that, or some sorta torture device lmfao

lol
them bitches look ooooold. Definitely have seen some time.
well the siege took place in 1474
imagine spending that much time in the dirt, in a well or whatever
I can’t imagine, of all things.. the little thin spurs you have in your boots is the only surviving thing
Neuss, the one thing that we'll never have in aeternis
@sullen charm @robust tendon @turbid shadow
Thank you guys for quite litteraly carrying this channel entirely, I never knew i'd see so much medieval stuff and varients of helmets and harnesses. Same with just thank you guys for helping me with idenifying stuff and asking how effective stuff is!
Oh this is just beautiful
1480-90
I think roughly mid 15th, not sure as couldn't find much about this.
1470s ish depiction of st florian, featuring a nice pearl(?) crown
1470 again
funky clothes, yet again 1470 (1490 according to a different source)

What about St George and St Florian?
Late 15th Century, allegedly. 1478 specifically. I wasn't aware Bearpaw Sabatons appeared that early, but that's something to note, maybe?

very much doubt that
Indeed, yet the artwork has them, which is strange.
Presumably, must be artistic licence.
It's not the sabatons, it's more the armet that the dude on the left is wearing
Looks 16th century
not 15th
I think the source is just incorrect, though I'm not too sure
It's hard to tell exactly what the construction is, but it's possibly, I have doubt it's 15th Century, though this is from "The Coronation of David" from 1501, so perhaps it's some strange transitional helmet.
Really, it's the Visor that is the most puzzling part. Especially for something allegedly from 1478.
I've actually posted this one before, and people more knowledgeable than I am have said that it looks like early 16th stuff
since it's 1 year into the 16th century, it's not gonna have that much of a radical change from older 15th century stuff
for example, this is the field harness of Ferdinand V, of aragon and sicily. This is dated 1490-1500.
very nice
closeups
love his harness
“Burgundian wars soldier”
I just love the way the sallet and bevor looks together

arahhaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
gonna try and find da resources of these later
this guy is me
1490s german armor lore
well gg
1490s armor lore part 2
he is sad that he won't be in da HS
UNLESS
ivan snicks him in
hopefully if extension comes it wont be viking samurai spartan warrior but 90s
bruv fuck the samurai fuck the Spartans and for sure as fuck the Vikings
ppl suggesting those just aren't aware of the sheer amount of variety just a decade can have
we can have these if HS team decides to make a BIG extension 1490 to possibly 1540 to maybee 1550 even though that would be LATE as fuck
1490 to 1500/1510 would be a great expension
still is relatively 15thc coded
but different enough to feel like a new thing
you are super right
but at the same time I feel like we kinda wanna 1400-1425 type shit
but I'd say maybe they do the 1490-1510 extension dlc and then they go into the meat and potatoes of that
I mean expensions could be forward and backward i feel
up to like 1415 ish the armor feels very 15thc anyway
life could be a dream
you still have armets, Gbascinets and such
look at that lance rest my god
Yee, though I can see why they decided to make it 1430-1480
if we were to make it something like 1440-1490 then I feel like we'd be missing a shit ton of stuff in 1430, one thing that comes in mind is some really cool bicoques tho I think they were still really present in the later times
not in the game
italian sallet visor with divided sights
inside of a brigandine
cool decorated breastplate
armor of ulrich IX von matsch
these are all italian
Bernat Martorell, 1434/35
Wow, Ive never seen a helmet of this type
wow
Reliquary of Charles the Bold
IMO : smooth german armor > fluted german armor
i like a nice balance
i go wild for fluted cuirasses but past that it gets a little extravagant
i like both of them very much but when you've got just the right amount of complexity in just the right areas its perfect
some spicy all'antica
imagine guarding a tomb, just for a glowing guy to come out after being dead for thousands of years
💕
And then what happened...
Read the Bible I aint gonna spoil it
Man I dont have the willpower
love the sallet on the left
tried making him on mord
he blessed the disciples and asked them to spread the good word of christ and then ascended to heaven
that's baller and you did a good job
thanks
I thought he got like... Taken out of this world for peopls sins?
maximillian style though
tho yeah this is beautiful
smooth maxi > fluted maxi
never seen it
hopefully we get a dlc for this period of armor
good sallet
zweihanders/proper greatswords would be so nice
that and early period, maybe william the conquerer's day
actually havent heard them called that, but i can see it
second worst bossk opinion after “hounskull armets good”
they are good
middle finger.
they are pretty doo doo fart if you ask me…

excuse me… don’t make me unleash the hound.

funky
i love early armets
yes they are quite nice
funky (derogatory)
more of a transitional period guy, myself tho
jupons my beloved
hounskull bascinet my beloved
and the pazallo ducale basc
however you spell it, i forget
Yorkshire slop my favourite
the hounskull armet fits the same period as the palazzo ducale gb
Was about to post this image and talk about the fourth one and how similar the pointed skull is to a bascinet
we should boycotte stock image companies
true
"PAY ME BECAUSE I TOTALLY OWN THIS"
rigid neck armet btw
great bascinet time beat, but armet
si
Just realised i commented on your art on twitter this morning
he lived a perfect and pure life, and was killed - in the old testament the only outcome of sin is death, hence why sacrifices were always necessary, but jesus kind of became the ultimate sacrifice and paid in blood what he did not owe for all of humankind'
This is why he is sometimes called The Lamb of God, or just The Lamb, because a lamb was often a sacrificial offering.

lotta cool helms in this script
1448 Innsbruck
I love the 15th century but boy were sallet popular
Not always and it depends on decade and location
armet was pretty popular, you also have GB, bicoque, kettle
St george stuff
Just not a lot of hounskul or pig faced bascinets which are two I like the look of
True
Does anybody here have Eastern European armor by chance?
i don’t have much
some lithuanian and byzantine stuff
pickelhaubes with hounskull visors are always pretty dope
more lithuania
The pointy pot hat is so ugly but so prolific
so they had just foot soldier like equipment?
Well the lemellar is an iconic component of the eastern panoply
Bloody bastards shield
This is the best thing i've ever seen
it is absolutely swagger
if i ever get into bohurt or whatever its called, ill get a kit with that helmet
The Britons Coat of Arms, you're gonna love them 😉
You wanna know who else got the drip ?
it's the English men ofcourse !
Noice.
++++

does anyone have a small collection of armets with hounskull visors? similar to this
im trying to figure out where they were popular and get drawing reference and all that
found one

His harness is so fucking good
Also some really cool horse armor
I wonder, do they get these custom made or make it themselves
they make it themselves
they commission it or make it
two sides
grim reaper upgrade
damn looking good
we balling with da pollax
hmm I wonder if it fits the time frame hmmmm hmmm hmm
It fits trust....
Jk!!!!!
thoughts?
Classic old modern drawings, overall "ok" but actually shabby when you look at it closer
also doesn't fit the game's timeframe
does it need to for me to post it here?
(visor is supposed to be above the grills)
a high medeival panoply, but kinda crusty
late*
the aventail, the legs, the upper arm defense, the shield
I'm less knowledgeable on weapons but the mace looks wayyy later
belt also looks odd
I don't think "knight's belts" were worn that way, i mean the way it hangs down.
I've only seen them straight across
maille is also drawn really poorly, looks oddly like wool
i stand corrected
a bit different in design
what a goober, bronze sabatons
or gilded idk what it's trying to portray. bit too orange for gilding
why he posing like that 💀
i think its meant to mimic the visorless version with a compact visor that still makes it legal for whatever combat sport he's in
maybe its just meant to be burnished with bronze or brass
easy to do
in what ways specifically?
sorry but i'm WAY too lazy right now to list everything
for me it's a little difficult to be specific but at a glance it is of less quality to other renditions. i can say that the rerebrace is a bit short though, and the aventail is fitted a lil odd, if compared to other, better depicted aventails. the mace is definitely late for the armour, and the shield is shaped weirdly again compared to better examples
It’s just too big
the aventail
It’s meant for neck protection i don’t think it hanged so low like it does here
graham turner does it best
on the topic of the art the lack of a spaulder is really odd
speaking of graham turner, this is his harness
great bascinet with cavalry visor
Looks very much like a frogmouth
mirror polish sallet
Absolutely beautiful harness
If anyone has a higher quality image it would be appreciated

visored barbute 😱

his head though... dude looks uncomfortable asf
similar one
made by Jeffrey Wasson, decorated by Ugo Serrano
Why the holes in the breastplate i wonder? Lightening holes for a tourney where thrusting is prohibited maybe?
But not on anythint except the breastplate and the neck of the Gb?
yes
note the flat tips
this is from the same manuscript Bossk posted
yes, ventilation too i'd guess
that helmet's so dope

Lance with the stop but no lance rest 🤔
I think they are arming swords
They were the most popular one handed blade that is almost always paired with a shield

what were those types of handguards called?
i've seen them quite a bit
Also i've a question about all'antica stuff. i'm aware it was used, but to what extent is what i am not sure about. Like would this manuscript be a good resource of what could be worn in field/etc?
I've my suspicions about some of these being artistic liberty
S guards, but Schiavonesca guard will be more precise, you'll find swords exactly like that
thanks
Italian amours worn without a hauberk or a separate mail skirt.
But just the mail skirt attached to the fauld, and separate loose short sleeves. Smart choice to save weight and tire less your warhorse.
From a 1448 painting by Lo Scheggia. Exactly like Urlich IX's cuirass in Churbug.

repro by François l'Archeveque
I think this was the ref that ivan used lol
Looks really fucking sick
"francois l'archeveque armurier" on Facebook, go take a look at his stuff
it is top notch
but do you know what else looks sick? this
OFC
@sullen charm bro, look at this scheke
drip
your schnoz goes under the visor, yes?
who is getting it the best
i love this ms!
idk if it's this exact ms or another one from the same series but there's a page showing a bishop(or whatever his rank is) in armor with a mitre ect
I think i've seen those before, it's like the bishop's hat with maille right?
Games actually pretty close to this exactly wow 😯
Can you guys guess this coat of arms ;)?
A video shoving how to dress in and wear armor (harness) from late 14th century. The harness is a detailed reconstruction based on the effigy of the Black Prince (1330-1376) in the Canterbury Cathedral, other relevant effigies, paintings in 14th century manuscripts and late 14th century armour displayed in The Royal Armories in Leeds. For more i...
Very quick, you've got some really nice memory 👌
It's a pretty well known video tbf
But still, do you know the name of this coat of arms ?
it has some interesting design
I think it's his own
not that he's noble but i think he made it himself from scratch
was it possible that nobles make their own personal coat of arms ?
doubt it
but i'm saying that he ola onsrud made that coat of arms up
he isn't affiliated to any noble family and shit
A video showing how I made the surcoat I use with my 14th century armour (harness).
Maybe he talks about it in this video
this is a very majestic piece of art, but the price.... I think only kings and rich noble families can afford this
Ceremonial armor of Charles V, ca. 1512–14
So yeah a pretty noble fellow indeed
He's got that drip in him 🗣️🔥
Bossk, I wonder how many reference pictures you have in your storage... it must be at least 1000 pictures

I didn't have that one in storage I just knew what to search on google lol
But I have a lot of ref pics on my pc for mordhau modding
oh yeahh i forgot you can auto search via picture reference
It's also a pretty well known harness lol but yeah
i thought they did, to some extent? james douglas's son changed the coat of arms after his father died
About expensive harnesses, i'll never be tired of mentioning this but - there's accounts of armors fully gilded in gold with jewelry enbedded in it
And charles the bold once paid for 1 (one) sallet the same price as for ~4 "average" complete harnesses
then idk
i vaguely remember something about people having kind of a "base" coat of arms and then every family member having a unique little spin on it
like, warwick kingmaker's coat of arms is super unnecessarily complex, but it's not the coa of his whole family
additionally, considering family members could be enemies of each other, having your own personally identifiable coat of arms that is separate from say your brother's or uncles would make things much less confusing even if it was just a few extra additions
(Richard Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville, 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos)

not medieval
then dont post it in references
Decorative Knight armor with a Bird shaped Helmet
Source : Prague Castle
what do you guys think of the design ?
Frightening or Drippy ?
is it victorian or is it The Real Deal
I'm not sure, but it looks very fancy so it must be Victorian
Because the details on the armor is just insane
I did more research, it turned out to be Avian Styled Armor,
That's either from Czechia or Slovakia
I don't know which century though
all i found on it
it's not even victorian I think it's modern
Yeah
Prague castle kinda sucks
In general armors that are in castles do suck cuz they aren't a museum
It's "based" on a real harness tho lemme find it

Costume Armour for Foot Combat, probably made for Albrecht, Margrave of Brandenburg, Duke of Prussia, Northern Germany (Brunswick?), c. 1526
(made for his wedding)
what a nerd
It was made for foot combat, for his wedding
like tourney and stuff
it's all fun and sports...
thats like messing up the choreography for your Cool™️ Star Wars™️ Themed Wedding™️
Parts of a Landsknecht Garniture, Innsbruck, c. 1520. A28
This magnificent armour is designed to simulate and thus invoke the flamboyant clothing of the German Landsknechte
Even with its complex and elaborate decoration, created by combining embossing, chasing, etching and fire-gilding, this remains a practical war armour, probably made for a nobleman in command of squadrons of professional Landsknecht infantry.
i really like 16thc armors showing traits from clothing
like the rolls and slashes here
too bad the game sets in 1430-80
Gunpowder ruined everything fr
uh?
Imagine if Gunpowder was never discovered, would we still use medieval armors ? And how much could we possibly improve it ?
yknow gunpowder didn't have as much of an impact as many people think
in term of armor i mean
many people seems to think that gunpowder = armor disappears
took like around 200 years lol
And it's still because of the gunpowder, ofcourse the weapons wasn't that strong before but after 200 years it became so effective they stopped using armors and very rare to see some people use it, because it has a very low chance to deflect a bullet
they used some plate armors in WW1 but it didn't end well for them....
When you think about some soldiers and police guys still use plates nowadays
it just looks way lamer . . .

3D PRINTED
is posting Codpiece armors allowed here ?
bogos binted?
yea

make it fit between 1430-1480
I have some really weird ones, idk how they even wear it
it doesn't go straight, it goes with a curve up
not sure, but holy shit i HAVE a 3d printer and now I wanna use it so much
me on my way to 3d print Milanese armor from aeternis
they just.. like.. tied it ?
How's that even possible ☠️
codpieces are removeable pieces
Like, do they just put it on it or inside ?
tie it to the maille or arming garment like any other piece
this one just happen to be on the dick for a myriad of reasons like fashion
I wonder if it hurts to get hit in there
I mean your dick isn't inside it so
I mean... it's better than not wearing any protection, Right ?
also that's for the metal 16thc ones, but there's also cloth ones
that just look like a bulge really but they're still codpiece
Hmm
The armors really wouldn't look great without its own Heraldry
it's really something that improves the fashion of the armor even further
Yes
for some reason the one you posted is blurry
Some crests looks goofy though, such as this horse head

Unicorn
Put a dragon or a lion head at least

he gets the girls
It's going to be a dream to have jousting be in HS
I really love with his arts, it looks so majestic, I wish to reach his level of art one day

Briton Crest ? I recognize the black hawk symbols
Breton*
Hermine*
and no apparently it's supposed to be Thomas Grey, Marquis of Dorset
See posts, photos and more on Facebook.
I see
The Hermine is the symbol ?
Thanks for correcting me 🙌
it's just unique, like if you see a knight with this coat of arms you immediately recognize which region he's from
Yeah it's cool
heraldry is important, if you just see knights without surcoats that display their coat of arms, nobody would know who their fighting
that's what modern movies fail to realize sadly
Breton, even if I don't like them
I just hate english more
Friendly fire
more pics
What about the French ?
cooler
[bossk is french I thrink]
yeag
honestly both the english and french and Italians have kick ass armor styles, that are fairly similar to each other
You probably still have some ptsd because of the hundred years war, that's why you hate the English

We won that war mate
English are just our best enemies, we love hitting each others in the face with comically large looney tunes hammers
ik, but that war was so looong it gave everyone ptsd, they lost insane numbers of soldiers and innocent people
Just because everyone heard about Crécy, Poitiers and Azincourt already, please check out Castillion, Formigny and Patay thanks
One of my favorite characters during that war was Joan of Arc, too unfortunate she didn't deserve such a painful death like that...
Yep
Main reason why I hate burgundians
good thing they took a massive L to the swiss and french later on
look up Bertrand Du Guesclin
He won 5 battles !? This guy must be a genius

Isn’t this a movie prop?
Yes but it’s made by a very good source

No it's a real harness that was used in a movie

it did but eventually you stop seeing arm harness and leg harness and instead just cuirasses and helms instead
then those go away for the most part
I dont think that was the main reason to be honest
its more about economy
armies got bigger and now they were manly consist of just people not by feudal lords who could afford this kind of armor
and ofc armor got less effective. However France still had their cuirassiers
correct me if i am wrong
i think it was more about economy in the way that after the industrial revolution guns were easier and better to make than bespoke armor that protected against pike but not shot in a world where shot was the only thing you had to worry about
Ye agree on that cuz it feels like plate or chain armor would be still effective even in 7 years war and etc
Cuz a lot of countries like Prussia and Russia were relying on melee charge
If i am not mistaken
Napoleon did almost the same reform
like this
the idea was to rush through the enemy line infantry

The charge at Feldlager 2023 was the pinnacle moment in the event and a new milestone in our understanding of medieval history.

yup, do question if we'll see Burgundian arms and armor base game, don't think so but they could be dlc
i wish triternion devs weren't so fucking mute
show snippets, talk to the community you morons
Yeah, Honestly mordhau could've been something really cool if it had proper direction to what it's trying to be
that's why i always insist to john man to post snippets as soon as possible on aeternis
the devs clearly didn't know shit about what period they wanted the game, instead they just added it random shit for the sake of it
if the devs had some sense then we could've had maps that recreate actual battles from history
hot take: the contributors are one of the main reasons why aeternis got popular
hell that's not even a hot take, that's facts
without roberto, or Terath, or john man, or any other person that added in proper arms and armor the server wouldn't be that popular
fax
the server was popular because of the new good cosmetics that were added, though to not discredit aleks he did a bunch of shit with the tints and the custom slot system
aeternis is "the mod with custom armor" not "the mod with combat changes" or whatever
combat changes are pretty mediocre tbf
i don't really mind that that much but my point is if it wasn't there no one would care, no one plays aeternis for the combat changes
aeternis blows the vanilla shit so far out of the water it’s embarassing
the only really good vanilla mordhau piece is the maximillian set
