If you're not infected by the Sanguine flu, a stake can be jammed into your heart just fine without fear of dying.

there is some serious tech with the pavis and spear combo now, hard to explain, but you can manipulate whether its held high or low in front of you while thrusting, and even if its more out forward at an angle, im sure the smaller pavis also has the same thing going, but i got best results with the larger one.
hard to explain how exactly to do all of it, but it has to do with holding right click and moving the shield to desired position, and then entering thrust mode with your spear.
(sure someones already found this but i found it on my own and its pretty neat
