To reduce settings further in an attempt to conserve more resources:

1. Exit Half Sword then download the attached engine.ini.txt file and rename it to engine.ini
2. Press Windows key + R to bring up a Run box, in the Run box put %LOCALAPPDATA%/HalfSwordUE5/Saved/Config/Windows/ and click OK or press enter.
3. Once you're in that directory place the engine.ini file there. Right click>Properties on the engine.ini file and check the Read-Only box, or it will get deleted upon starting the game.

If your progress has reset or you create a character and progress is not saving and/or crashing -

1. Exit Half Sword, in Steam right click Half Sword>Properties>General and turn off Steam Cloud
2. Go to %localappdata%\HalfSwordUE5\Saved\SaveGames and if the GameProgress.sav file is 0kb, it is corrupt, delete it. Settings.sav may also be 0kb, delete it as well or changes made to settings will not save.
3. If these files are not 0kb, browse up to %localappdata%\HalfSwordUE5\ and move the entire Saved folder elsewhere for safe keeping, so then the HalfSwordUE5 folder should be empty.
4. Start Half Sword and create a character, change some settings, restart the game and see if everything has saved.

I've read otherwise, that they would have their arming swords to join in the fray once the opposing line breaks their own and the archers are pressed.

Typically, you don't want you archers to die. Archers at the time trained for years and years to build up the strength needed to draw bows with several hundred pound draw weights. Losing that person is a pretty big set back. Unlike the front line infrantry who were mostly expendable. But in the same regard, if the line is broken, and the archers need to draw their side arms, they also need to be quite skilled so their lives aren't lost, and the next battle has enough archers still.

the whole winding up and using momentum to launch a throw with a poleaxe looks cool and feels great to me when it lands

i play with a high dpi and in-game mouse sensitivity which can lead to janky movements if you're not used to making super small movements with your mouse. after i got used to the sensitivity and consistently winning fights, i started experimenting with using jankier and jankier movements into my fights which lead to me being comfortable with using my weapons in unconventional ways
