sorry for the super late reply: the slipping is most likely you walking in the "mud" in slums, try staying on the wood, especially with heavier gear. when you make a new character you should take the heaviest weapon you have into training and just swing it around for a few minutes

Last night I died twice because a spear went straight into my chest, then got glitched and made me fly one of the times.

Stabbed straight through both ends of the middle of my metal chestpiece.
