your save has corrupted. I think even if you made a new character it would just reset every time. I recommend deleting the entire SaveGames folder, after you've exited Half Sword of course, and then start the game back up and go into progression to start a new character, it should be fixed. You'll have to start over unfortunately. But keep a shortcut to the SaveGames folder and back it up every so often, if you want anyway

The way I do it personally is I have a folder called backups, then in there I make a new folder named the current date denoted by letter, for example 20260213a and then I copy the entire Saved folder in %localappdata%\HalfSwordUE5\ into the dated folder I made. After making significant progress or some such, if I want to back up again on the same day, I make another folder named 20260213b and copy the Saved folder again into that folder. So on and so forth.

You can do it however is convenient for you though. Really, the main file that needs to be backed up I believe is just the GameProgress.sav file, I just copy the entire folder to be safe since it also carries the file for settings and such. Also make sure to keep Steam cloud saves off for Half Sword.

I thought it may have had something to do with looting equipment from someone you've killed, because I looted all of the armor off of a guy, killed him, then looted his weapons. When I checked, all of the armor I stole was white but his weapons were orange.

Just a suggestion here: I'd love to see the mercs you hire go into the abyss with you and if you both survive, they become a free companion until they die again. Maybe a limit of 1 to 2 mercs can be saved this way but it'd be a cool incentive to keep your friends close. It'd also work in favor of the future split screen adaptation.
