When you're in a iron gate they give the most optimal defensive positions and often have the least amount of movements.

Boar tusk are offensive states and stances, the biggest thing is that you move into boar tusk OFTEN after a defensive action

Most Poleaxe stances mentioned in fiore are exactly this format
