it just means to cut

and there are five hews and four counter-oppositions which is the zorenhaw, krumphaw, twerhaw, schilhaw, and schaitelhaw.

but the main idea behind a hew is to cut to the body or head and not to the sword, straight to the nearest of the four openings, and the sword is only blocked in the process of the hew

zorenhaw good, krumphaw sorta (for one willie bot doesn't hold the ochs, other than that there is a theory but it would be a bit tough to do, same principles of pressing the hands etc. can still be applied however), twerhaw good for one side only (right to left), schilhaw technically not but same principle with long edge instead of short, schaitelhaw yes
