in all honesty shield bashing gets the job done quicker but you can line up a stab while not pressing alt and then press it to stab, feels satisfying when you hit a vital with it but it's annoyingly floaty

Same here, I've gotten good with longswords and polearms but many onehanders I am still a novice at. I can slash with a falchion well but an arming sword is still trouble.

I feel like when i use a falchion its too boring/effective, like you block their swing then cut their leg, rinse and repeat, with a mace i can go to town on their knees, its pretty fun

Have you tried using the modular axe? Not the standard fighting axe that deals as much blunt damage as chopping, but the one with the same blueprint as the Warhammer.
