It's been happening the last several times I've played the game. Swords work for cutting only until I decide to stab them with it. After stabbing, doesn't cut anymore

I think it should be that weapons only do damage when actively ‘swung’ or moving, or basically have a force on them/you are moving quickly at it.
I don’t think it should just be the case that the weapon is resting there and basically cuts you in half. Anybody else experienced this?
