Without it on introduces its own types of issues though
You can try to keep it on and go to "Settings>Game>Adjust Lock On Strength"

AI has better control over its swings than a player does because it doesnt use an actual mouse
so it is also capable of holding the sword in a more rigid manner which treats it as live, so walking into AI usually = bad time from what i can see
