Within the specific context you've assigned that's a completely reasonable explanation but the same thing happens every time you fall on the ground regardless of injury or exhaustion.
Although I've managed to clutch from it, and I generally am good about not falling, I suffer from it as well.
Armor does not slow you down nearly as much as you'd expect, if you are strong enough to wear it in the first place, you just use more energy to move at the exact same speed as you would normally, and it's designed to not impede movement as much as is reasonably possible.
Half sword ground gameplay is just not finished yet, that's why it works the way it does right now.
