Though this is only one example. I still stand by what I said earlier, though a bit more generally. In single player games especially, but in multiplayer games too. If I were to bring up a counter-example, I'd probably name rainbow six-seige which went from a high-octane tactical shooter to a slow, unfun, campy slugfest due to numerous nerfs over the years and few to no buffs. Though I do see your point.

It's so insanely reliable I'm willing in 90% of abyss runs to use it as a main weapon instead of opting for slashing/chopping weapons

I can usually get past the first round unless it's pitchforks, but after that I usually am going against swords with a knife.

Spears are just an instant restart, I am incapable of approaching in a way that does not result in being impaled and they recover from missed strikes too fast to reach.

in the half sword position, you can block overhead swings, or redirect stabs by hooking the blade between the spikes.
