i just got more proofs, Its unreal. The only situation swordsman is picking a blade with bare hand is during the practice with blunt swords or in really bad situations where youre choosing between the life or hand

but its not just slipping that can cut you. if you grab a well shaped knife tightly enough to be able to swing it around you'll cut yourself. a sword weighting more (so more force applied to your skin) will cut you even more

generally, one would not squeeze down on the edges, and it would be used in close quarters for a variety of reasons like clinches and pommel strikes, and inserting the tip of the blade between Gaps in the armour. You could definitely put a VR headset where the head is supposed to be. But you'll not get very far tryna get the same mechanics as in blade and sorcery in VR.

Especially considering you can't even really retract your arms in game as you could easily do in real life

I don't think I've ever seen a successful VR migration attempt from a modder. Like you can mod games so you can control where the arms are going but not grip and manipulate the weapon with you controllers it will all be really static. And for a game with this complex physics I seriously doubt it will be very effective to rewrite the whole thing and still have the half sword feel.
