Stabbing Advice 🔪

When stabbing with alt (with swords), pull your weapon in closer to your body as opposed to extending your elbow out. It's much more accurate and stable.

Alternatively If it's a two handed weapon it is recommended to hold right click first, then drag your mouse to aim the weapon. Then from there double click and hold left mouse (you can try alt a little as well but clicking is more stable)
This is a much more stable and accurate stabbing pose, and a proper halfsword thrusting stance.

To practice your aiming, there's two different ways you can keep your FOV.
Third Person- with Low FOV, so you get a closer view.
or alternatively;
First Person- with High FOV, so you get a wide view of your weapon and it's positioning.

Also the ai makes mistakes with their shield. Wait til they lower their shield slightly and do a top right to bottom left slash to get above it. You can also press X to switch your top and bottom hands with two handers, make your weapon point to the left where they have their weapon, and swing from the left towards them.

You need to start moving your mouse earlier, if you wait too long that's what happens. With enough practice and experience you'll be able to kind of predict what movements the AI is going to make. This one isn't as clean and I used high guard for it but you get my drift.

Very solid cheek strike in the first one. You seem to stay mostly out of range and move in when the opponent makes a mistake, which is a good strategy, but you have no control over the fight, and what the opponent is doing; so you rely on lucky hits to win ;p

If some of your movements in the second one was more deliberate, and less flaily, you could have taken advantage of the opening you created when you hit the opponents longsword to the side.

The game makes it too easy to cheese with stabs. If you hold alt the AI almost always shells up and goes on the defensive, so you can just abuse it by baiting out attacks and shanking them.

disagree with this, HS translates how armor would defend you from swords and how knights would be killed by stabbing them via the gaps, HS also translates the techniques that people used back then but HS also gives you opportunities to do your own thing and does not limit you to strict movements, as you the player stil have full control of what you do.

Mix in more alt stabs, there's moments where theyre wide open and you can get a stab in. Also sometimes your guard is too rigid, you swing to block just a tad bit too late.

One of the things i did with my students was to just point a sword at them. When sparring that usually resulted in them trying to bat my sword to the side to get through, and me just pivoting the sword to keep it pointed at them.

A lot of times that strategy ended up in me winning the sparring matches due to them just walking into my sword.

It was suprisingly effective at teaching people to take control of the opponents weapon.

One of the points im making, with sword gameplay as of now. Pivoting doesn't really exist, if the AI chooses to stab when theyre close enough more often than not you can't sidestep in time. Which is why I play the way I do in my clips, it's not lack of knowledge in swordplay as much as it is experience with halfsword mechanics and gameplay. The concussive damage as well hasnt been refined yet too, ive had occurrences where the AI has slightly nudged my head with a bodypart and im out cold.

Having the option to chose between passing steps and short steps would make it a lot better.

Passing steps are steps where you swap which foot is in front, so you step with the backmost foot and and end with that foot forward.

Short steps lead with taking a short step forward with the front foot and following with the back.

Those are the two most used steps for controlling distance.

Use shift to move back and forth constantly you gotta get a feel for range, don’t be overly aggressive. Kicking has backfired on me occasionally because you can kick into their blade and cripple yourself.

Kicking also puts yourself off balance and the ai knows this which is why sometimes they rush forward when your kicking and you end up on the ground

I think probably my favorite difficulty is the one rigth above farmer because theres no armor.

With one handers this is as close as I’ve gotten, I don’t have enough confidence to try to deflect like that since I’ve lost my hand/deflected it into my own gut or neck more often than not

when you have armour your swords basically dont even do anything and you have to swing it super slow and you can only swing once every 3 seconds unless you want to get exhausted, it seems like.

Stamina management is a thing, just don’t swing wildly. Aim for the parts with no armor.

and also where you have to block attacks or dodge them instead of just relying on armor

I don’t think anyone just stands there and lets the armor do the work. Concussive damage is broken rn and ai always gets your weak points or gets you to the ground if you play like that. It just takes more accurate swings.

the swords are slow tho, so id assume its more difficult to hit weak spots, but it also doesnt feel like the swords have the same impact they have on the lower difficulties

Like I said with one handers it’s a bit of a gamble, that’s a rapier he’s using so it’s designed for that. But against the weapons in the game which are much heavier it’s a lot harder and longer it’s harder to do so.

the big huge swords take like 0.5 seconds to complete a swing instead of more like 0.1 or 0.2 for normal half swords.
