You can't ever have a kick with 100% consistency, but you can get preetty close by just practicing that kick over and over again.
Plus it's actually pretty easy to overshoot your kick, so they do go pretty high.
But as you said, not always.

Solution: Clean reinstall

Delete all files relating to the half sword playtest existing in your local files. Be sure to back up your screenshots folder if you took any!

when stabbing with alt (with swords), pull your weapon in closer to your body as opposed to extending your elbow out. It's much more accurate and stable.

Alternatively, If it's a two handed weapon, my recommendation is to hold right click first, then drag your mouse to aim the weapon, then from there, double click and hold left mouse (you can try alt a little as well but clicking is more stable)
This is a much more stable and accurate stabbing pose, and a proper halfsword thrusting stance.

to practice with your aiming, there's two different ways you can keep your FOV.
Third Person- with Low FOV, so you get a closer view.
or alternatively;
First Person- with High FOV, so you get a wide view of your weapon and it's positioning.

I suspect that this was talked already, but what's up with maces? I feel that they have been nerfed ridiculously, as even clean head contacts don't do damage. Like, even if the enemy is helmless. Hammers and some other types of blunts work fine, but maces are a joke. Also they become ridiculously unwieldy even if you just ran out of breath from sprinting in armor, not even talking about a smidge of damage. Takes ridiculously long to prepare a swing.

Especially if you're lucky and you manage to hit them with the polearm at the same time, or put it in a position that wouldn't be that nice for them while you do it

It's just a rarer chance of it actually doing it after you've done it for about 2 times already

Usually when you load another Single Combat, Brave Stand, Carnage, etc it's back to normal rarity of it doing it again
