The game is physics based so try starting the swing with a "snapping" motion on your mouse and then let the mouse button go. The inertia will carry the weapon through better than you can by trying to hold the mouse button and dragging all the way through the swing. Then switch hands and swing from the opposite direction in the same way.

allow me to grab my copypasta 
when stabbing with alt (with swords), pull your weapon in closer to your body as opposed to extending your elbow out. It's much more accurate and stable.
Alternatively, If it's a two handed weapon, my recommendation is to hold right click first, then drag your mouse to aim the weapon, then from there, double click and hold left mouse (you can try alt a little as well but clicking is more stable)
This is a much more stable and accurate stabbing pose, and a proper halfsword thrusting stance.
to practice with your aiming, there's two different ways you can keep your FOV.
Third Person- with Low FOV, so you get a closer view.
or alternatively;
First Person- with High FOV, so you get a wide view of your weapon and it's positioning.

Side note, I have been experimenting with longsword wrestling and arm trapping while fighting. Things have been swell, except when I am incapable of stabbing a man who can whisper into my ear.
I think it's a skill issue that I can't stab for ass, but I can grab a man's shield arm and manhandle him like he owed me groschen.

Practice and experimentation is key, also looking up some actual Fencing/HEMA vids does you well from my experience

There are many tutorials for it, all you have to do is just look one up on YT and pick the one that looks most interesting to you
it's actually pretty easy, i do a lot of them myself and find them very fun.
