Armor damage and wear is planned, but you gotta understand that it’ll be done in an authentic way. IRL armor was designed for it NOT to be easy to damage fastenings and points. And for the plates themselves, you aren’t doing anything more than scratching anything bigger than a rondel, and even then it’d have to be weak steel, a very strong hit, and be perfectly square on no deflection.

i keep my guard out against enemies with small/short weapons, keeps them at a safe distance and you can make small flicks to catch them if they close in. then i hold the sword to the side or over head against other longsword or polearm users to do more aggressive parrying and close the gap when its safe
