The void is inescapable in the Demo version.. if you're wanting to play the Playtest version (that has the outdoor arena) that's something you have to request through the Steam page.

Best way to defeat the Scythe guy is attack him head-on, with a bladed weapon, as fast as possible. Don't let him get a chance to even swing!
