Hey, I havent used lossless scaling in a while because I found other methods that worked better but now I wanted to test how gray zone warfare reacts to it because I have tried it like a few days ago in star citizen (sc already runs decent on my pc but I still wanted a bit more FPS) and instead of making my fps go up it did the opposite so I thought it was just because its star citizen or better known as bug citizen, anyway it just happened again in gray zone warfare.
I cant get a screenshot of the lossless scaling FPS counter or whatever counter that is and the ingame fps counter but its around 10-15 and the lossless counter is at like 180 / 360, I have no idea if thats my FPS.

Overlays are a common culprit that lead to failure of window capture for Lossless Scaling. In general, if LS randomly stops functioning, it is likely due to an app update that has auto-enabled overlays such as: Steam, Discord, Epic Game Store

Or third party applications such as medal.tv or clipping software that interfere with window capture. Please check if any recent app update/new application has introduced the recent instability. Otherwise you can request for further assistance in https://discord.com/channels/1042475930217631784/1113058376071528448 or https://discord.com/channels/1042475930217631784/1042905137494102106

Recent incidents: Discord update from late March 25 auto enabled its overlay

even if you don't see them, close all the overlays

teal zenith
#

wow medal wasnt the problem

#

also when I tab out my fps go back to 30

#

so they go up when I tab out

#

so both discord and medal werent the problem

#

maybe its steam

odd ridge
#

even if not visible

#

and also the nVidia instant replay, game bar, etc

teal zenith
#

Im gonna restart the game with steam, discord and medal off or closed

teal zenith
#

is it now off or do I need to do those others aswell?

#

steam should also be off right?

odd ridge
#

yeah all off

#

or check one by one which is causing it

teal zenith
#

I do have HWinfo32 and fan control

teal zenith
#

and I dont wanna restart the game over and over again

#

okay now the FPS dont drop to 10 BUT I still get less fps than without scaling

#

Im getting like 10 fps less

odd ridge
teal zenith
#

yes

odd ridge
#

its expected

teal zenith
#

what you mean?

odd ridge
#

5-10 fps might drop when scaling

#

as it needs gpu resources to work

teal zenith
#

wait then for what is lossless scaling?

#

I thought its to get more performance

odd ridge
teal zenith
#

what do you mean with final FPS?

odd ridge
#

What is your ingame res and original fps?

teal zenith
#

1080p but does original fps just mean what fps I have without lossless scaling?

odd ridge
#

yes

teal zenith
#

50-66(can drop and go up depending on where I am)

odd ridge
#

and your display res?

teal zenith
#

also 1080p

odd ridge
#

then turn scaling mode to off

#

also monitor ref rate?

teal zenith
#

you mean the hz?

#

I forgot what ref stands for but I think it stands for hz

odd ridge
#

refresh rate of monitor?

#

and do you have freesync/gsync on?

teal zenith
#

ah yes that is what it meant

teal zenith
teal zenith
odd ridge
#

do you know your gpu usage when gaming without ls?

teal zenith
odd ridge
#

Okay, since your base fps is varying... id suggest you download RTSS to cap fps (and also enable Reflex frame limiter in rtss for better latency and framepacing)
If the lowest you see is 50, then cap to 40 or 45 and then use x2 / x3 /x4 FG multiplier in LS

Not to hijack the thread (I hope this is okay), but I have a similar issue I'm not sure if by the same cause (Though I can say with confidence it's not an overlay issue like the above). It doesn't apply to games but to my browser (I use LS on youtube videos), i.e if I have a youtube video playing and the video controls are not showing, it'll lag like crazy. I've checked via FPS overlay that it's so. It also plays normally when the browser is not in focus.

It wasn't always this way (only since sometime within the past month or two) and I've tried both display captures and the beta and the previous version beta, nothing works.

Fun: It seems to be caused by OBS. Though when I had it on automatic window capture method the whole time, it did this more consistently than with either other option.

# vapid lake Google "How do you keep discord from starting"

I did sometime ago. It didn't work then. I did find a setting that keeps it from running in the taskbar if I shut it down. I still haven't found a way to keep it from starting automatically. I will look at google again to see what I missed. Thank you Gizzmoe

@odd ridge srry for ping but I dont think you‘ve seen my reply

#

i saw it... i had to re read all the messages 😅

#

and if the overlays issue is solved, and you are only getting around 5-10 fps drops... that's normal and you just have to tweak some settings and cap fps slightly lower than the minimum you are getting without ls
