Does anyone know why my dual gpu setup isnt working?

Setup: 9070 xt & 6500xt @1440p

Situation:

When plugging in my DP to my 2nd, or LS GPU, my pc sets the LS GPU as the preferred for gaming (as seen from 100% util from task manager) and does the same thing when I plug in my main gpu where it sets that at the preferred gpu for gaming. When connecting to the main GPU I am no longer utilizing my 2nd GPU for LS.

For some reason whenever I try to set a preferred gpu on windows 10 it only shows 1 out of the 2 gpus. It will only display my 2nd gpu when I plug in the HDMI to it but now still only shows 1 gpu for both options.

A summary of what I tried
-plugged DP to LS GPU while setting it as the preferred in LSFG. This would cause my LS GPU to automatically set itself as the preferred GPU on my main PC.

no matter what i do or how manytutorials i follow, i can only get fram gen to run on the 7800XT, if i ever select the 6600XT as favorite GPU, i get 5 to 6 frames, 20 tops no matter the game or resolution

(game tested on was hunt showdown, in a lobby alone)

#

here the only config i manage to use to get proper frame gen

#

was trying to follow this tutorial

#

my guess is that i should set the output display to the 6600XT and connect my displays to it, but no matter what i do, i can only see the 7800XT as an option

# calm lodge no matter what i do or how manytutorials i follow, i can only get fram gen to ru...

yea man same. Ive tried everything. At one point I was able to get it to kinda work where I see 100% util on both my cards but the lag was just so bad. What I did notice was that when I connected my display to my 2nd card and turned off LS, GPU 2 would have 100% utilization which to me tells me that the game is running on GPU2. But when I try to connect it to GPU1 it does the same thing where utilization is 100% for GPU1

#

I think this might be a wwindows problem where it forces whatever gpu the display is connected to becoming the main render despite the settings preferred gpu settings we input for windows settings

calm lodge
#

Seems like that would be the issue yeah

#

Couldn’t find any solution or workaround for that just yet though

#

The tutorial I sent mentions « setting the second gpu to only generate frames and scaling » be besides just mentioning it, he doesn’t show how to do it at all besides setting préférez GPU to the secondary one

Tried connecting a second display and didnt work. Ive got a 3070 laying around so I might try that

#

Honestly though this app wasnt a waste of money still bc I guess it can stack with radeon FG on top of its own LSFG. I went from 100-120 frames with radeon FG on Monster hunter wilds on 1440p max settings to 165/175 stacking both

You can stack them wtf I must try this

bleak depot
#

yea it works incredibly well

#

I was curious how high I could get and it was 270 on max settings lol

@calm lodge another guy made a new forum with a similar problem to ours. Maybe it has issues with 6000 series cards?

Stacking Frame Gen on wilds. Using in game FSR 3 Native upscaling. Turned off upscaling on LS and just have Frame Gen on LS

#

Using a GTX 4070

Well the fact that only 1 gpu would show up at a time for both of you is weird. It sounds like a setting somewhere is putting your second gpu to sleep/powersaving. And it only wakes up if a monitor is connected to it.

You both upgraded to windows 11 right? If you look at the default high performance gpu setting, under advanced graphics settings in windows, does it show both gpus now?

calm lodge
#

It always did

I see, I misunderstood. I had thought you were having the exact same problem as Sudden.

calm lodge
#

Yeah I am having a hard time understanding what we are doing wrong sadly

@bleak depot I may be onto something

#

I have removed my 7800xt and plugged it into my PCIe gen 5 port, and after using passmark I notice VERY different scores (3 times difference)
My guess is that it simply didn’t have enough bandwidth, so I should try and work something out with my PCIe lanes

#

Found my issue

#

I was plugging my 6600XT on a PCIe gen 3 X16 lanes, that seems to be the problem

#

Yeah I would need to change mobo to have proper pcie slots for that it seems

calm lodge
#

Before doing that I’m gonna try to use a riser cable to use the gen 4 PCIe slot that I have in mine

#

Should arrive tomorrow, we’ll see if it changes anything

calm lodge
#

Bah, even with a riser cable to a gen 4 PCIe slot, the results are very similar (although a bit different)

#

I’m gonna have to get a new mobo it seems

bleak depot
#

Thats unfortunate. Seems like only the X version are able to make use of a 2nd gpu. But personally, dropping 150+ on an am4 mb wont be worth it

calm lodge
#

I am already using an x670e gaming plus mobo, so I am quite dumbfounded

#

And somehow now without changing anything and only using my 7800xt, I can’t seem to get proper FG anymore

#

Even though the 6600xt isn’t even in the system anymore

Since I don’t know what else to do imma try to use chat gpt to get more leads on what to do
