it says it pretty clearly, that type of maneuver isn't supported and you need to use transfer-to-moon maneuver

Ah I’ll test it out thanks.

This is what I get

#

only relevant "transfer-to-moon manuever" was transfer to another planet

Click "no insertion burn" & "Transfer" options to get an intercept. Pull up the maneuver node editor after creating the node and cut some dV to go from a collision to a rendezvous at whatever Pe you want. Honestly this version is buggy and performs worse than the previous version. I reverted after a couple hours.

Per version would it be best to go to V2.14 then?

2.14.3.0 has been relatively trouble free for me, while I kept finding bugs in 2.15. There never has been a "Transfer to Moon" function and probably never will be. I don't think the first person that offered advice is at all familiar with MechJeb. You want the "bi-impulse Hohmann transfer" in the older versions or the "two impulse Hohmann transfer" in 2.15. It plots an intercept from your current orbit to the targe in your current SOI: moon, ship, asteroid or whatever. With a moon, you need to adjust the plotted maneuver node to hit the Pe you want to avoid colliding with the moon.

Im on the old version 2.14, but the path to moon still looks like this?

whilst this tutorial shows this,

I'm not sure why you have two maneuver nodes on the way to the Mun. The second image is irrelevant. Not your game, not your situation.

Starting from a 80km alt I click Create node and get this:

#

Next I adjust the node a little -dV to Prograde to get this:
