How many Gigantor XL Solar Arrays are needed for 32 Dawn engines at Eeloo's Apoapsis?
Rtg are much more mass/electric Charge effifent at this distance
For a starship it really doesn't make sense but I'll consider it
Imagine the cost of RTGs over centuries
And the downtime to restore one that has been unused for a while
do you have some moddded power sources?
No
There is a reason I specified the solar panel as it is the largest I had
at eeloo one solar pannel gives you 0.41ec/s. one dawn need 8.74 ec/s. so you need 21.3 pannles for one dawn. for 32 dawn you need 683 pannels. one pannle has a mass of 0.3t. so you need around 205t of solar pannels.
BUT one rtg has a mass of 0.08t and a output of 0.75 ec/s so you only need 11.6 rtg per emgine, 373 in total, with a mass of 30t
Thanks for the info
Wait that is at Eeloo's apoapsis right?
at eeloo. all numbers are from the wiki
Eeloo has an elliptical orbit though, can you try to find out where in Eeloo's orbit that measurement is taken?
why bother with the ion engine going to Eeloo? can your mission be done with nervs instead
Actually might be a good idea
although my starship is designed to last, with NERVs although it'll need more fuel it can use any space station
instead of one with a dedicated xenon module (Which is a PITA)
Not a lander ship
It is like the starship from star trek
5k Δv
bring a mining lander to refuel it
That is a lot of work compared to my vision
A craft that can go to any body in the Kerbol system, dock to a station, drop off crew and cargo, refuel, grab new crew, and head off to some other location
