#Decouplers on engines not working
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Basically decouplers attached to engines don't work; the decoupled stage, although showing as a separate vessel, remains solidly attached to the vessel, with it's weight still affecting it
This has occurred repeatedly on all custom vessels I've made so far
So far it hasn't attached decouplers attached to other parts such as heat shields
Images of me deliberately spinning a ship and crashing it back through the atmosphere in an attempt to see if anything can break off a "decoupled" stage:
I had the same problem. I think its something to do with stages being mixed up mid flight
Yeah, I'm having issues with stuff not disconnecting properly so it thinks that discarded stages are still part of the ship
Same hat. Although the decouplers attached to some T-1 Darts inside a cargo bay seem to work correctly, so there's some cases where it works, maybe?
Confirmed the issue also extends to stack separators.
encountered a similar problem, botched what would have otherwise been a successful MUn landing
same
Yup, had the same issue.
reproduced on a TD-25 between a large adapter and an engine
the SMALL decoupler above that stack seemed to work fine though
Also getting this every time - you can get around it by going to map view, right clicking the other part and destroying it (assuming it's not meant to stick around after you detach)
Has anyone been having the issue where the camera just stays in place as the different parts of the craft float away from each other?
Had same issue.
Yes I'm having that issue too
lol
Good news! The vessels don't fly apart easily
Bad news! They don't fly apart when they're supposed to 😛
I found another workaround: stack 2 decouplers / separators in sequence, and put them in separate stages. After staging twice, most of the lower stage falls away. The stack separator was still attached to the engine, but that seems to just be cosmetic.
(oddly if you put both separators in one stage, it doesn't fix the problem)
I had this issue when I had the next stage engine in the same stage as the decoupler in question, moving the decoupler to its own stage fixed it for me.
Seems like jettisoning the engine fairing while it's still attached to other parts causes those parts to stick to the engine, if you have a multi-stage rocket sitting on the launch pad, you can jettison an upper stages fairings and see that the decoupler beneath will stick to it, if you then activate the decoupler, the decoupler will detach from the part beneath, while being stuck to the engine.
The workaround is to briefly time warp, this will break off the staged section
Physics time warp or the other type?
