I feel like this game might be too hard for me. I reached the final boss only twice. And now I keep dying over and over on the 10 minutes mark. I unlocked everything from the starting area, but if I start somewhere else I just die. Are there any tips for progression?

did you unlock the arms dealer in one of your games?
did you buy some augments?

Yes I did, I have been buying most of the ones I can, but they havent been that impactful so far. Whats the best gun for early game?

As far as best gun for early game, pistol is good for learning more of the augments (the bigger level ups that add a visual piece to your gun). Knowing what’s available can give you a sense of what synergies you want to try to build.

In terms of early meta progression killing power, before you have genes, the easiest chassis I think is the assault rifle. Its upsides (Rate of Fire and magazine size) are easy to build around and synergize with, and can cover for lower accuracy by just putting out more bullets per second. It’s downsides (lower reload speed and maybe too much rate of fire), don’t start being causing issues until later in the meta progression. There are a few players who say the shotgun was their breakthrough moment, or other chassis, but the vast majority of players I see have an easier time with assault rifle.

Once you have genes, it helps fill in some of the stats needed to bring other chassis into the comfy zone (at which point, several of the chassis have much more potential than assault rifle).

More than any particular build or gun though, it’s important to just kill the enemies and pick up the xp as fast as you can. If you are finding you are dying at the same time in the run, it often means that you and/or your drone are behind in xp compared to the monsters.

How many of the XP turrets do you know where they are? The ones that drop a shiny green orb that vaccuums/magnets up all the xp from the map. Planning a route to go from one to the next to another can help make sure you keep up on the XP.

The other thing is to make sure you always put your best gun on the drone table. The damage from that previously built gun is very impactful in allowing you to level up faster and build a better gun, which can then boost your next run and so on.
I’ve noticed this is one of those games where even if you’re pretty skilled, the journey from fresh new save file to beating the final boss for the first time does take a bit longer on average than other games in this genre. Learning the enemy types, the build options, the flow of when the toughest waves spawn (save underbarrel charges and/or character ability to help get through those), and where to find your options for xp magnets/ apple bushes/medkits is all part of the process. These in addition to the progress of your drone power and your genes.

It does get easier! I hope this wall of text is helpful in some way!

tl;dr
Try Assault Rifle. Focus XP Turrets. Build a progressively better drone.

Don't forget to upgrade your mutations. After you kill a bunch of enemies, you gain more slots for things like bonus health, increased crit, and so on. Be sure to slot those augments in and upgrade them to, over by the nurse bot.
