i am not sure if it was another bug, but upon contacting with the acid i lost my whole health bar in less than a second
but then after a few times of dying that way, it stopped killing instantly and instead gave a minute of nausea and poison

Maybe it’d be a good middle ground to implement a system where you temporarily lose access to your hearts, maybe the red hearts go green or have a little rotten indicator and you have that effect for 1-3 minutes depending on exposure. If you can get to a chemical wash station in time and bandage your wounds then your hearts will slowly return to a non rotten status
Chemical wash stations could be an integration with creates mechanical fan, you could wash yourself using them with either water in front or possibly a healing solution that you have to manufacture
