When they slow your character down, they are obnoxious. However, in some cases, I've found them able to completely immobilize your character--usually in the position of a gas vent sapping your oxygen. This makes them absolutely infuriating.
Moreover, situations such as these are the EXACT REASON why diving knives exist in the real world. So, please, allow us to cut ourselves free from these plants using diving knives, plasma cutters, or some other tool or weapon.
