Size: Slightly smaller than a hammerhead
Domain: Abyss
Aggro: Will not be hunted/pursued by other predators, when there are 3 of them.
Health: ~3000 each

Unlike other abyssal horrors that attack the submarine to get at the meaty humans inside, a Coven is more inclined to cause chaos internally, among the crew and systems, before digging in. They circle around the submarine, and their small size, speed, and black skin make them very good at hiding from the gaze of periscopes.

While they are hovering about, and there's 3 of them, they will gradually exert some form of mental pressure on an area, centered on a random crew member, called a Curse. Humans with Mindsense active are more likely to be targeted, while clowns are less likely to be targeted (and may have some resistance).

Curse
Without much warning, the crewmember will rapidly gain a large amount of psychosis, along with some random other negative effects (hallucinating, slow, drunk, alcohol sensitivity, blindness, radiation sickness, paralysis, and others). At the same time, electrical & mechanical devices & systems in a radius around them will instantly break down, and need to be fixed. Nearby plants may produce mutated fruit, and quickly explode, fires can break out. The hit of a curse may only last 1-2 seconds, but the after effects will remain.

Feeding
After a bit, the coven will target another crewmember, and curse them, all the same. After 3-4 curses, they will dive in, and start tearing at the hull, and eventually start snapping at the crew.
In direct contact, they can inflict husk a large amount of husk with a single bite. Theoretically, the Cronefish are hosts to the parasite, but retain some form of control over it, with their psychic abilities. If they take enough damage, they may retreat by burrowing out of the hull, and return to the cursing method.

#

If all 3 are still alive, and have collectively taken a lot of damage (perhaps 33%), their curses may be more frequent & aggressive, with bigger radii, and more negative effects, such as internal bleeding, and even hull ruptures.

@foggy mist @urban swan I have brewed up another horrible monster

foggy mist
#

All I will say is 3000 health is a lot for the creature

#

hammerheads have like 350 hp

#

watchers have 500

spiral rune
#

They are to be a boss fight, and cause chaos over time

urban swan
#

and there's 3 of them so 9000 hp in total

spiral rune
foggy mist
#

I will also say the effects are insane to me

foggy mist
spiral rune
#

They're like watchers, but worse

foggy mist
#

they dont need to be stronger to be worse

spiral rune
#

Mkay. Still want them to be beefy enough, that you can't oneshot them

#

Cuz once one of them is dead, they are significantly less dangerous

foggy mist
#

you can modify limbs

spiral rune
#

Possibly

foggy mist
#

since with the ragdolls barotrauma allows you to determine how much dmg they take which is why the watchers eye takes so much dmg but the rest of its body doesnt

spiral rune
#

If there's only 2 of them, the curse only does psychosis & nausea

#

If there's only 1, they can't curse

foggy mist
#

just make so it does the following, one applies the affliction but the more the quicker it worsens

spiral rune
#

In a way, the 3 cronefish themselves are like limbs

foggy mist
#

assuming they are targeting the same person

spiral rune
#

Yeah, they target the same person at a time

foggy mist
#

looking back at this creature, its just to overpowered

#

its not even fair to encounter either

#

it feels more like slap as many afflictions as possible per encounter even if the curse lasts two seconds thats over ten afflictions im dealing with

#

and its with emp damages

#

not only that you also have to worry about an abyssal creature attacking you with these as well assuming you have it as its own spawn without being on the abyssal creature roster
